Fantasy Football Week 4 Rankings - Quarterbacks

Are you ready for the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football quarterback rankings. As stated in our Week 3 Waiver Wire piece, by now you should have a good idea of what kind of fantasy football team you have. Similarly, you should also be aware of what your quarterback situation will look like for the rest of the season and if you own guys like Derek Anderson, Marc Bulger and David Garrard then you’re likely ready to write the season off. There is no need to panic yet. There are still good quarterbacks available in free agency and as you acquire these new players, we want to help you determine which ones have the most value on a week-to-week basis.

So, here are the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 4 Quarterback Rankings for you to digest. Keep in mind that with six teams on bye weeks instead of the normal four, you might need to dig a bit deeper to find your quarterback and make sure you hit your leagues waiver wire.

--------------------

1. Jay Cutler (Denver Broncos) at Kansas City

Cutler had no problem lighting up a so-called revamped defense last week against the Saints as he went 21-of-34 for 264 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Once again he found Brandon Marshall early and often. When it was all said in done, Marshall finished with six receptions for 155 receiving yards and one touchdown.Plus, with Kansas City being one of the worst defenses in the NFL it should be a field day for the rising star. The Chiefs allowed rookie Matt Ryan to go for 192 yards and a touchdown while completing 66.6 percent of his passes.
Point Projection: 25 points

--------------------

2. Tony Romo (Dallas Cowboys) vs. Washington

The schedule has been difficult so far for the Cowboys but it hasn’t seemed to affect Romo at all. The guy has thrown five touchdowns against just three interceptions in games against Green Bay, Cleveland (not so dificult) and Philadelphia. The Redskins defense is solid but the secondary isn’t perfect, plus they are nursing injuries to safety Kareem Moore, defensive end Jason Taylor and linebacker Marcus Washington. That, along with the fact that it appears Romo continues to somehow improve as a quarterback means another good week.
Point Projection: 22 points

--------------------

3. Donovan McNabb (Philadelphia Eagles) at Chicago

As if dealing without receivers Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis weren’t bad enough, now chronically injured running back Brian Westbrook is hobbling on a sore ankle. Head coach Andy Reid has said that Westbrook will likely play against the Bears, but it’s never a good sign when he’s banged up. Regardless, McNabb has proven he can get it done with backups like Correll Buckhalter and Hank Baskett. It’s also worth mentioning that the Bears defense ranks 28th in the league in pass defense. Plan accordingly.
Point Projection: 20 points

--------------------

4. Philip Rivers (San Diego Chargers) at Oakland

Perhaps he was flying under the radar a bit because he didn’t have a cannon of an arm like Brett Favre or Tom Brady and he wasn’t putting up ridiculous numbers like Brees. But six touchdowns against just one interception in his first two games speaks much to the capability of Rivers, not to mention the three touchdown passes against the Jets. He’s an extremely accurate passer who is now being asked to do more as running back LaDainian Tomlinson continues to nurse injures. Having Rivers pass more may not be such a bad thing against Oakland as the Raiders rank 26th in pass defense and 24th in points allowed this season.
Point Projection: 19 points

--------------------

5. Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) vs. San Francisco

Cutler’s counterpart on Sunday also played well as he went 39-of-48 for 421 yards and a touchdown. It’s clear that even without injured receiver Marques Colston that Brees can and will play at a high level. However, with tight end Jeremy Shockey needing sports hernia surgery Brees will be forced to throw to second fiddle receivers all afternoon. San Fracisco’s defense has been much improved this season though it’s likely nobody has noticed. The 49ers pass defense actually ranks seventh in the league after three games so don’t expect Brees to come out and get you 30+ points. However, the Saints offense can do things that the others San Fracisco has played can’t. Brees shouldn’t have much of a problem exceeding his 15.3 point per game average in this contest.
Point Projection: 19 points

