« Sheffield And The Mets | Main | Mariners Backing Off On Matsuzaka? »

10 Moves I'd Make

I heard that Buster Olney was going to do a column with this topic soon.  Before I read his here's my two cents.

1. Padres: Sign Akinori Iwamura for third base.  The Phils would be a fine fit as well.  Japan produced bargains like Kenji Johjima and Takashi Saito last year; Iwamura should come at a reasonable salary as he's something of an unknown.  He'll play good defense and could even spell Khalil Greene at shortstop if needed.  I'd give him $7-8MM annually.

2. Cardinals: Trade Chris Duncan to the Cardinals for Mike Gonzalez.  Both clubs need to capitalize on fine seasons by these two players, and each could fill a need.  Duncan is a natural first baseman, and the Pirates have a glaring need for a cheap power hitter who can draw some walks.  The Cards have a void at the back end of their bullpen with Adam Wainwright moving to the rotation.

3. White Sox: Trade Freddy Garcia to the Diamondbacks for Scott Hairston and Juan Cruz.  Now don't yell at me Sox fans, it's more of a general idea than the exact trade.  If Garcia is worth more then I'm sure Kenny will extract that.  But in Hairston and Cruz, the Sox would have their left fielder and a nasty bullpen arm for Don Cooper to work with.  At the least, these two clubs get along so perhaps they can help each other.

4. Devil Rays: Keep Elijah Dukes.  To me, a guy needs a change of scenery when he's not playing up to his talent.  Dukes posted a .400 OBP as a 22 year-old in Triple A.  He could be a great option at first base in the near future for Tampa Bay.  The D-Rays should find a way to make it work instead of trading him for fifty cents on the dollar.

5.  Cubs: Trade Bob Howry and Jacque Jones to the Yankees for Gary Sheffield.  Is this lopsided towards the Cubs?  Probably.  Feel free to tweak it so as not to outrage Yankee fans.  But if the Cubs could move one or two of their expensive but effective relievers and rid themselves of Jones, it'd be a great deal for them.  I would also sign Gary Matthews Jr. to play center to balance out Sheff's defense.

6. Tigers: Sign Barry Bonds.  This is stolen directly from Nate Silver.  What can I say?  I'm on that bandwagon.  Bonds is exactly what Detroit needs.

7.  Astros: Sign Jose Guillen for right field.  Coming off an injury, Guillen could be a bargain.  His defense paired with Willy Taveras in center could be an excellent combo.  With Luke Scott in left I think they'd have a solid outfield.

8. Rangers: Trade Mike Young to the Orioles for Erik Bedard.  OK, I just pulled this deal out of my ass.  But in Bedard the Rangers get a 28 year-old who keeps the ball in the yard and has three years until free agency.  Young, while a great player, is poor defensively and will be 30 next year.  He has two more seasons under contract at a very reasonable price.  This trade is contingent on #9...

9. Orioles: Trade Miguel Tejada for Jeremy Bonderman.  If the Tigers are really shopping Bonderman, you just can't pass this up.  Bonderman replaces Bedard in the rotation and becomes the ace; Mike Young moves in at short.  I think Orioles fans would be excited with these moves (I could be wrong though).  The Tigers would then move Carlos Guillen to first base and add an impact hitter in Tejada.  Would Bonds and Tejada be great for clubhouse chemistry?  No.  But that could be a very solid all-around club.

10. Mets: Sign Barry Zito.  The Mets need some stability here with Pedro out, Glavine and El Duque in question, and mostly question marks rounded out the rest of the rotation.  I see the Yanks getting Matsuzaka, so Zito is the best long-term bet for a starter.

Go ahead, have your say in the comments.  Remember that this is all in good fun and these are just ideas I cooked up.  You'll notice I left out all sorts of good stuff like the Red Sox and Alfonso Soriano.  Have at it!

I like the idea of Bonds fitting well with the Tigers. Unfortunately my respect for that team would have to be greatly reduced if they did pick up that prick.

Also, just a question:

Is the Tigers rotation that deep that they could be looking to ship Bonderman out? Or is it just that Nate Robertson wouldn't be sufficient trade bait for the needs they have to fill?

The tigers do have Humberto Sanchez and Andrew Miller waiting in the wings to start as well as back of the rotation options like Tata. If I was the Tigers I would just offer Bonderman to the Rangers straight up for Teixeira. I would also want Tex if I was the orioles.

Also I dont think the Yankees would want Jacque Jones. They already have too many outfielders, unless they already had a deal in place to move Jones to someone else I doubt that deal would happen. I could see the Yankees though willing to eat a lot of Priors contract. Just a thought

pat burrell is a move that needs to be made, not sure for who though

I am a Cardinals fan... I'd do the Duncan for Gonzalez trade in a heartbeat, but I doubt Pittsburgh would even touch that offer.

I would like to see the Cubs make a play for Bonderman. I am not sure what it would take, but I think it might take a good bat. The only consistent bat is D-Lee and he is the only untouchable player. I can only dream about a Rotation of Zambrano, Bonderman, Hill, a healthy Prior, and whoever they get as a 5th starter. Any ideas on who the Cubs would need to offer to get Bonderman?

Regarding your Mike Young remark..

I've watched him day in day out for several years now, and I do not understand this "poor defensively". I just do not understand it. I have come to the conclusion that people who say things like that have not watched him enough to have an informed decision on the matter. That issue aside..

Mike Young straight up for Eric Bedard? Uh, no. If I'm moving Young (which for the love of God I hope does not happen), then it better be for SEVERAL players, not just one. And one of them had better be Bedard.

I'm a fan of mlbtraderumours, but not of this story. Ugh.

Roto, with Pence on his way up and Scott and Taveras entrenched Guillen makes all the sense in the world... BUT, it will never happen.

The Astros did a similar thing last year in signing Preston Wilson; it was a disaster and kept Scott off the field. There's absolutely no way the Astros take on another injury prone reclamation project. They'll throw big bucks at somebody or trade for a big name outfielder like Sheffield.

Having been burned with the Wilson acquisition and seeing Scott develop, I just don't see them doing the same thing to block their best position prospect.

Jose Guillen is a fine player though.

In all seriousness...do u think the Pirates would touch that trade with a 7 foot, yeti walking cane? Duncan's value is mediocre as teams realize he fields like a totem pole. I absolutely love Mike Gonzalez and consider him a top 6 closer in the NL. What could we package with Duncan to lure the Pirates?? Perhaps Kinney + Duncan, or Flores might be expendable.

