This week, I learned that...
* Seth Petruzelli managed to take a cinderella story and turn it into an ugly mess. That said, he doesn't deserve any of the blame for this. The guy was thrust into the spotlight and was probably not briefed on which secrets to hide from the media. Oh, and if his initial comments were in fact true then his impact on this sport may turn out to be a lot more powerful than one weak jab. And for that we should ultimately be thankful.
* The damage done by this "standup" story was and will continue to be more damaging than ten Kimbo Slice losses. Just when EliteXC thought things couldn't get any worse...
* Despite the crazy rumors, this will not prove to be the end of EliteXC or even MMA. Boxing has been through this before and come the next big fight (ShoXC anyone?) everyone will move on.
* EliteXC has done a poor job of defending itself this week. When there was smack to talk about KJ Noons, $kala was heard all over the place (including this website). But I wonder why he has been so quite all of a sudden (we've reached out to him on several occassions, by the way)?
* Some people don't know what "fixing a fight" means. Even if they did sweeten Petruzelli's pot to stand and trade with Slice, that doesn't mean they fixed the fight or attempted to.
* The mainstream media has begun comparing MMA to boxing...and not in a good way. Yesterday, I heard
PTI's Michael Wilbon proclaim that at least a handful of times that the sport we love is as corrupt as "the sweet science." Perhaps he is right, and maybe this will prove to be a positive for the sport, but, for now, it kinda sucks.
* Arianny Celeste looks good on the cover of
Status Fitness Magazine, however, is it me or does something seem a tad off with that cover photo?
* Joe Son Do deserves a
life full of nut shots.
* Accusing someone of being biased or unethical without even knowing them is pretty low. But when you stop and consider the source...