--------------------

6.  Carson Palmer (Cincinnati Bengals) vs. Cleveland

It appears that Palmer and the Bengals offense is finally on track after a solid performance in a losing effort to the Giants. In that game Palmer was 27-of-39 for 286 yards and one touchdown while he helped put together multiple drives for Cincinnati, mostly without the help of Mr. Ocho Cinco. He also got on track with receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh signaling that all is right with the passing game in Cincinnati, finally. This week against Browns you can expect the positive trends for the Bengals offense to continue. The Browns haven’t been able to stop anybody yet and have a secondary full of “who’s that?” guys.
Point Projection: 18 points

--------------------

7. Kurt Warner (Arizona Cardinals) at New York Jets

Despite a costly interception, Warner looked good during the Cardinals loss to the Washington Redskins in week three. He’s passed for six touchdowns in the three games so far, but perhaps the best thing to see is that he is taking better care of the ball this year as he has just one turnover. The Jets pass defense was stubborn in their first two games, but in week three they allowed 48 points to the San Diego Chargers. Look for Warner and company to throw early and often in this game.
Point Projection: 18 points

--------------------

8. Trent Edwards (Buffalo Bills) at St. Louis

Going with Edwards as the starter instead of incumbent and former first round draft pick J.P. Losman is paying dividends for the Bills and their 3-0 start. Three touchdowns and just one interception in the first three games for Edwards are nice, but it’s good to see that he is averaging 7.8 yards per attempt. It shows that the team is letting him be free in the offense instead of trying to hide a new starter. That also means you can expect his good play to continue, which is a good thing because the Bills take on the hapless Rams this week. There isn’t much doubt around the Bruno Boys offices that one of us could throw a touchdown pass against St. Louis.
Point Projection: 17 points

--------------------

9. Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) at Tampa Bay

In his first test against a good defense in the season-opener against Minnesota, Rodgers shone. His second test, against Dallas in week three, he was solid but didn’t crack the goal line on the ground or in the air. In the loss to the Cowboys, Rodgers was 22-of-39 for 290 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. It was the least efficient he’s been all season and yet he still managed a quarterback rating of 80.1. Rodgers has another difficult test this weekend against Tampa Bay and it’s unlikely he go consecutive games without throwing a touchdown pass. However, he’s going to throw his first interception of the season sooner and later and it’s good bet it happens against a tough Buccaneer defense.
Point Projection: 16 points

--------------------

10. J.T. O’Sullivan (San Francisco 49ers) at New Orleans

O’Sullivan and the 49ers offense are starting to pick up some steam. Week one was rough but since then he’s thrown three touchdowns against no interceptions in two wins. He’s averaging an incredible 9.4 yards per attempt and is completing 66.6 percent of his passes. Perhaps the most telling stat is that he’s increased his quarterback rating but almost 20 points each game. The Saints did a lot of work on their defense in the offseason but so far the results haven’t been there. Thus, O’Sullivan should enjoy another good week.
Point Projection: 16 points

--------------------

11. Jason Campbell (Washington Redskins) at Dallas

After the first week of the season, the Redskins looked like a huge mess and many questioned whether Campbell was the right guy to run new head coach Jim Zorn’s West Coast offense. Campbell came strong the last two weeks to the tune of three touchdowns and 514 passing yards with no interceptions in two wins for Washington. He still hasn’t thrown an interception and his quarterback rating has continued to trend upward. Dallas has a nice defense but the Cowboys rank 20th in pass defense and 17th in points allowed so it could be a third straight solid week for Campbell, even if it’s in a losing effort.
Point Projection: 15 points

--------------------

12. Brett Favre (New York Jets) vs. Arizona

Favre is still getting acclimated with the Jets playbook. You can tell from watching the Jets that the timing still isn’t there for Favre, who has missed receivers early and late. With those timing issues along, with being unfamiliar with the playbook means that there will be more potential turnovers for a guy like Favre. It may be a while before we see the Favre of old return to form as a Jet but against a Cardinals defense that is inconsistent in pass defense, he could get in the end zone a few times.
Point Projection: 15 points

--------------------

13. Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh Steelers) vs. Baltimore