I am definitely no defensive expert; I am basing this on The Fielding Bible which ranked him near the bottom and used much more than just observation. I value your opinion as a Rangers fan but these are the expert fielding evaluators. We will have to respectfully disagree.

I can observe Young with my eyes all year long, but that still doesn't make me more qualified to evaluate his defense than the guys who wrote the Fielding Bible. Who found it laughable? Other defensive experts or just biased Ranger fans?

I'm also a fan of mlbtraderumors, and not of this stroy, as is Joe Siegler. Michael Young for Eric Bedard? People who are not fans of the Rangers don't seem to understand that Young is the leader and heart of this team. You build a team around Michael Young, not Eric Bedard. That's the difference.

Yes but to defend mlbtraderumor....Don't the Rangers have Derosa and Kinsler who could fill Young's role? The Rangers could seriously use another quality starting pitcher..Millwood/Bedard/Padilla/Eaton would be a solid. The Rangers have had great hitting lineups in the past but it hasnt gotten them anywhere. What they need is pitching. If they can resign Lee than Young should be tradable.

The Tigers would be fools to trade Bonderman, even for Tejada. The only way the Cubs could get Bonderman is if they gave up Zambrano. Bonderman isn't going anywhere.

Maybe it's for Torres then. General idea is that the Pirates gotta maximize value for one of those relievers and get a young slugger back.

I think the Red Sox should Sign Soriano If you put him in Right a Ortiz Manny Soriano Line up would help a great deal they would still need some healthy pitching but it might free up a move like Manny for pitching.

A-Rod and a little salary help for Bonderman and Inge. Who blinks?

The Padres aren't going to do something that makes as much sense as signing a good third baseman. They are going to claim that Russell Branyan is the answer. Branyan had good numbers after coming over but that was only for part of the season. After guys figure out that he can't hit off-speed, he'll be putting up Vinny Castilla (post Colorado hey-day) numbers in no time. Then they'll wish they signed Iwamura.
Although I do like what they're doing, dropping Piazza and getting some fresh blood at manager. Maybe it's a sign of bigger changes. We'll see. One more dissappointing season and Towers has got to go. I'm serious.

2 things on Dukes quickly

1. I agree it is never good to get a dime on a dollar for talent or even 50 cents on it. But if it doesnt work out they would get nothing at all. They do need lefty bats in that lineup badly.

2. Isnt Guzman projected as their future 1B for the long term? He is a better talent then Dukes even if that is true.

Either way they have so many top prospects if 1/2 of them work out as projected they will win the AL East in the future

In the end the sox need a power bat, Dun ,Aram, Soriano, Lee, and if they trade manny, two power bats may be needed, I dont know how i feel about lugo at short, he would be over paid but maybe the time as a dodger hurt his value, but its a better bat then gonzo, but gonzo is a cheap d fence wiz, maybe trade for young? i wonder how good of a bat can you get for lester would you think? i wouldnt really want to see lester traded though but the sox are in need of a number 5 hitter, that way ortiz has something behind him if manny went down.

and now a complete 360 Konerko would never be traded, but are there any right handed bats like him who can play first.
1.damon cf
2.jeter ss
3. b abrue(bad speller)rf
4. power hitting first baseman
5.giambi dh
6.Arod 3b
7.matsui lf
8.cano 2b
9.posada c

Arod may fit in 4th but i dought many yankee fans want to see him there with his struggles, but hes great production for a number 6 hitter MAybe sheff can be convinced to play first, but i dont know how great of a D or club house cancer that would be?

just a few ideas

I am a really big fan of this site, but I see a lot of holes in this article. The only ones I see realistic are 4,6,7,9 and 10. The others I just don't see happening. The Pads may go after Iwamura, but since they picked Branyan's option this seems a little doubtful. They also have to fill a void out in leftfield. Duncan for Mike Gonzalez? That would be a great deal for the Cards, but the Pirates would have to be insane to do that. The Cards would probably also have to give up somebody like Reyes along with it for Gonzalez, especially with Mike's value so high right now. Freddy Garcia for Scott Hairston and Cruz? Hairston is not the kind of leftfielder the Sox are going to be looking for in exchange of Garcia. The Cub deal is way to lopsided and I don't think even the Yankees would be paying Jones all that $$ to be a backup with Cabrera on the roster too. Also Young for Bedard would be a travisty to the Rangers. Young is the heart and sole of the team and if things are prospected to go the way they are with Tex, Blalock and Young on the block, who's gonna be left to hit?? The other five, seem completely fine and the Mets getting Zito seems most probable.

One player I would love the Tigers to go after is Catalanno - left handed stick that won't strike out and will get on base - some of the traits that Bonds offers - but you are trading off major power, but getting no headaches. Not to mention the $$ difference, that money can be used for another free agent
I wonder if Texas would consider Humberto Sanchez plus a bit more for Texeira instead of Bonderman.
Bonderman now has that big game experience that a Sanchez, or Miller or other young pitcher won't have ... and that would be big in September/October next year.

Kenny Williams, make it happen:

The White Sox should sign ARam for 3B and Roberts for LF.

Then trade Crede, Garcia or Buehrle and a prospect to the Yankee's for ARod to play SS.

1. Roberts - LF
2. ARod - SS
3. Thome - DH
4. Dye - RF
5. Konerko - 1B
6. ARam - 3B
7. Pierzynski - C (RHP) / Iguchi - 2B (LHP)
8. Iguchi - 2B (RHP) / Pierzynski - C (LHP)
9. Anderson - CF

No. 11 Toronto sends Vernon Welles to Cubs for Donald Veal and Jacque Jones. Toronto gets the big name minor league starter and cheaper bat, and the Cubs get the Center fielder they need.

The cards getting rid of a left handed power bat even if he is detrimental to the outfield doesn't seem like a wise move when Edmonds is possibly the only other lefty in the line up. Duncan for Gonzales doesn't seem to benefit the team too much with wainwright having strong outings and able to close games next year instead of starting, if needed.
I know Gonzo is going to be much more valuable a player, I'm just not sure it would help the team much.

Revolution 99 - there are 2 Sox teams in baseball, please clarify in your posts.

That said, the White Sox should trade either Buehrle and Uribe to STL for Reyes & Eckstein +, or possibly Garcia, Uribe and Dye to BAL for Tejada and Mota.

I still think Podsednik could be with the Sox next year, but they need to get a second option for that position. Podsednik could be re-upped at around $2M and if Roberts could be signed from $2-3.5M I say have them battle it out in the spring and the loser is either the bench outfielder or possibly moves to CF.

