Best Philly Hoagie Shop?

Now that there is a thread about cheesesteaks and competitive eating is recognized on the Yard, what is everybody's favorite hoagie shop/sandwich? Primo's/Slacks/Lees?

I've tried them all and have the gut to prove it and to me nothing beats the Primo's. Their seeded bread is unreal and they have the Diablo line which makes their sandwiches spicy enough for my liking. Their Bada Boom sandwich features a hot chicken cutlet, cheddar cheese, sprinkled cayenne pepper and a foot long spicy pepper that gets buried in the bread.

Since I know the owners, and spent a couple Summers working there, I've got to go with Lee's, although I've never had Primos. Someone needs to take me there the next time I'm back in Philly. Lee's Italian is one of my favorite sandwiches of all-time. I love the bread, the ample portion of processed cold cuts, the dollops of mayo, mustard and oil, all topped with the wet hot peppers that for some idiotic reason you cannot get in Cali. I loved cooking up my own food when I was working there. Sometimes I would just take a slice of provolone and salami, throw them on the grill for 2 seconds, and then scarf it down. PS: All the Sub chains elsewhere in the world are completely bush league. Subway especially, with their pathetic portions of meat.

This is going to be crazy to say - the last summer you worked at Lee's was 12 or 13 years ago. AI was still a Georgetown Hoya and Donavan McNabb was a young Orangeman.

I mention this because at that time, Lee's had a huge stronghold over the sandwich business. Since then, many competitors have emerged and Lee's hasn't exactly kept up. Last year, they sold their Center City location to Jimmy Johns. Anyone who goes to Jimmy Johns in Philly should just be served salad by hand.

i'm going to butcher the name...but tallutos (sp?) makes an amazing italian hoagie. (the real kind with italian meets). the bread is crazy good.

Lee's is good - real good. I've never been to Tallutos. The difference between Primo's and Lee's lies only within the creativity of the owners as far as the range of sandwiches (and the seeded friggin bread). When you live in Philly, you never want to eat at Quiznos or Subway again in your life.

The hoagie food truck outside my crackhead-infested dorm at Temple was better than any chain store I've ever been to.

I'm sheltered. I live out on the Left Coast, and have never made my way to Rocky's stomping grounds. But when Chuck puts me in his Fave Fives, and flies me out there, I'll hit up Primos on your good authority.

You guys have it where it counts - chinese food, mexican food, and nice people.

Subway and Quiznos shouldn't even be considered food. Of the three choices you offered I have to go with Primos( I haven't sampled the other 2). But I'll take over the crick to the Jersey side to three of my favs. Sicilian Deli in Woodbury Hts.(seeded roll like Sarcone's) creative toppings, Pal Joeys in Sewell( seeded roll ) awesome diablo selection, and Carmens in Bellmawr ( soft Amoroso style roll) but overloaded with fresh meat. All 3 make sandwiches to order. Fresh all the time.

I'll have to look these places up for perhaps a good stopping point when returning from an AC trip.