Roethlisberger proved last year he can be an elite quarterback, if only the team would let him. The Steelers are running the ball more than ever this year as Big Ben has totaled just 59 pass attempts in three games. By contrast, Brees almost equaled that number in one game. Further hurting Roethlisberger’s value is apparent hand injury he suffered to his throwing hand when it was drilled by a helmet on one of many times he was hit in the loss to the Eagles. Going against a tough defense like Baltimore this week certainly won’t be the remedy for Roethlisberger and his owners.
Point Projection: 14 points

--------------------

14. Kerry Collins (Tennessee Titans) vs. Minnesota

Make no mistake about it, even with Collins in the game, the Titans are still a run-first team behind running backs LenDale White and Chris Johnson. Part of the reason he is so high on this list is because of the quarterbacks that are on byes this week. But he’s also here in part because he has played well in his two starts this season throwing two touchdowns and one interception while completing 60 percent of his passes. Minnesota’s run defense is great but the pass defense is vulnerable and if Tennessee is to win this game, they will need to use the arm of Collins.
Point Projection: 13 points

--------------------

15. David Garrard (Jacksonville Jaguars) vs. Houston

It’s been a bit of a struggle so far for Garrard and the Jaguars and it’s clear that missing the majority of the starters on the offensive line is a major reason behind the troubles. Still, better times may lie ahead as the Jaguars managed to pull out a come-from-behind win against the Colts in Indianapolis in week three. Garrard’s completion percentage (72.7) and his yards per attempt (7.6) were both good signs that the quarterback and offense may be turning things around. It also helps that the team gets to play at home this week against the Texans, who rank 30th in points allowed.
Point Projection: 13 points

--------------------

16. Jake Delhomme (Carolina Panthers) vs. Atlanta

It just might be time to start panicking about Delhomme if you were one of the people that picked him high thinking the elbow surgery would get him back to his old self. Delhomme’s thrown just one touchdown so far and is average a lousy 6.2 yards pet pass attempt. To his benefit, the Panthers had to play against three tough defenses to start the season and get to play at home this week against a Falcons defense that looked good against the two bad teams it played and horrible against the one good team it played.
Point Projection: 12 points

--------------------

17. Brian Griese (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) vs. Green Bay

Griese accumulated a lot of fantasy points last week because he threw two touchdowns and 407 yards. However, he did so on a whopping 67 attempts and added three interceptions. In the two games he’s started Griese has averaged a meager 5.8 yards per attempt and that number could go even lower this week against a good Green Bay defense. As long as Griese is throwing touchdowns he has some value but this week may not be the best to start him.
Point Projection: 10 points

--------------------

18. Derek Anderson (Cleveland Browns) at Cincinnati

Call it Murphy’s Law in Cleveland. So far, everything that could go wrong has gone wrong and it’s been bad enough that head coach Romeo Crennel said backup Brady Quinn would get some work in practice with the thought that he may play some against the Bengals on Sunday. How bad is it? Well, in the last two games Anderson has thrown one touchdown and five interceptions while completing just 46.3 percent of his passes. However, if there is one team worth playing him against, unless you have better options that is, it would be the Bengals.
Point Projection: 10 points

--------------------

19. Kyle Orton (Chicago Bears) vs. Philadelphia

The Bearded Helmet himself may not be that bad of a quarterback after all. After going two weeks without a touchdown or interception, Orton was 22-of-34 with two touchdowns and two interceptions in a loss to Tampa Bay. More impressive was that he completed 64 percent of his passes in that game and had a good 7.9 yards per attempt. Still, it’s unlikely Orton will be the quarterback to crack the Philadelphia defense.
Point Projection: 9 points

--------------------

20. Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons) at Carolina

Give Ryan some credit for being able to play well against bad defenses in Detroit and Kansas City. Both of those games ended with Ryan owning a high completion percentage along with a touchdown and no interceptions. The one elite defense he faced, Tampa Bay, shut him down to the tune of two interceptions and a 39.3 completion percentage. Right now, it appears Carolina is somewhere in between an elite and bad defense, but leaning closer to the former so don’t expect much from Ryan this week.
Point Projection: 9 points