The Astros are going to be big players for Carlos Lee. The big question mark for them is starting pitching since they have no idea if Pettitte or Clemens are interested in coming back to Houston in 07.

Olney seems to think very little of Sheff's trade value. From the Cubs he was talking Mike Wuertz (and Mabry, which doesn't make sense because he is a FA). From the Phils he was saying Madson.

So I think Howry/Jones would be sufficient.

It would be stupid for the Tigers to send Bonderman out. If the rotation is really that deep shouldn't they be saving that for when the camera punching man with the magic dirt retires.

revolution99... Jon Lester is currently undergoing cancer treatment. Under such sensitive matters, him being pawned off to the highest bidder is just plain wrong.

Would the Yanks trade Matsui move the girly arm to LF, call up Brett Gardner and trade for a Teixiera?

i was talking about the Red sox, if manny cant be trusted to play an entire season which i think is safe to say he cant, they have NO one to be hind ortiz, lowell pena youk, none of these guys are 4 hitters, i have my questions with them even being 5 hitters Dun would make it a nice left right left, soriano i think would be a waste the sox dont run enough, lee could be an option as with most teams and i dont see the sox as a front runner, i see him going to huston, and Aram with him at third trade lowell for a reliver. hopefully thats a little more clear. I see the RED sox trying something more extravagant in the trade market.

When did Mike Gonzalez become an elite closer? People make it sound like his name should be up there with Hoffman and Rivera. He's had one great season, but that was closing meaningless games for the Pirates. Who knows how he'd handle the pressure of a pennant race? And putting Reyes in a trade for Gonzalez? That's ridiculous to me.

Onto the whole concept of needing somebody for the back of the bullpen. Did Izzy retire and I missed it? His season was a little subpar by his standards, but not a bad season either. Everybody is saying to keep Wainwright as the closer, but why keep him there when we already have a good closer, and are short on starting pitching?

Give Duncan some time in the OF in winter ball, and he'll improve. Tyler Johnson emerged as a quality lefty in the playoffs, so why get rid of a good hitter for Gonzalez?

By the way, I was wondering, and maybe Roto or somebody could help me with this. How much money does a team receive for winning the World Series, and would it be enough to help the Cards go after somebody big like Soriano?

i didnt see it as pawning him off, i just am hoping for the best, i know nothing about the treatments or how long, and his life is first priorty, who knows if he will ever come back or not, i was just trying to use him as an example of a prospect, edgar martinez? who im not brushed up enough to remember who else the sox have for young pitchers in the minors, maybe Hansack?

Very well said CR24, and on that same topic, with the whole baseball world watching Reyes throw the game of his life, how much could he be worth on the trade market this offseason, maybe getting close to prying C. Crawford away from Florida?

What the cardinals need more than anything else is another bat in the lineup. That bat is Chris Duncan, and they wouldn't trade him unless they could get another bat in return, and he would have to play 2B or OF. Even if they bring Jimmy back, they would need to start looking to the future. I don't see them trading Duncan for anything but a proven corner fielder/hitter.

The Bonderman/Tejada switch is interesting and could serve both teams well. Though, hopefully the Orioles wouldn't follow it up by shipping off Bedard. If they have a shot at signing one of the power-hitting FAs to man a corner IF/OF slot, why not sign somebody like Craig Counsell to play short and keep a Bedard/Bonderman 1-2 punch?

i want to repost this in here from the aramis ramirez page cause it fits way better in here:

moves id make if i could run the red sox:

i would explore a 3-way deal with the reds and white sox. id deal coco to chicago for one of their pitchers and send him to cinci with edgar martinez for adam dunn. add in second tier prospects where necesary. i think freddy garcia and edgar martinez sound like a package the reds would be interested in. i dont know though. if manny is traded, i think that aramis ramirez should be somone the red sox target to be a righty power sourse behind ortiz. i think that lowell should be traded for bullpen help either way, as i like youkilis' bat better at third than i do first, but replacing lowell with A-ram would be fine with me. then i would play dunn in left, if manny stays id play dunn at first, moving youkilis to third and trading lowell for bullpen help (linebrink?). as for center and right field i would like to give wily mo the centerfield job to begin, because he was much better there defensively than he was in right and for right field i would give up the bag of balls it would take to get ryan church and have him as insurance in case wily mo cant play in center everyday. sorry, that post is probably inapropraite for this thread.

then i would sign randy wolf to a incentive type deal to complete my rotation assuming jon lester cant play next year.

Duncan WILL be moved! Alot of players could hit 22 homeruns in front of Pujols. Duncan needs to play first base somewhere. And we need to flip him for pitching or as part of a deal to land Crawford...whom I think would be a HUGE deal if the Cards got him. He is what STL needs. We were a slow team last year. And we need some speed and a left handed bat. It also would allow the Cards to buy out Edmonds if they wanted to (which they shouldn't). Eck,crawford, pujols, rolen, edmonds,RF,2b,molina, pitcher. Add a Loretta at second and a similar pitching as last year and we have a repeat champion.

Manny will not be traded. I figured that everyone would learn their lesson by now; Manny wants to be traded every year and always comes back to produce great numbers. As for him not being able to make a full season, what gives you that impression? One year where he spent some time on the DL? And even if Manny were to get hurt, everyone is worried about who will protect Ortiz. Papi was still hitting great when Manny was injured this year.

I'd love to see the Sox sign Soriano. I'd return him to second base and either resign Alex Gonzalez or give Dustin Pedroia a shot at SS. Let Wily Mo play everyday in RF... he's a year or two away from a breakout season, but could find his groove earlier than anticipated. I'd bat Soriano 2nd in the lineup, unless Manny gets hurt, then move him to 4th. Sure, he wouldn't be a 40 SB threat anymore, but power-hitting middle infielders are hard to come by.

I'd rather the Sox traded for Andruw Jones than signed Soriano or picked up Dunn or ARam. Pitching and defense wins the World Series now, and Andruw Jones plays great CF and would be an excellent 5th hitter to protect Manny. I remember before that the Braves wanted a Crisp/Hansen/Lester package, maybe can be tweaked. I wouldn't want to part with Lester, who most scouts say will be better than Papelbon (pre-cancer).

I think the Bonderman/Tejada deal is interesting, but the Orioles are too stupid to see its potential. They're an organization that goes after the best bats year after year despite the fact that they desperately need pitching. And now they're interested in Soriano.... will they ever learn?

