The death of Redskins safety Sean Taylor has, as one would expect, elicited a wide variety of reactions from his teammates. Peter King of SI.com reports that one teammate, tackle Chris Samuels, is reacting by buying a gun.It is sad."I was always scared of guns growing up,'' Samuels said. "But this situation has told me I need one. I'd rather be prepared than to be like Sean was, and not have a gun in his house when he really needed it. I'm going to go through all the proper procedures, get a license, get training for it, and have it in my house, where I lay my head at night.
"I wish a lot of people thought like I did, that violence is bad. But unfortunately that's not the way the world is. Sometimes the world is not a nice place. It's sad I have to get a gun.''

This is the kind of "attitude" that is creating a huge problem in this country. And it's great that he tells the entire world that he's "buying a gun" because now if an intruder decides to break into his house the intruder is prepared.
This kind of thinking confuses me, this is why we have a gun epidemic in this country.

There is nothing wrong with having a gun to protect yourself. I would have a security system too. I wouldn't run around town carrying a gun but in your home is understandable. Don't forget that many people were killed in New Orleans because the police took their guns and they had no self defense.

Check your stats fellas - in states where you can legally carried concealed firearms there is less crime. See the idea is that criminals are scared of the fact that someone else maybe carrying LEGALLY and not feel so empowered by carrying their STOLEN handguns. Where guns are outlawed only outlaws have guns.

Yes, but where does it all end? You forget that these "homes" that have guns also have "children" and other family members living in them who may or may not be that responsible. I hope you remember that many deaths are also caused by unstable family members who happen to have easy access to a firearm. And with the population growing as it is the number of "loose cannons" will also grow.
