UFC on FOX Review
UFC on FOX featuring Henderson vs. Diaz is finally in the MMA history books. I promised you people that the fights would be good and they were indeed good fights. Lets review the main card fights.
Henderson def Diaz by 5 round Unanimous Decision: Now I made a bold prediction saying that Diaz would Knock Henderson Out and win the title. Well I think I have now learned my lesson. Never ever underestimate the standup and ground game of Ben Henderson. He is as tough as they come. He did his film work on Nate. He punished Diaz for 5 rounds with leg kicks, punches and vicious ground and pound. Nate just could not get any offense going. And instead of going for the miracle knockout and the end of the fight he just showboats and acts like an idiot. He did the same thing in the 3rd round and got knocked down. I remember yelling at the TV saying " put your hands up and stop showboating idiot." And I hope he also learned his lesson. Never show boat in Ben's face because you will get knocked down. All in all it was an ok fight. Wished there had been alittle more action.
Gustafsson def Rua by 3 round Unanimous Decision: Now this bold prediction that i made actually came true. Believe it or not Alexander Gustafsson has beaten one of the best light Heavyweight fighter in the world. He used his reach and his takedowns to win this fight. But Rua did everything in his power to win the fight. He had a heel hook in the first round and rocked him in the first round as well with big punches. But like I said in the preview. Rua can not handle guys with a longer reach than him. And that was the big factor in this fight. The reach advantage Alexander had. With the win Dana White promised that Alexander will be next in line for a title shot against Jon Jones or Chael Sonnen, who Jon faces in April.
Macdonald def BJ Penn by 3 round Unanimous Decision: Both guys went right at each other early and made it a good fight. BJ got some good shots in early but Rory landed a big elbow late in the round that rocked BJ and in my opinion that changed the fight. That was the turning point for Rory. He dominated BJ in the 2nd and 3rd round. Now in the 3rd you may have noticed that Rory started showboating a little bit. Now I did not really like that. But apparently everybody is so mad about Rory showboating and no one is mad at Diaz. Everybody booed and got pissed off at Rory. Well people the fighter you should really be booing is Nate. Yeah Rory showboated but he was WINNING the fight and BJ did not do anything about it. Unlike Diaz, who showboated and looked like an idiot. When he really should have been going for it and trying to win the fight and unlike BJ, Ben responded to the showboating by Knocking Nate Diaz down to the ground. You know sometimes I think fans favor a guy too much and I think they need to really watch these fight and really stop hating on some talented fighters. As for BJ, I think it is finally time for him to retire. You are a great fighter and champion and you have nothing left to prove. Thank you for all the memories BJ.
Matt Brown def Mike Swick by Knockout in round 2: Brown started off the fight real well. He almost had Mike beat in the first round with a triangle choke and a darce choke. But Swick did a great job getting out of those submissions. Brown came out for the 2nd round like a man possessed. And he got the Knockout punch early in the 2nd round. Now for some reason this did not get K.O. of the night. Well speaking of K.O. of the night, lets look at the bonus awards.
Submission of the night: Scott Jorgensen over John Albert with a rear naked choke on the prelim card.
Knockout of the night: Yves Edwards over Jeremy Stephans on the prelim card.
Fight of the night: Scott Jorgensen vs. John Albert on the prelim card.
Wow. All bonus awards came from the prelim card. Strange right.
Next event for the UFC: TUF 16 Finale this Saturday on FX. Main Event fight will be a Heavyweight bout between Roy Nelson vs. Matt Mitrione.