Rangers fans, don't give up on Tex. That kid is the real deal and will return his power numbers into the 40's again, possibly hitting 50. To be able to find a young, switch-hitting, 50 HR potential, gold-glove winning player is spectacular. I realize Texas is in a similar boat as Baltimore as far as all hitting/no pitching, but there are other guys you could trade to get the arms you need. Bedard for Young? Rangers could get a much better arm than Bedard, but it would also be a stupid trade for the Orioles to give up more pitching (so they might do it).

Your deals concerning the Orioles don't make much sense to me at all. The orioles are suppose to trade their best pitcher of this past season who they have contractual control over for the next 3 years to the rangers for michael young. And then trade miguel tejada to the tigers for jeremy bonderman. Basically, you are saying trade the heart and soul of the franchise as well as the head of the staff away to pick up a young gun pitcher to head up the staff and downgrade the shortstop position defensively and offensively.

Personally, I see no gain and a loss of talent in the picture. Bonderman is young and talented, yes, but so is Bedard. Tejada is a former MVP while Young is an all-star. This just seems to be a waste of time and energy where the only teams benefitting are the teams getting the talent from the orioles.

I love this site, but these moves you listed, besides the ones I discussed, are very arbitrary and pulled out of the blue.

Well of course they are. I made them all up. They're all ripe for discussion.

But I would much rather have Bonderman than Bedard, and I don't know if I'd call Miggy the heart and soul of the franchise.

maybe im biased, but i doubt the red sox are that interested in soriano, hes just not worth that money. if they do sign him, it would be interesting to see him in right field at fenway, with his speed and arm, he could do well there. id rather have dunn for 1b, similar production and less money.

Its not really just Dunn versus Soriano, its Dunn minus prospects versus Soriano minus an extra $5M or so.

well, then you have to talk about years. soriano is talking beltran money, something like 7 years. hes alreay 30. so youre signing soriano for his (potentially) declining years vs. dunn, who is 27 and signed for the next two, which are prime years. i dunno...the loss of prospects (in my scenario youd be losing crisp to teh white sox and edgar martinez as the major parts of the deal) seem negligible.

Hey Roto, doesn't Duncan-to-Oakland make more sense? I don't think they're too high and Dan Johnson anymore, and with Payton likely gone Swisher can shift back to LF.

I found your suggested trades for the Orioles very interesting. I do think that Tejada would fill more holes for the O's, if they were to send him to the Angels. My thought is to package him, Brian Roberts and Bedard for Brandon Woods, Howie Kendrick, Ervin Santana and Kendry Morales.

Tejada would provide the Angels with some much needed protection for Vlad Guerrero, infield leadership, and yet another drawing card to compete with the Dodgers for ticket revenue.

Roberts could team with Chone Figgins on top of a suddenly formidable lineup, to form a dangerous 1-2 speedster punch, stealing bases, raising havoc on the base paths and scoring quite a few runs.

This trade would bring a MUCH needed rebuilding process to the Orioles. Their once vaunted minor league system has become but a shadow of it's once proud self, under the moronic rule of Peter Angelos. The O's simply do not have the talent to rebuild from within.

The Angels have Eric Aybar and Macier Itzuris waiting in the minors to play SS, so they are not going to miss Woods. Especially with Tejada locked up for three more years. With young 1B Casey Kotchman and Dallas McPherson waiting for their chance, the Angels really don't need Morales as much as the O's do.

I firmly believe that this deal would be the best thing to happen to the Orioles, this side of Peter Angelos meeting his maker. Unfortunately, I don't think that Angelos and his puppet GM's have the vision or the savvy to pull it off.

Roto, what do you think of keeping Glavine and El Duque in lieu of signing Zito and Matsuzaka? Would it be too risky to have Pelfrey, Humber, Perez, Bannister, and Maine rounding out the staff?

i'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to vote. if you spend this much time analyzing and predicting baseball moves that won't ever be made, you can at least check a voter's guide for 3 mins and participate in democracy. no excuses. have a good one and go padres

Some of the trades I've proposed on here, might have been a little far fetched and I am a Red Sox homer, but jesus guys..... all that is a whole bunch of nonsense.

As for Red Sox related ideas. Wily Mo is not a Centerfielder, it was interesting watching him do it a couple times this year, and I like the idea that we can talk shit to all other teams saying our CF could sit down to dinner and eat their CF but you want to move Coco a hell of a ball player, who played like shite because of a broken bone in his hand all year, and give it to the behemoth??? I'm a Wily Mo fan, and I think the Sox have a beast on their hands that other people undervalue, with a little help learning RF and Hinske as a defensive replacement that is your number 5 protecting Manny.

1. Padres: Sign Akinori Iwamura for third base. The Phils would be a fine fit as well.

Good idea for both teams, not sure if either will do it, but they should.

2. Cardinals: Trade Chris Duncan to the Cardinals for Mike Gonzalez.

Chris Duncan is a crap player, let him stay with his daddy and give Larussa some bench pop, I think he sucks. I'd take Mike Gonzalez in my bullpen anyday. Young hard throwing Lefty who K's a lot of people. Wish he was in Boston last year. If the Pirates made a deal like this, their front office should be drug out into the street and pelted with Iron City beer cans. Maybe they should already, but whatever.

3. White Sox: Trade Freddy Garcia to the Diamondbacks for Scott Hairston and Juan Cruz.

Pffft I'll offer em two crap players who can't get it done in the NL West for a nice SP hopefully KW laughs at me like he would if Josh Byrnes proposed this.

4. Devil Rays: Keep Elijah Dukes

No brainer, unless they get a sweet pitching laden deal sent their way for the crackpot, you keep him fit him in and hope he stops acting like a jackass.

5. Cubs: Trade Bob Howry and Jacque Jones to the Yankees for Gary Sheffield

Why would the Yankees move Sheffield for Howry and Jacque Jones??? Howry yes, Jacque Jones? ANOTHER outfielder and a bad one at that.. how bout no. Matsui, Damon, Abreu, and Melky is enough.

6. Tigers: Sign Barry Bonds

Works with Leyland, and hell it couldn't hurt their lineup, but Tiger fans are good baseball fans, not sure if they would want to put up with douche.

7. Astros: Sign Jose Guillen for right field.

I would not want him on my team for any reason. But Houston did sign Preston Wilson so who knows, maybe they will make another big mistake.

8. Rangers: Trade Mike Young to the Orioles for Erik Bedard.

If I were either team I wouldn't want to trade either player. But I think the Rangers should do it if the Orioles are stupid enough to part with Bedard. He is a damn good pitcher. I've seen him make the Sox and the Yankees look absolutely foolish enough times that it'll be nice to see him out of the East. This coupled with the Bonderman-Tejada trade would make me happy. 19 games against the Orioles who would get worse at two positions. Maybe the Rays don't finish last next year. If I'm the Tigers or the Rangers I make the trades, if I'm the Orioles I make neither.

