The 2014 NFL Playoffs start today with the Wild Card round. Got some good math-ups this weekend so lets preview them.
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Indianapolis Colts: What a great come back year it was for Kansas City. From a 2-14 team to a 11-5 playoff team with a new Head Coach in Andy Reid and new QB in Alex Smith. The defense also improved big time for the Kansas City Chiefs. They started the year out 9-0. But after starting 9-0 they went 2-5 in their last seven games. Including a loss to the Indianapolis Colts two weeks ago. The Colts beat up the Chiefs in Kansas 23-7. The Colts are a on a role and I believe that role will continue. The Colts are at home and have proven to be a tough team while at home. The defensive line I think will own the offensive line of the Chiefs. The Chiefs have been having a touch time protecting Alex Smith and they will continue to struggle. Their miracle run will end tonight. The Colts also have a good offense led by Andrew Luck. The colts will beat the Chiefs once again and Andrew Luck will finally get his first Playoff win. Prediction: Colts win 23-14
San Diego Chargers vs. Cincinnati Bengals: This is a pretty interesting match-up. The Bengals are in the Playoffs for the 3rd straight year. While the Chargers are back into the playoffs for the first time in 4 years. The Chargers have been on a roll. Their QB Phillip Rivers has been great and did what he needed to do and lead his team back into the playoffs. But their role will end tomorrow. The Bengals have had a great year. Dalton is taking more risks throwing the ball down the field and him and AJ Green still have a great connection. Plus they have a pretty decent running game with Gio Bernard and Benjarvus Green-Ellis. This game will be outdoors in Cincinnati and the forecast or weather for this game will be 20-30 degrees and very cold. Dalton has proven to be pretty good in the cold while Rivers usually plays in warm weather in San Diego and I think will struggle in the cold. As long as Dalton does not throw 4 Int's like last week against the Ravens, he should be fine and the Bengals should win this game. For the first time in many years, the Bengals will win a Playoff game. Prediction: Bengals win 31-17.
New Orleans Saints vs. Philadelphia Eagles: It is great to see both teams back in the Playoffs. Sean Payton was back as Head Coach for the Saints and nothing was stopping them from making the Playoffs. The Eagles, well they hired Chip Kelly as their new head coach last year, and changed their starting QB from Michael Vick to Nick Foles midway through the ring and just like that they are back into the Playoffs. This is going to be a good game for sure. But I think the Eagles have an advantage and I think the reason is pretty obvious. They are at home, and the Saints are on the road. The Saints are not that good of a team on the road. In their franchise history in the playoffs, they are 0-4 on the road and this year in the regular season, they where 3-5 on the road. Basically all 5 of their losses this year came on the road. They are just a complete different team when they are not in their big Super Dome. The Eagles are 4-4 at home, so not much better than the Saints record on the road but another big factor is weather. The temperature for the game will be 24-25 degrees with light rain and a chance of snow. Drew Brees is not that good when it comes to cold weather and is going to also have a tough time with defensive line of the Eagles. The Philly defense has definetly improved over the last few weeks. They will practically be throwing snow ball at Brees and the Saints and it will be a long and cold night for the Saints. The Eagles have shown to play well in the cold and at home and are gonna get their first playoff win in 5 years and Nick Foles will show people why the Eagles went with him as the starting QB. Prediction: Eagles win 28-20
San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers: As you all have heard all week, the game is going to be like the famous " Ice Bowl " back in 1967. The temperature of the " Ice Bowl " was 15 degrees below zero. The projected temperature for this game is between 5-10 degrees below zero with a strong wind chill and the temperature will only drop even more as the game goes on. Now because of the absolute freezing cold weather, there probably won't be a lot of passing going on in this game. Just a lot of running, and to me the 49ers have an advantage with a better run game with Frank Gore and their QB Colin Kaepernick. Now the Green Bay running game has improved since last year with rookie Eddie Lacy but still not better than the 49ers run game. Another factor is which QB between Aaron Rodgers and Colin Kaepernick is a better runner and to me it's Kaepernick. He shredded this Packer defense last year in the playoffs with 181 rushing yard and 2 touchdowns. He might have to run the ball a few times with the cold weather and should be successful. Because I don't think the packers have a good enough defense to stop Kaepernick or Frank Gore. The 49ers winning streak against the packers will continue with a big win tomorrow. Prediction: 49ers win 25-17
Enjoy the first round of the playoffs everybody and Happy New Year.
