Ty Zeller Commits To North Carolina

The Tar Heels sure love those players named Ty. They nabbed Ty-ler Hansbrough in for 2005 and Ty-won Lawson in 2006. For 2008, they have gained a commitment from Ty-ler Zeller.

Zeller, who is the 16th ranked prospect on Scout.com, committed to the Heels on Monday, most likely making him Hansbrough's heir apparent. Zeller joins Ed Davis and Larry Drew as Heels' 2008 class and he's excited to be a Tar Heel:

"North Carolina was the best fit for me," Zeller said at his press conference at the Washington Ponderosa. "I felt more comfortable with the Carolina staff and players than any of the other schools."

Distance from home was long considered a hot topic for the five-star big man but he down played the issue at the press conference. "Distance doesn't really matter because once you're there, you're there," Zeller said. "I wanted to make my own footsteps. This should be fun."

Zeller is an Indiana native and was considering Indiana, Purdue and Notre Dame as well as UNC. A couple of other Indiana centers did pretty well in Chapel Hill. Eric Montross spurned the Hoosier State in 1990 and won a National Championship in 1993. Sean May also spurned Indiana (his dad's alma mater) for UNC in 2002 and won a National Championship in 2005.
