For comments made against the officiating crew that called the Texas Tech/Texas game this past Saturday, Texas Tech coach Mike Leach has been fined $10,000, the largest fine ever from the Big 12 conference. Apparently, they don’t appreciate a good referee bashing in Texas anymore than David Stern does… although, the fines are substantially less.

“Coach Leach’s public statements called into question the integrity and competence of game officials and the conference’s officiating program,” Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe said in a statement. “Accordingly the seriousness of this violation warrants a public reprimand and the largest fine issued to date by the conference.”

In case you forgot, here’s the video of Leach’s tirade:

I know I’m not the only person who heard about “Texas Tech coach fined for ripping refs” and thought of Bobby Knight first. He must be giving tutoring sessions to the other Red Raider coaches.