--------------------

21. Trent Green (St. Louis Rams) vs. Buffalo

Not much has gone right for Bulger and the Rams this season and because of this Bulger is being replaced by Trent Green in week four.  Even with Green under center, it doesn’t appear that will change this week when St. Louis plays the undefeated Bills. Buffalo ranks fifth in pass defense and sixth in points allowed so don’t expect the veteran Green to flashback to the 2002-2004 seasons (77 touchdowns during three year span.)
Point Projection: 9 points

--------------------

22. Gus Frerotte (Minnesota Vikings) at Tennessee

Frerotte was alright in his first start this season as he led the Vikings to a come-from-behind win over the Panthers. In that game Frerotte passed for 204 yards with one touchdown and one interception with a respectable 7.3 yards per attempt. It’s too bad that he’ll have to face the Titans this week. Last week against the Texans, the Tennessee defense record three sacks, three interceptions, one of which went for a touchdown, and a forced fumble.
Point Projection: 8 points

--------------------

23. JaMarcus Russell (Oakland Raiders) vs. San Diego

The few times Russell has been allowed to throw the ball, he hasn’t looked completely helpless, as he’s got three touchdowns but no interceptions on the year. Still, he’s checking in with a completion percentage of 50 and is averaging 6.3 yards per attempt despite playing against two bad defenses. San Diego won’t make things any easier on him so it’s probably not a good week to play Russell, as his only fantasy points come on a bomb to Johnny Lee Higgins in week three.
Point Projection: 8 points

--------------------

24. Matt Schaub (Houston Texans) at Jacksonville

It’s almost shocking how bad of a season Schaub and the Texans are having so far. Schaub has thrown five interceptions and just one touchdown in two games this season. Both games were against good defenses on the road and we’ve got a similar scenario this week as Houston travels to Jacksonville. A few more bad games and it might be time for the Texans to roll with Sage Rosenfels and consider Schaub a bust.
Point Projection: 7 points

--------------------

25. Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens) at Pittsburgh

So the Ravens are 2-0 with the rookie as their starting quarterback. Raise your hand if predicted that happening. Flacco has looked solid so far despite his numbers indicating otherwise. Soon he will get his first passing touchdown but he may have to wait another week on that happening as Baltimore travels to Pittsburgh this week. No offense to the Bengals or Browns, but the Pittsburgh defense is going to be like nothing Flacco has ever seen before.
Point Projection: 7 points

--------------------

26. Tyler Thigpen (Kansas City Chiefs) vs. Denver

The only reason Thigpen should be in your starting lineup is if somebody hacked the password to your team and put him in there as some kind of sick joke. Thigpen was 14-of-36 for 128 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions last week against the Falcons and most of his completions and yardage came when the game was out of hand. Stay away from Thigpen at all costs, even if the Broncos can't defend against the pass. Plus, the Chiefs are toying with the idea of going back to Damon Huard in week four.
Point Projection: 5 points

--------------------

WEEK 4 BYE WEEK QUARTERBACKS

Eli Manning (New York Giants) - BYE

So far, so good for Manning and the Giants. The Giants are playing so well that they are probably wishing their bye week didn't come this early.

--------------------

Matt Hasselbeck (Seattle Seahawks) - BYE

Hasselbeck finally had a decent game in week three against the Rams,  but a bye week for this team was just what the doctor ordered.

--------------------

Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts) - BYE

Questions on the offensive line and the lack of playing time in the preseason have hurt Manning much more than originally anticipated. Look for Manning to come back strong after the bye.

--------------------

Chad Pennington (Miami Dolphins) - BYE

Pennington attempted 20 passes against the Patriots, but likely could’ve attempted zero and still helped the Dolphins win that game. An early bye week will help this veteran get better acquainted with his new playbook.

--------------------

Jon Kitna (Detroit Lions) -  BYE

So far, Kitna has an equal number of touchdowns as interceptions. Sounds about right. Plus, the sprained knee injury could keep him out of action after the bye week.

--------------------

Matt Cassel (New England Patriots) - BYE

No matter how much his teammates and coaches say otherwise, the Patriots offense is clearly different, and worse, with Cassel in the lineup.
