Trouble in Gainesville? December 12, 2007

“He (Miles) wants Michigan. Now here is another name to chew on.
University of Florida coach Urban Meyer has a near perfect situation. He has great facilities, a great program, great recruiting base and can remain a top 10 program just about every year he is there.
I was told the door to Meyer is not wide open. However, there is a small crack because his relationship with UF AD Jeremy Foley is not the best.

What harm can a phone call do?” [Detroit Free Press]

Herban Meyer would be stupid not to go to Michigan. Florida fans have such a short memory. Where was your team from 1906 to 1996? In the shitter, thats where.

As the argument went last year regarding Alabama, Michigan is by far the better program in comparison to UF. Saban will be mopping the porno peepshow floor with UF because he is a great coach and Alabama is a far better program. Herban Meyer will be mopping the floor with tOSU when he takes the Michigan job, because he would be a better coach than anyone else in the Big 10 (except for Ron Zook). Big 10 football will be slow motion to Meyer after 3 years in the SEC.

Run through the Meyer’s mission essential checklist for a winner:

  • Integrity — red
  • Coaching skills — yellow
  • National championships — green
  • Beaten Tressel — green
  • Wears blue and (yellow) — check

Maybe Michigan doesn’t want Urban Meyer. He couldn’t be farther from a Michigan man. A Michigan man is not someone who is associated with Bo, it is a person with integrity and class. Those are two things that Lloyd had and Urban Meyer does not know the meaning of.   BUT, Meyer beat the living shit out of the Failboats.

You want Woody and Bo all over again?

Meyer is an Ohio guy, growing up in Ashtabula. He briefly served as an assistant at Ohio State under Bruce, just like Tressel. He has already demonstrated an ability to beat Ohio State, albeit once, although that one time was very convincing [Cleveland Morning Journal].

Bull Gators, you better start opening those pocketbooks. Meyer is gone. Hello days of yore for UF, back in the toilet. OSU fans start crying.

Sources in Michigan say Meyer is extremely interested and contacted Michigan through backchannels about the vacancy.

Wishful thinking for Vols fans. I can’t imagine him leaving with all of the talent we have, primed to compete for more SEC & MNC rings.

Two things that I don’t buy about this article:
1; I am not aware of any issues concerning Meyer and Foley’s relationship.
2; You are making up the statement that “Meyer is extremely interested and contacted Michigan through backchannels about the vacancy.” You pulled it out of your ass.

And before you respond to this remember, MEYER OWNS TENNESSEE. 3-0 BITCHES!

I don’t see it. However, in this day and age, who knows.. Anyone is willing to take a short chartered flight to make a few more Million.

Wait… Mark Richt is going to be coaching LSU after Miles leaves. June Jones is going to leave Hawaii for GTech, and… I think Bill Cowher is gonna come coach the Falcons..

Yeah.. Right.. And Meyer leave Florida?

Wouldn’t that kinda be a divorce, and they’ve have to change their names from Tebow- Herban Meyer?

Silly Gator, after watching Saban and Petrino you must be in denial.

Both of the sources cited are considered to be credible papers.

Don’t think for one minute that Meyer feels any loyalty to the University of Florida.

I think Jai accurately touched on salient points that motivate guys like Meyer.

It would be Herban Tebow-Meyer

5. Ears Whitworth - December 12, 2007

nice photoshops of the “jorts” on the microphone and the blurred out bird finger

6. COL Kurtz - December 12, 2007

@1 Do you know Foley and Meyer? I ask cause you alluded to it with this statement:

“I am not aware of any issues concerning Meyer and Foley’s relationship.”

@3: A BLOG from the Detroit Free Press is not a reliable source.

@6: I did not allude to knowing them personally, but I have never read, heard, or seen anything to make me believe that there is a rift between the two. Aside from the occasional sandwich fight, bong swat, and towing company “misunderstandings”, Foley has no reason to give Meyer a hard time.

I hate the fact that I’m even commenting on such garbage, but here goes it.

Unlike some Coaches (ex: Petrino, Saban), Meyer’s ego does not overpower the needs of his family. They want Florida to be their last stop. His wife and kids love it there.

Along with that, he knows that the state of Florida has the best recruits in the Nation along with Texas and California.

He’s not going anywhere.

Funny pic by the way.

9. LL - December 12, 2007

Oh yeah, and the remark about him and Foley not having a good relationship? Are you kidding me?

10. Doug Mennen - December 12, 2007

No was in hell Meyer leaves UF anytime soon. He’s not an idiot. He knows that UF is no stepping stone job ala Louisville (Petrino) or Utah. The talent level at UF is about to come to a head and Meyer has his team primed for a few more NC runs.

11. Nick Saban - December 12, 2007

high 5 Doug. this damn people always acting like Urban is a selfish bastard. he is a loyal son of florida, he drinks and pisses swamp water

12. Sam - December 12, 2007

Does Jai have nothing else in his life other than to spew anti-Gator garbage? Perhaps he could write about his team winning the SEC…wait that has not happened in 10 years. Or their domination over their arch rivals Alabama and Florida…wait… that certainly did not happen this year. So in retrospect, I can definitely understand why he has no other subject matter to write about.

13. COL Kurtz - December 12, 2007

Solid Sam. how did UF do in the SEC CG this year?

pass me a bong and an AK i am going native

14. Ears Whitworth - December 12, 2007

I disagree, i think Meyer is an idiot. He has the “deer in the headlights” stare perfected

WTF is this? “Unlike some Coaches (ex: Petrino, Saban), Meyer’s ego does not overpower the needs of his family.”

16. Common Sense - December 12, 2007

Urb is sitting pretty on easy street in Gainesville. He isn’t going anywhere. He could re-write all of the record books if he stays at Florida. He has everything his heart desires in Florida. Michigan offers absolutely nothing that he doesn’t already have.

17. you can't spell oUTback bowl without UT - December 12, 2007

The only advantage that Michigan offers is a cakewalk to the MNC thanks to that brutal Big 11 schedule.

18. LL - December 12, 2007

Ears:

From what I’ve seen and read, that’s my opinion.

Petrino is moving his family for the 2nd time in under a year because he wants to coach in the SEC. Because of the type of person he is, I wouldn’t doubt it if he didn’t even really consult his family on the move to Arkansas. I doubt his family is excited about another move.

Saban had a teenage daughter in Miami who was about to enter her senior year of high school and loved it there and didn’t want to leave.

Now, having followed the Meyer hiring process, etc., at Florida, he’s stated many times that he promised his kids and his wife that UF is their final stop. He doesn’t like moving his family around at all and along with that his wife and kids love life in sunny Florida.

At the NC Celebration last January at the Swamp, Meyer told a story of about how 10 years ago he was on a recruiting trip for ND in Florida. He stopped in Gainesville and visited the campus and the Swamp and said that he said to his wife that eventually, this (UF) is the place where he wanted to be.

He’s not going anywhere.

19. LL - December 12, 2007

Why would he want to go coach at Michigan? To coach slow teams in the cold, under gray skies, in front of the quietest 100,000+ fans in the nation?

This whole topic is just dumb.

20. Mark Mangino - December 12, 2007

ll

you think that by calling it dumb it won’t happen? Bury your head in sand and hope like hell Michigan doesn’t call. He is from up that way you know….
