Jack Kingston

Besides writing for ITB in-season, I do a political blog called, Kitchen Table Politics. It’s a mix of news, analysis, and opinion, without the Youtubesday’s here on ITB.

One of the things I do daily is post all the roll call votes in Congress, no smirking please, and ran across this gem yesterday.

The House passed a resolution praising the Florida Gators on their recent National Championship. These things are usually passed unanimously and give said honoree something official to recognize whatever they accomplished.

Not so fast my friend on this one, it passed 414-1. Who in their right mind would go on record against Florida winning the championship? A misplaced Ohio State fan? Steve Spurrier’s sister? Some Auburn booster?

None of the above. Ladies and gentleman, meet Jack Kingston, Georgia’s representative from their first district. For this, his party doesn’t matter.

Jack Kingston, whose website is designed in Bulldog red and [black] (I goofed), could not let his personal feelings go for 15 seconds to honor 83 kids for a long, hard, season. Mind you he voted for a resolution FOR Boise State, passing 415-0, but could not bear to vote for the Gators.

Way to show your young people about sportsmanship, sir. Go Gators.

What a class act you are.

I know “my kid” beats) up “your kid” but come on sir, these are kids you are hurting.

Not that it will matter one little bit.

    2006 SEC Champs

2006 National Champs (Football and Basketball)

Guess I would hate the Gators too!

    Sore loser.

the good news is; …I doubt he’ll ever have to vote to praise his dawgs.

15 out 17 must really hurt.

Georgia Congressman Really Hates Florida’s College Football Champs…

It was just another pointless roll-call vote to commemorate some national trivia — in this case, “commending the University of Florida Gators for their victory in the 2006 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and for winning the national college …

My question is why did the other representatives from Georgia vote Yes?

  5. by Andy, on January 17 2007 @ 2:39 pm

Wow. I am a Florida grad and I rooted hard for UGA in the Peach Bowl against V-Tech because I like to see the SEC do well against other conferences in bowl games. Thanks for showing my school the same respect you jackass.

You’re getting a little too serious here. If congress is going to waste time with such frivolity, then Kingston can make a little joke by voting against the measure. Kingston and his companions probably got a chuckle out of it. Fans of most schools, including Florida, will get a chuckle out of it as well. I’d bet Chris Leak, who beat Georgia 3 out of 4 times as a starter, gets the joke. Sportsmanship is important, but it is for the sportsmen. So, unless you were on the field last week, I suggest you climb down off your horse.

Don’t get me wrong… I was a die hard UF fan for 4 hours during the game… I was all SEC all the time. Now that it is over, it is time to go back to being rivals. :-)

Seriously, the travesty is that the Georgia delegation didn’t vote against it. Actually, the real travesty is that Congress does this stuff instead of, I don’t know, FIXING THINGS.

What is the state legislature doing wasting time on recognizing a FLORIDA team? Did we laud USC, LSU, or Ohio State when they won?? Those 83 kids didn’t work any harder than a number of teams. It is appropriate that their own state recognize them, but why should they care if ANY OTHER state does???

  11. by Grant, on January 17 2007 @ 4:19 pm

Gators like to call folks names, like ‘Jackass’….that’s why Jack voted ‘NO’ for UF.

Jack Kingston showed more political (and moral) common sense with this single vote than the entire congress has shown in the last 4 years.

Bravo, Rep. Kingston! You, sir, are a great American!

ignore my comment. I was thinking that Jack was a STATE Rep. Actually I read the whole thing wrong after getting irate at the red and WHITE comment. We are red and BLACK. It is appropriate that the US legislature recognize any and all MNCs as long as they include Soccer, Equestrian, etc.

[...] Not in this case, though. They could only muster 414 “aye” votes for the resolution (Boise State did one “aye” better on a similar congratulatory vote). Jack Kingston, a Georgia representative, actually voted “nay” on the Gator resolution, which vote is generating some righteous indignation in certain quarters on the ‘Net. [...]

The only thing dumber than this even being voted on is the poor, pathetic Gator fanbase who feel they need validation in the form of a resolution before they can feel good about what their football team did.

I couldn’t care less about Georgia or Florida, but to say that this guy is a jerk because he didn’t support a useless waste of government time and money only gives substance to their rivals’ claims that Gator fans are booger-eating, jean short wearing mouthbreathers. Grow up.

    To the Gator Nation,
Jack Kingston represents a district in Georgia, not the Bulldog Nation.
I’m a Bulldog Fan first and an SEC Fan second. The Gators are Number 1 and proved
    it on the field.

I am sure there are a few Gators out there who would not cheer for Georgia
victories, so ignore the sore losers and praise the winners.

The Big issue is Florida and the SEC beat ESPN sports, Kirk Hirbstreit, and other so called
non biased sports announcers and also silenced the Michigan coach and fans.

Good Luck Gators and we will see you in Jacksonville next season. GO SEC!

Does it really fucking matter. We just one the NC game.
We got the rings and trophy to prove it. Why even worry about this.
Hell, I know I wouldn’t vote for UGA if they were the greatest Fucking
    team in the world.

    hey OmegaChick-
we don’t need no stinkin’ resolution…we are Gator Nation with or without the approval of the esteemed gentleman from the great state of Georgia….
and by the way, every time i wear jean shorts to Jacksonville, Georgia loses. I can give up the GQ look for that any day!!!!
Keep up the fashion show, Dawgs, and we’ll keep playing football.

My mater,UGA. My team, THE DAWGS. My blood, RED AND BLACK. My hatred, UF. The best athletic program in the country to date, UF. There is no question! Georgia/SEC fans, its time to take our hats off to the best football team (who represented our conference)in the nation. Yet, every dawg will have his day, Go DAWGS!

All these poodle fans saying gators are crying would be the first to bitch if it were the other way around. Jack is a poor sport, obviously, and while he isn’t a sportsman, he is a representative of the State of Georgia and therefore a role model of sorts. That was a childish jab from a fan of a team that is 2-15 versus their most hated rival. The classy move would have been to just go along with the resolution and not act like the rest of the inbred, back-asswards poodle nation that seems to be the majority of UGA respondents to this article.

“E-mail his staff, it really works”?

Obviously, you’ve never worked in a Congressman’s office.
It was just a joke for Jacko to do this; the negative reaction is amazing.
You guys shouldn’t be so serial, even have you “just one the NC game.

Everyone knows that Florida fans are white trash. I don’t give a damn if Florida is the best team in the country in all sports. I don’t wear jean shorts, and I’m not some sorryass Gator fan. Your football team may win every game for the next decade, but it will not change the fact that your average Florida fan is either a chachy, spiked-hair douchebag or a total piece of crap who loves to show his red to hi. Cheers to you Gator fans; you can hang your national championship banner at the gas station, tireyard, or tanning bed where you work for the next year. Good luck with your trailer parks.