10. Mets: Sign Barry Zito.

I can see it happening, but I just don't think he's worth the money. On the Mets his win total goes up and his ERA goes down, but for the amount of cash you have to funnel his way?? ehhh.

A-rod isn't going anywhere, so coming up with trade ideas is an exercise in futility.

I still think people are thinking it will take way more to get Adam Dunn than it will. Carlos Lee went for basically Francisco Cordero and a bunch of random crap. One year of Adam Dunn his second year is voided if traded, at $10.5M plus isn't worth sending Coco off for a White Sox SP just to flip, and Edgar Martinez a damn good bullpen prospect. Coco Crisp broke a bone in his hand, he's one of the few guys that doesn't wear batting gloves getting jammed hurts like holy hell period let alone when you've got a hand injury on top of it. He'll be back to 2005 form, and shipping him off for anything would be a stupid move especially looking at the CF Free agent market.

Manny isn't going anyhere.
Sox should retain ALLSTAR 2B Mark Loretta, and let Pedroia have a year of being the back-up infielder. I believe Cora is a FA. If they let Gonzo go and get Lugo I'll be furious. Watching Alex Gonzalez night after night is amazing, and for the way he plays the field his hitting is not bad at all. If anybody else wins the SS Gold Glove, that award will become even more meaningless than it already is.

Coco-CF
Loretta or Pedroia-2b
Ortiz-DH
ManHole-LF
Wily Mo-RF
Varitek-C
Youk-1B
Lowell-3B
Gonzalez-SS

Bench: Should be Pedroia
Hinske
Hopefully Gregg Zaun to spell Tek and catch Wake.
Assortment of Pawtucket players.

Looks like a damn good team to me.

What would the Yankees do with Jacque Jones? They already have four outfielders: Abreu,Cabrera,Damon, and Matsui. Wouldn't a Howry and Veal or Gallagher would be more realistic

I'd trade Coco in a heartbeat if it meant getting Andruw Jones. And your lineup is pretty much the same as last year's, which isn't going to happen. Either Loretta or Gonzalez will be gone. My bet is on Gonzalez, which I also would hate to see. Julio Lugo is not worth the money that he requests, so I'd put Pedroia as the starting SS next year.

The Sox will make an offensive acquisition this winter. If it's Jones, then Crisp will be gone and Youk can lead off again. If it's Dunn, he'd play 1B, Youk would move to 3B, and Lowell would be traded for a solid bullpen guy. If we decide to pay for Soriano, he'd be at 2B most likely, and hopefully Gonzalez at SS with Pedroia given some more time in AAA. If not Gonzo, I'd feel comfortable giving Pedroia that shot as starting SS.

i dont really understand why the andruw jones thing wint die. i will be stunned if the braves trade him. ill bet my house that they wont. the red sox werent even going to keep him in that rumored deal at the deadline, if youll remember.

from what i saw at the end of the year, i would very much prefer pedroia play 2nd. i would say that gonzalez is much more likely to return than loretta.

id also be very suprised if soriano ever plays in the infield again. we already got him out of there, dont rock the boat!

arodsucksatlife, i didnt know that the option voided if dunn was traded. that kinda messes me up. assuming we could extend him beyond this year early a la beckett, i would still do this in a heartbeat. i think that dunn/church/good relief pitcher (gotten in proverbial lowell deal)would outperform coco/lowell/edgar gonzalez next year forward. that is of course, if you could extend dunn beyond just this upcoming year.

also, you cant treat a prospect like pedroia like a utility player. cora needs to be resigned, loretta needs to be let go, its time for pedroia to take over, and cora will be solid as usual. the shortstop position will probably change based on the offense around it, lugo might be needed if no otehr upgrades are made, but if a trade is made, than pehaps you can handle another year or two of gonzalez.

oh and about wily mo playing center, that was just an idea, one i still think is good. right field is just as difficult as center, if not harder at fenway. wily mo is not slow, hes huge, but its something i would not be opposed to seeing the sox try. but church and pena are interchangable at center and right in my plan. dosent really matter who plays where.

Sure, we weren't gonna keep Jones in that deal, but that's what it would've taken to get him. The trade rumor wont die because it's still a possibility: the Braves most likely will trade Jones sometime this offseason or during the 2007 season, since his contract runs out soon and they are in desperate need of rebuilding their pitching. With the Sox in need of the 3rd power bat and with plenty of young pitching talent, a trade between the two teams is quite possible. I agree though, that chances are that the Braves will wait until the trade deadline to move him because he will probably fetch better prospects then.

I would also prefer a Gonzalez-Pedroia middle infield, but I'm reading reports that say Loretta is more likey to be resigned. Also, Soriano going back to 2B is perfectly fine. I'm sure he wouldn't mind, probably even enjoy it, and the Sox would fill multiple holes with his signing. It all depends on whether we want to dish out the cash and the long-term deal.

I'm on the fence with Adam Dunn. His power and OBP is great, but it'd cost us a good chunk of cash and some strong prospects to pick up a guy who hits .250 and may only be around for a year. If we could sign him long-term, I'd love to stick him at first and bat him behind Manny, with Youk at third and Lowell traded for a quality bullpen arm.

i dont think the braves will trade him. at all. ever. and hes a fine player but people are really going crazy for him, some of the names im hearing include hansen and delcarmen. and with jones youd be dealing with the same one year deal as you would with dunn.

and my soriano comment meant that defenively soriano is not a good second baseman and he performed decntly defenively, but im still seeing alot of people slotting him as a 2nd baseman. soriano is an outfielder now and everone is better off for it its teh way it should be.

he performed decently defensively as an outfielder i meant to say.

Pedroia can not play short his arm and defense sucks! and Manny i think will be traded now everyone says this happens every year and it does but this year was different unlike the years before Manny quit on this horrible team in August and guys like Tex,Schilling and Wakefield im sure arent happy about Manny. I dont want Soriano at all i think the Red Sox will trade Manny for pitching and move Wily Mo to left to mask his horrible defense.

Ah okay, I see. If the Sox were to pursue Soriano though, it'd most likely be for 2B. Maybe RF, but I think they want to give Wily Mo the full-time job. Plus, I wouldn't mind average or even sub-par defense if Soriano hits the way he did last year.

I'd definitely trade Hansen in a deal for Jones. The Braves may not trade him like you said, but they could do some great things for their ballclub if they did.

