You know that scene in Can't Buy Me Love where Mr. Grey's Anatomy hurls the bag of poop at the front door of his best buddy? As he fires it, softball-style, you get the sense that if it sticks, it's awesome. And if it slides down ... well, still pretty cool.
This is what Mr. Peter Vecsey of the New York Post often does. I'm not ripping him for it - rather, I enjoy it. Each Sunday, following church and a pit-stop at Starbucks, I hunker down at the computer and the first stop is Peter Vecsey's mud-slinging, helter-skelter, must-read NBA column.
This morning, Vecsey says the Nets are on the verge of dealing Jason Kidd - something I've been saying for months now - to possibly the Lakers or Cavaliers. For the die-hard Kidd fans in the house, perhaps this video of Kidd doing his best version of Dominique Wilkins - in high school, natch - will assuage your tender heart.
A couple weeks ago, I revealed the Lakers had offered a couple first-round draft picks and several expiring contracts for Kidd. Chris Mihm, Aaron McKie, etc., and Jordan Farmar were mentioned.
The bidding isn't limited to L.A. I have it on excellent authority the Cavaliers - desperate to relieve LeBron James of his playmaking-for-others-and-himself obligation, and transform him into an open court, post-up receiver - called the Nets to voice their fondness for Kidd.
Obviously, if Kidd goes, Carter must be dispatched, too. Finding a team to assume his free agent-in-waiting risk is a problem, no doubt. It'd almost have to be a team convinced his prized presence can place it on a championship pedestal, or near enough to it to compete with the Mavericks, Suns, Spurs, Rockets, Pistons, Jazz, Lakers (with Kidd) and healthy Heat. The Magic may fit that profile. Staggering of late, having lost six of ten, management may consider Carter exactly the offensive force it needs to compliment Dwight Howard. No question they'd torture any and all defensive concepts.
This news may force a few New Jersey fans to look for solace in a leap off the George Washington Bridge (unless you're a Marcus Williams fan, like I am). Kidd's on-again, off-again trade status must be maddening for Nets fans, but Richard Jefferson's ankle issues, coupled with Toronto's winning record, probably will wind up being the biggest factors in shipping Kidd and VC out of town (not to mention Kidd's age and VC's free agent ability). But fear not - rebuilding is always fun!

George Karl already called the Lakers the best passing team in the league (when everyone is healthy). Imagine a line up with Walton, Kidd, Kobe, and Lamar as the core. Those guys all are great playmakers. But I doubt Kidd will end up in L.A. It will be tough for the Lakers to match salaries. And with both teams over the cap, that's the only way to make the thing work.

Bring Kidd to the Lakers. We allready have the absolute best player in the game. But Kobe needs help. With Kidd the Lakers will go back to the top where they belong. After all they are the greatest basketball team in history.
