Liverpool, Schalke 04, Real Madrid advanced

With a 4-0 victory at Marseille on Tuesday, Liverpool advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League this year. Tied with Marseille with 7 points, Liverpool came into the game agressively. Steven Gerrard followed his penaty miss in the 4th minute. Seven minutes later, Spain striker Fernando Torres doubled the score with his solo. Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel wrapped up the group stage with 2 more goals. Porto tops the table with 11 points, one point a head of Liverpool, after a 1-0 victory over Besiktas.

Schalke 04 came into the last game of the group stage with 2 points behind Rosenborg, but they managed to score 3 goals against the Norwegian club. 3-1 was the score for the game. Chelsea tied with Valencia, but it is enough to keep them on top of the standing table.
Group C was more competitive when four teams have a chance to advance to the next round. Real Madrid played against Lazio at home. Julio Baptista wrote his name on the score sheet in the 12th minute.