"If the Sox were to pursue Soriano though, it'd most likely be for 2B."
id be willing to bet otherwise

"I'd definitely trade Hansen in a deal for Jones"
for one year of jones? no thanks. his agent said that he intends to become a free agent.

And Kramerica, I'm pretty much going to disagree with everything you said. I'd rather Pedroia play 2B, but his arm is fine for SS (see: David Eckstein). The only teams that could realistically trade for Manny (meaning they have the desire, the money, and the prospects) are the Mets and Angels. Lastings Milledge and Aaron Heilman just won't cut it, and the Angels don't want to give up our proposed package of Wood, Hendrick, Santana (understandably). Also, if Manny is even somewhat hurt at a time when we are out of the playoffs, I don't care if he rests. Also, you're making assumptions about his teammates which has have nothing to support them. And even if Manny was traded, then the Sox would almost certainly make a huge push for Soriano to play LF, not Wily Mo.

Yeah, his agent said he'd most likely become a FA. If he's traded to a team like Boston, a winning franchise with a love of the game and the money to spend on him, I very much think he'd reconsider.

I'm a Cards fan and I've been wanting to move Duncan AND Reyes. I think Reyes is still 1-2 years away from being an effective MLB pitcher. Why not get rid of him and Duncan while stock is still somewhat high. I'd love to swap Duncan for a player like Reed Johnson, young, high average and good in the field. It would be nice to some how get Vernon Wells in a Cards uni but thats a pipe dream. Earlier in the season I wanted to trade Duncan and Reyes for Carl Crawford but that isn't any good anymore.

Only the mets and ANgels?Heres a list-
Astros
Mets
ANgels
Orioles
Rangers
Mariners
White Sox
Cubs
Dodgers

Have all reportdely show interest in Manny. So yes there are more then two teams. ANd i do have something to back me up in 2005 Manny and Schilling got into an argument before and believe no teamate likes it when there busting there butts off while Manny stops playing no team mate wants it.Pedroia cant play short he wouldnt be able to do it and Soriano is a great hitter but play him at secondbase with Pedroia at short the worst infield defense in baseball!

I feel a serious need to address some of the rumors on this site.

1) The Tigers are idiots if they try to trade Bonderman. Folks, I feel the need to remind you that Kenny Rogers, although he pitched in the playoffs like a 25-year-old, he's not one anymore, and he probably won't be around come '08. Wouldn't you want to keep Verlander/Bonderman/Robertson together? I mean, there's the OUTSIDE CHANCE the Tigers could pry Zito away from the Mets. However, I don't see it happening. Tigers keep Bonderman.

2) The Orioles were pretty bad this year. The only thing that kept them ahead of the Devil Rays is Tejada. You think they're gonna try to move him??

3) Everyone is talking about Manny wanting to be traded. Same old song and dance from Yawkey way. Manny always wants to be traded. No news here. He'll be in Boston hitting 40 homers again in '07.

4) To the person who said Ortiz couldn't hit when Manny was hurt? Ummm, what rock were you under?? The person on the DL that hurt the Sox the most was Jason Varitek. Being without his catching skills and leadership in the clubhouse is what caused the Sox to implode in September. Mirabelli was forced into a role that he's not used to, Javy Lopez was signed in a failed attempt to fill a hole... Ortiz kept hitting, no matter what. And he'll continue to do that for many years in a Sox uniform.

What do you think about this... Atlanta trades Andruw Jones to Cleveland for Andy Marte and Grady Sizemore. Atlanta gets a speedy CF who can be the top of their lineup AND their former #1 prospect back. With Marte, they could explore moving Chipper for pitching. Cleveland gets that big bat that can protect Travis Hafner plus an outstanding defensive CF.

What do you think??

bambosoxfan, not a bad idea but I'd hold onto Sizemore if I was the Indians. Grady is going to be a much better player than Jones in about two years and is much younger. They'd be better off trying to get more pitching for someone like Blake or Peralta. Do you really think that Hafner needs more protection? If you don't think Martinez is doing enough, then Hafner's doing a pretty darn good job on his own.

I'm with bamasoxfan on the Tigers ... try to get that big bat by trading one of the big time AAA pitchers (Sanchez or Tata), a mid level prospect with a Monroe, or Thames.
Don't touch Bondermania ... Bonderman, and Verlander can be to the Tigers what Glavine and Smoltz were to the Braves - the cornerstones of a yearly contender
I'm loving the Tejada rumours, but I really think Texiera is destined to be here - if not in January, he will be by July 31st.
Expect the Tigers to make an offer to Dietske, and flirt with Soriano ... I would really like the Tigers to make a push for Schmidt - that would just increase the chances of them being involved in a blockbuster "great young arm" for "big time bat" trade

"Atlanta trades Andruw Jones to Cleveland for Andy Marte and Grady Sizemore."

Wow...absolutely no freaking chance...in hell...in a million years.

I think most of the readers here can figure out why, so I am not going to write a syposium about it, but it has something to do with Andruw Jones being ...

1. very overrated at this point in his career with the glove and somewhat overrated with the bat
2. fat
3. close to FA
4. being 6 years older than Sizemore
5. not being one of the top 20 (or so) valuable players in baseball, like Sizemore is
6. having a worse OBP and SLG than Sizemore while playing in the far inferior league
7. being paid $10 million more than Sizemore, who plays for a mid-budget team
8. maybe not even being worth Andy Marte (from a Cleveland stand point), let alone THE CENTERPIECE OF THE ORGANIZATION WHO JUST SIGNED A 7-YEAR EXTENSION...BEFORE HE WAS ARBITRATION ELIGIBLE...that how good he is.

If the Braves want Sizemore and Marte, they would have to trade McCann and...come to think of it, I don't think the Braves could even come up with a package for Grady Sizemore, the best outfielder (No, NOT YOUNG outfielder, best period) in baseball not named Carlos Beltran.

I seriously laughed out loud when I read "Andruw Jones for Grady Sizemore". That's lopsided heavily in favor of the Braves. Then you add Andy Marte? COME ON. I agree that Sizemore is THE best outfielder not named Carlos Beltran. Soon he WILL be the best.

Sizemore is a better CF than Andruw and other options (Burrell, Sheffield) would come at a much cheaper price.

I think the other teams make more reasonable partners to the Yankees than the Cubs for Sheffield. unless of course, they are willing to throw aroudn Vael or Soto or the likes, which i kinda doubt.

