As we look to begin 2013 on a high note, we have a few new campaigns kicking off to keep up the great momentum we have coming out of 2012. Be on lookout for new programs from Coors Light, Ford F150, DiGiorno, and Oscar Mayer. That being said, familiar direct campaigns from 2012 will continue in the New Year, including Prilosec, TicketsNow, Chevy, Pizza Hut, and Burger King. Payments for October should have been sent out during the first week of January. If you haven’t provided payment, or if you believe you should have been paid but have not yet received payment, please contact publishers@yardbarker.com.

Also, please remember that as of June 2012 payments, Fox has decided to honor the clause of your contract regarding minimum payments. The threshold for payment is $50. Practically speaking, this means that if your earnings for an individual period were below $50, Fox will not release payment until your cumulative unpaid earnings cross the threshold of $50. At this point, payment for all unpaid periods will be released.

As we look to close out the year strong, a number of long-running NFL and college campaigns will be continuing through December. This includes programs from Chevy, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Coca Cola, Prilosec OTC, and AT&T. Multi-month campaigns from Bud Light, Samsung, RAM, Nissan, and Brother also continue on in December. Want more promotion?

Use sentence case capitalization when writing headlines. What is sentence case capitalization? The term “sentence case” refers to the capitalization strategy employed when writing your normal, everyday sentence. Proper names and the first word of every headline are capitalized. All other words begin with a lowercase letter. Here are two examples:

Sentence case capitalization

Watch Robert Griffin III complete an 80-yard touchdown pass

The headline that uses sentence case capitalization will receive a higher score in our feed algorithms, and subsequently, have a better chance at promotion in automated feeds.

Also, keep in mind that short headline (under five words) will result in your articles being scored lower, as those sites whose articles display fewer content in their RSS feeds. If your articles are only sending out headlines and very little content through your RSS feed, the feed algorithm will penalize the article for short content.

FOX Fantasy Football 

With Olympics ending this week, FOXSports.com will be switching gears to football coverage. One of the main priorities is promotion of FOX Fantasy Football, so they are asking bloggers to set up their own Fantasy Football leagues on FOXSports.com and encouraging readers to sign up and play in their league. This should give you an opportunity to engage with your readers, as well as support our FOX Fantasy Football game.

Bloggers who participate will be eligible to win an exclusive FOX Sports promotional package. The promotional package includes up to 10MMad impressions promoting your blog across the FOX Sports Digital Network. FOX Sports will also design the ads for you.

Olympics Content

As we move from the U.S. Olympic Trials and head into the final stretch before the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, we’ve been producing original content on our Medal Detector blog: http://olympics.yardbarker.com.

Management Changes at Yardbarker

Effective last month, Jack Kloster is assuming duties as Yardbarker’s new General Manager. Jack was one of the co-founders of Yardbarker, and has been a part of the core team running the business both before and since the FOX Sports acquisition. As part of the transition, Pete Vlastelica is stepping down as GM of the business, and is taking a new role as Senior VP of Product Strategy for FOX Sports Digital. We think this new role for Pete represents both a validation of the success of Yardbarker and an opportunity for Yardbarker bloggers to be better represented within the FOX Sports organization.
