T.J. Ford Injury

Posted by TheScore.ca on December 11, 2007

Raptors' fans took a collective deep breath tonight and are still holding it as they - and the team - wait for more information on the status of T.J. Ford.

As you'll see in the video, Ford was fouled hard by Atlanta rookie Al Horford late in the fourth quarter while cruising in for an easy layup. Horford was given a flagrant foul 2, resulting in immediate ejection from the game.

An irate Sam Mitchell erupted on the sidelines and had to be restrained by officials after he ran out onto the court in opposition of the foul on his point guard.

This is a scary injury on its own, but is particularly frightening for Ford since he has a past history of problems with his neck and spinal cord and hasn't totally left them behind him.

There's bound to be some debate about what Horford intended to do when fouling Ford. Should he have stayed away from Ford's head or is that too hard to consider and process in the few seconds there is as it plays out on the court? Should Horford receive any disciplinary action as a result? What's your take?

For the sake of T.J. Ford, hopefully this is just a scare, something he can bounce back from quickly and doesn't threaten his career.

Everybody keeps saying he (Horford or whatever his name is) didn't mean to do it. What do you mean didn't??That block is almost impossible to make(from the back and over a players head even for way better players than Horford and let's face it that rookie is not blocking any shots anytime soon. He meant to do it cause he was losing and should be punished or dropped on his head to see what it feels like and then we can see if he'll attempt to geta block like that again.

Of course he meant to foul, but that doesn't mean it was an intentional flagrant. It was a rookie mistake and a really, really unfortunate incident, and that goes both ways.

You can't be too hard on Horford-- you have to remember TJ Ford turns on the jets and goes in hard every single play. He just out-manoeuvred Horford.

TJ will hopefully be alright. I hope him recovering is all that comes from this.

Just to add to that...I hope no fines and suspensions come of this. I think TJ got lucky (if you can call it that) in that he has feeling and movement, but obviously he was in shock and that was a scary, hard foul. Just an unfortunate and unnecessary play, but seriously, stop acting like Horford went at him maliciously. He's a young guy and he made an aggressive mistake. It's just really unfortunate that it had to happen to Ford.

I can't watch that highlight anymore, and I'm not a squiemish person. Just knowing TJ's history with his neck, I thought he may have even broken it before he hit the ground, when Horford's hand snapped TJ's head back on the initial contact. I'm glad to hear he had movement in his extremeties, but that just means the worst case scenerio is ruled out. I'm praying for TJ to make a full recovery. TJ and Chris's have a synergistic relationship and hopefully the team as a whole can rally around this lost. We are blessed to have Jose, but I would like to see the Raps look at adding a legitiment third point guard. I feel we suffer when Darrick is on the floor. He's good at controlling the ball, but his defense is very poor and I simply have no confidence when he's in the game. Either way, the Raps added depth this off season and they will simply have to rely more on there swingman to produce, and hopefully Barnani can take that step to becoming an elite player (which I believe he can be) in the near future. Go Raps Go!!!

Does anyone know if TJ is okay? That's all i can care about right now

I just read that he's going to be released from hospital this morning and will come back to Toronto. Sounds like he's fine. He experienced some numbness after the fall but everything else seems to be okay. Good for him.

If you think that Horford tied to foul him hard then you have never played the game before. It's easy to break down plays in slow-motion. However, the speed that those two hard going in to the collision and the turn in T.J's body makes it hard to predict and harder to coordinate... Horford was only about five inches from a good foul on the shoulder that would have stopped the shot attempt..

You know that foul was stupid. Because you can just give up a basket (point) to the Raps. I think T.J Ford should take a break this nights game, to be on the safe side. And CB4's friendship came out that night. So that was good.

You can tell initially he went up for the block but when Ford went to the other side he swung his arm towards the first round thing in sight, which unfortunatly was a head