Astros make a lot of sense, as people have noted that Pence is almost ready, so locking RF up with a Carlos Lee makes far less sense than getting a Sheffield there for one year. Sheff's approach is also prefect for the wall in minute maid.

Most fielding numbers i'm reading suggests that Michael Young improved his defense significantly this year. he's gone from a butcher to average SS at least. and at his price and ability, i would not move him without something very serious comming back, and i don't think that Bedard alone is worth it.

As for Bonderman, I think it's concivable that he is moved sometime before the start of 08. but they need a pretty sweet deal for this to happen. and I don't think Miguel Tejada alone is enough. and i don't see why they are so eager to move Gullien to 1B instead of signing a real 1b?

I think the D-rays will move somebody sometime soon, I think Dukes/Baldelli
/ Crawford /Gomes / Cantu are all possible candidates and they probably move at least 1 or 2 of them sometime this off season. If i were other teams Dukes and Gomes would be most attractive while Cantu is a ok gamble candidate and Baldelli is a nice CF. Crawford is going to cost a king's ransom though. but it could happen.

As for A-rod deals, it's not likely to happen, and if it does, it's going to be a real king's ransom, Crede / Garcia is not even close, I'm looking for say... Billingsly / Laroche / Penny / Broxton / Hall. or Santana / Aybar / Mathis / Morales /Figgins

As for the Red Sox, i think they are in a lot of trouble next year. their rotation has a lot of questionmarks and their bullpen is non-existent right now, Papalbon can only help one problem, which one is it going to be? and is it enough really?

For the Yankees, I don't really think they need a serious 1B, they might end up with a Wes Helm type of guy and/or just play Matsui at first or play Andy Phillips more again.

I just wanted to note that not one trade on here is ever going to happen besides the sheffield to the Cubs deal. However, everyone here is over valueing sheffield. There is no bidding war for sheffield. Atleast not the way the yankees are making it seem. I think if the trigger is pulled it could be as little as marshall for sheffield up to about the kerry wood (once he resigns) for sheffield range

No. 11 Toronto sends Vernon Welles to Cubs for Donald Veal and Jacque Jones. Toronto gets the big name minor league starter and cheaper bat, and the Cubs get the Center fielder they need.

Silly cubs fan

On another note here is an interesting idea for Toronto.

Alex Rios to Atlanta for Tim Hudson and Salty

Atlanta gets another OFer who plays top end defence and is an all-star who hasn't even reached Arbitration yet. Also with Hampton back they are overloaded with starters and this would lower their payroll.

Toronto Opens a spot in the OF for Adam Lind so you have Wells Johnson and Lind then the Jays get the #3 starter they need and a Catcher of the future that the team really lacks.

Also on another Toronto note involving the pirates.

Alot of Pirate fans goto the Jays forum and ask about Lyle Overbay. Which at first I laughed at however with the team not really wanting to play Adam Lind as a DH I wonder if he could play first base. It would cost the Pirates a starting pitcher and maybe that Dourmot in some sort of deal I think.

However I don't see the jays dealing Overbay.

On a side note some of you should consider the deal yer talkin about before posting them. A good example is that Cubs jays post Why would the Jays trade Wells their best player when their trying to make the playoffs and with a good offseason I think could be the front runners in the AL east. Depending on how the yanks deal with their Pitching. Teams inthe playoff hunt are not gonna trade top end players for prospects it just doesn't happen. If anything the Cubs need to be the ones thinking about unloading Prior Lee etc for prospects and rebuilding.

I don't think the cubs are quite at that rebuilding phase yet but if this offseason doesn't turn out fruitful it is probably that time.

Sorry but on the same note...

The cubs won't trade lee...not yet atleast...they give him a season to build back his value before they would consider trading him.

The only thing that keeps popping in my heads with the suggestions for the Cardinals, is this: with FA like Soriano and Lee, why are we gonna give away our future for somebody that will be a FA and go somewhere within 2-3 years?

I wish that Dewitt would just make the freakin jump to 100 million. We hover around 95 mil every year, why not step it up the extra 5 mil? We have a brand new stadium, and oh yeah, WE JUST WON THE WS!!! I do think that we need more speed, and I personally think that Edmonds should be bought out. Postseason aside, I don't think he can last a full season anymore.

Besides my wish for them to loosen up the payroll a lil bit and pick up Soriano, I've thought that signing Dave Roberts to play the outfield would solve the speed issue. Roberts lead off, with Eckstein batting 2nd? Eckstein is so great at bunting, and Roberts and stealing bags, Pujols could bat with a man in scoring position very often. I think that going after Loretta would be great, but bringing Adam Kennedy back home wouldn't be too bad either. We just need a .300 hitter, not anybody spectacular.

As far as trading Reyes because he's 1-2 years away, I go back to my first point. What's the sense in trading him for a guy that walks in 2 years? Then we watch two guys that used to be with us that are doing great for somebody else. And it's not like we are the Tigers that have so many guys in our rotation that Reyes is expendable. Makes it tough when your best bargaining chips come from your greatest need.

The Cubs idea is a stupid one, plain and simple. Sheffield is not only over the hill, injury-prone, and a menace in the field, he's got a more abrasive personality than Barry Bonds and keeps talking about how the deal he made was with the Yankees only and any other team it doesn't apply to. By trading a bullpen arm and the team's only lefthanded power for a $13 million malcontent whose likely to be plenty injured again, well, it's a good thing you don't run the Cubs.

I doubt the Phillies would have much interest in Iwamura for third base. I'm sure they'd prefer a righthanded bat there to counter the Utley/Howard tandem. Also, Japanese numbers rarely hold up over here. I have a feeling Iwamura would be the thirdbase version of Kaz Matsui and put up stats slightly better than Abraham Nunez.

Numbers translate pretty well. Kaz is more the exception that the rule; Hideki Matsui and Kenji Johjima's numbers held up quite well. Japan ball is above Triple A so think of it like that.

Hideki Matsui is hardly the power hitting "Godzilla" that he was touted as, and it would be pretty difficult not to end up with 100 RBI in that Yankee lineup. If Iwamura hit 15 HR over here I'd be shocked.

Gentleman's bet, he tops 15 HR if he gets 500 ABs.

Hey anyone know what is happening with Mike Maroth. He was the Tigers best pitcher before he got hurt. I know he only started a few games, but he will be back with Detroit next year right? Anyone know? Roto?

Maroth is under Tiger control for 2007 and 2008 I believe. He came back in September after surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow, but wasn't 100%. Didn't make playoff roster. Should be 100% by spring.

Ok good, thanks Roto.

