Fans of the New York Mets and Yankees will be able to warm themselves
around the hot stove this week as Gotham Baseball Magazine will cover
Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings on-location from Las Vegas,
NV. The staff will provide a range of reports and special features
throughout the week.
There's lots of theories out there as to why the New York Mets – and
plenty of other big league clubs – haven't made many moves prior to
next week's Winter Meetings.
The economy. Everyone's waiting on Tex and C.C. The MLBPA and its “Get Every Penny Or Else” mantra.
I feel like we’ve gone down this path with the Mets before, should he
start or should he relieve? We have been hearing that debate
surrounding Aaron Heilman for years now. We hear about Heilman’s
desire to start (2008 being no different), though the Mets obviously
don’t believe he’s capable of handling those responsibilities instead
wanting him to remain in the bullpen. It’s a never-ending debate that
will hang over Heilman and the team until he is finally jettisoned.
Yesterday was a good day for me. The cold that'd been lingering for
about 6 weeks seemed to finally have passed. Somehow, my financial
portfolio gained 3%. And I had a very insightful conversation with
Brian Boehringer. You remember Brian, don't you? He won a ring with the
'96 Yankees, pitched for San Diego and got beat in the World Series by
the '98 Yankees, was part of the Yankees organization 3 different
times... Sure, he's got a funny last name. But so does our
president-elect. Moving on.
As the New York Mets ponder the pros and cons of adding a Manny
Ramirez, trading for a Jermaine Dye, or possibly signing Trevor
Hoffman, perhaps it's time to remember that those who forget their
history are usually doomed to repeat it.
