Blazers GM denies rumors: "We're not making any trades"

Don't listen to the trade rumors being floated these days involving the Portland Trail Blazers. They are false.

So says Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard, who on Tuesday shot down the latest scenarios offered by ESPN's Ric Bucher: Joel Przybilla to the Los Angeles Clippers for Sam Cassell and Jarrett Jack and another player to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Larry Hughes.

"We're not making any trades,'' Pritchard said Tuesday afternoon. "I mean, why? What benefit is there? If I did a trade right now that didn't pan out, I would be crucified. What would be my motivation to trade — we have a good young team that likes each other and is playing well.''

Why on earth would a red-hot young team like Portland make silly trades like those? They've exceeded expectations already this year, have some cap space this off-season, and get Oden back next year to boot. I'd just stay put.

finals are a stretch this year. top 5 in the west too good - whoever comes out of the west will have to knock off 2 or 3 exceptional teams to get there. but the future could not be brighter for the blazers. oddly enough i think the oden injury will work out very well for his career in the long run and for the team. now instead of being expected to come in and save the team from being terrible, next year he will have to come in and earn his spot on a team thats already very good and still on the rise. there will still be high expectations for oden but some of the monumental pressure will be off. use the cap room on rudy fernandez possibly coming over from spain (if the buyout with joventut works out) or a decent free agent and this team is a force next year.

Why would you want to break -up a team that is playing well.... it's not like it is the Nets or Knicks who need to break-up their teams!

as a cavs fan, we would owe the blazers our lives if they wanted to take larry hughes off of our hands. the city of cleveland would consider that the trade of the century. getting a good young guard for an overpaid dud with the worst shot selection in the nba would be the best thing danny ferry has done since taking over.

Who makes up these "rumors"? Doug Collins? On a brighter note I have bought a bus and will be driving the streets looking for Robin L and the like to run down with it.

of course they aren't going to make a trade. There was never even any rumors to begin with. The reporters are just trying to find a story. If it ain't broken don't fix it. And right now, the Blazers are far from broken.

why would anyone want an old alien (Cassell) to ruin their young players??? Alien er Cassell is all about himself. He should have been swept out with the Star Wars aliens. Jack needs to stay put, all is well in Blazerland.

Jarrett Jack AND another player for Larry Hughes? That would be an insane trade, and Pritchard should be crucified if he made that one.
Sam I am would bring them a veteran, but do they want to mess with the good chemistry they have now (not that Sam would be a bad thing for the chemistry). I agree, stand pat.

Chemistry can go up in smoke very quickly. Get titles when you can get them. If you can trade to make yourself better NOW, you do it.

They gotta be crazy to trade ANYBODY from that team. The Portland TrailBlazers are a great team, much like Celtics and Suns, they have a bunch of players who are not at all selfish. And plus, when Oden come back? Wow, they will be hard to stop. They are going to the playoffs this year, don't know if they'll get past the Spurs, Dallas, and Suns or Lakers, but I do believe they'll be ready next year with Oden to take it all the way.