Roto, I think that you are correct that Iwamura will hit more than 15 HR. I think that Husker has a point that the Phillies need a right-handed in the lineup. But I guess that with the weak 3rd base free agents (depending on Aramis Ramirez) they may have to get that right-handed bat at some other position.

Iwamura in Philly, I don't see it. Ramirez makes more sense but if Gillick thinks hes got too much Bobby in him, then he's out as well.

What I'd like to see is Burrell play 1b somewhere. He played it in College I think and I've always cringed watching him play Left. In the down year he seems to dominate the crop of Free Agent 1b and if he could DH as well all the more. He's basically like a FA because you wouldn't have to give up much besides cash for him. If he just would take the hint and waive his NTC. He seems like a good buy low.
as for the 10 moves

Pads and Iwamura seem to fit great but I've heard SD fans doubt this one as well. Seems to me like Iwamura, the best japanese bat available?, might go to a dark horse that doesn't glaringly need him.

Duncan for mike gonzalez I like it if you like duncan. People seem way too high on gonzalez in some posts.

Garcia for junk. Pretty weak. Nuff said

D-rays make a trade for someone please. I love Carl Crawford like the team alot. But do something with your prospects before Carl is 30.

Sheff I dont like as a cub but i agree it's not gonna take much to get him either.

Barry Bonds super crumb. That said exactly what the Tigers need but i wouldnt like it. Check that I might sign him and bench his ass at 750, put him on the playoff roster if you get in. Can dream right?

Sheff i like in houston as well but Guillen could be had cheaper 1 year deal im sure.

I have mild doubts about Bonderman being an ace and if you could get a ransom for him I would consider it. That said Tejada doesnt fit the mold.

Young for Bedard isn't great either. Makes sense for the rangers but Bedard really has only been great for 1.5 seasons. Batting champ contender and multiple all star SS in the AL seems worth more. I'd love young in Philly at 3b dont know if he'd be better or worse there. Again dream as Phils dont even have a bedard to offer.

Zito mets I thought all along was a match. Then they had no need. Now they have a huge need again.

Do you think there is any chance of a Dunn for Bonderman trade, Dunn would give the Tigers the left handed power guy that they need. He can play LF, 1B, or DH. In return the Reds would have a pretty solid rotaion for a couple of years. Harang, Arroyo, Bonderman, Bailey, and Milton/Lohse.

Sounds fairly reasonable to me. Although I'd rather have Bonderman there.

ok back to the joe siegler post about youngs fielding. I am a met fan living in NY but a baseball nut, i have the mlb package and probably see about 75-90 rangers games a season for about 3 years. I must agree with you on the fact that he is a very steady fielder and makes all the plays. I have to mention though mtex repost to this post saying michael young is the leader and the heart, i agree but something has to change. Dont you realize the rangers go after bats every offseason and never get any better because they cant pitch, they simply need pitching and in my oppinion, they can sacrifice a bat to get a good arm, maybe not michael young, but somebody else, and even young if it is the right deal. Blalock, Texeira, Ian kinsler, and if it is possible to resign either matthews JR or Lee, then i think with a quality arm or two the rangers can compete for the al west

Fielding Bible says Young, while he has tools and a good arm, can't make plays to his left (up the middle) to save his life.

nah its cool roto i understand ya know all the balls put in play and everything and the system doesnt lie but i just dont think he is a liability out there

I have also seen lots of posts regarding teams trading for Carl Crawford, is he rumored to be trying to be moved by the Rays? I haven't heard this, but if that is fact, i dont see what team wouldn;t be interested in him

i have one other question. I simply dont understand why the redsox fans keep saying heilman and milledge for manny isnt enough. MANNY IS PAST HIS PRIME, A CLUBHOUSE CANCER, AND TONS OF MONEY. I must say i love manny and i think he would fit perfectly in the latino mets clubhouse, and his past friendship with pedro. I, being a met fan do not want this trade to go through, but i wouldnt lose sleep over it if it did. On the flipside , i would be really hoping this trade does go through if i was a red sox fan. You are getting a starter/ reliever in the beginning of his prime with electric stuff, and a potential 5 tool player who is only 21 years old, just my opinion

Manny is most definitely not a clubhouse cancer. He pisses the media off by not talking to them, and the front office off by being petulant sometimes. His team mates love him.

Manny PAST HIS PRIME is still a better hitter than most MLB players can dream of being. I'll keep him. The Mets can keep their "starter/ reliever in the beginning of his prime with electric stuff," AHHHHHHHHHHHHH HA HA HA HA how bout no, and 21 year old "POTENTIAL" 5 tool player that already pissed off his own team mates by acting too cocky when he hasnt done a damn thing at the major league level, and I'll keep ManHole's .300/45/120

lol like u just said milledge didnt piss off his teamates he pissed off the media, teamates love him. Lol what did manny do when the score keeper took a hit away from him. Im pretty sure he sat out for like 2 weeks lmao and cried like a baby. Bottom line i would take the trade or not, doesnt matter, mets will win with or without making it

arodsucksatlife just a question who do u root for?

Say what you want about what Heilman or Milledge are worth. Keep in mind that before the trading deadline the Mets & Astros agreed to send the both of them to Houston for Roy Oswalt. Unfortunately, Sanchez got hurt for the Mets and he needed Heilman for the bullpen. I would not trade either of them individually because you can get a superstar type player by packaging them both.

I'm a Red Sox fan...though since 2004 I have been able to stop loathing the Mets, so I root for them as my NL team that I hope gets to the world series to lose to the Sox. I love Reyes and Wright, and have always been a Delgado/Beltran/Pedro fan so I can't not root for the Mets. That and they both hate the Yankees more than other franchises.

Oh and Milledge did piss his team mates off, during that series I believe was against the Giants. When he ran out to the field after hitting a HR or scoring a run can't remember and high fived the fans down the RF line. Which I thought was great to see his exuberence and whatnot his teammates had Willy Randolph take him aside and give him a tongue lashing about not upstaging the opponents and he apparently got into it with Cliff Floyd, Do Luca, and Carlos Delgado. While I'm sure it was no bid deal and isn't exactly chucking a bat at an ump or saying the triple A affiliate is like showering in sewage, and demanding to be called up its something.

I don't not like Heilman I just thinking pitching in the AL East is harder than pitching anywhere else, and that a bullpen arm from the NL East isn't going to translate very well.

One more reason that Trevor Hoffman cant ever be compared to Mariano Rivera they are the two big closers of the last 10 years but one has been doing it in the AL East(mainly AL part) and one has been doing it in the NL West and whatnot.
