We are over a quarter of the way through the season, and this week, I will be doing something a little bit different. First, I will highlight some goalies to grab – these are the players who other managers in your fantasy league may be willing to deal away for less than their actual value. Then, I plan on making some pretty insane predictions that, if my expertise proves correct, it will be somewhat of a miracle.
GOALIES TO GRAB
Mikka Kiprusoff, Calgary - Kiprusoff is having his semi-standard slow start and may be primed for the stealing from an overly anxious fantasy owner. Look for his 2.96 GAA and .885 SV% to get back in line sooner rather than later.
Vesa Toskala, Toronto - Craziness, you say? Patience, my friends. Toskala will bring his numbers around… just you wait. The Leafs are playing way below their talent level and the only place Toskala’s numbers can go is up. Now is the time to grab him for a bargain-basement price.
Peter Budaj, Colorado - He has not lived up to how he finished in the ’06-’07 season, but we all saw the talent last year. In fact, the way the season has played out thus far is almost identical to last season. G Jose Theodore poached some starts early and played relatively decent, but in the end, Budaj came in and was virtually unstoppable the last half of the season.
RIDICULOUS PREDICTIONS
G Marc-Andre Fleury will be traded to the Atlanta Thrashers for G Kari Lehtonen.
The Thrashers will be more than happy to part with Lehtonen’s wonky groin, and the Penguins will take a chance on his raw talent knowing that G Dany Sabourin can step in if need be.
G Andrew Raycroft will be traded to the Detroit Red Wings for C Jiri Hudler.
The Wings are really deep upfront and Hasek’s injury troubles will force Detroit to look for a possible replacement. The Wings have a way of transforming average goaltenders into standout talents.
G Manny Fernandez will be traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning along with RW Glen Murray for C Brad Richards.
The Lightning will make a play for another goaltender who may or may not be passed his expiry date, as well as grabbing a veteran presence to hopefully provide some supplementary scoring behind C Vincent Lecavalier and RW Martin St. Louis.
