Well folks, half of the 2010 NLL season is officially in the books for the Toronto Rock! All I can say is that I am thrilled with our start. 6-2 is a pretty good start and 4-0 at home is even better! It's good to be back in the ACC!
Last weekend, we gave it to Edmonton at home on Friday and lost a nail biter to a very good Calgary team, in Calgary on Sunday. A bittersweet weekend. Edmonton did not give us there best. They are a much different team from last year and simply had an off night, while everything we did seemed to work....just one of those nights. We travel there again on Sunday of this week and I can assure you a very good game at Rexall Place.
In Calgary, we saw why they are the defending champs! A very good, deep, athletic, experienced team that got great goaltending. They are the champs for a reason, and a very good measuring stick for our young team. We saw first hand what it is going to take to be included in the upper echelon of this league and we have full intentions on giving them a better go when they come back to visit us at the ACC in April. A tough, but well learned experience.
Like I said earlier, we travel again out West to Edmonton for a Sunday afternoon rematch. This should be a really good game, so for those of you who live in Canada be sure to pick the game up on TSN 2. Lets help get Rock Lacrosse back to where it needs to be.
Before I leave you, I thought I'd get your opinion on something. I am just watching a show comparing the difference between the use of performance enhancing drugs and performance enhancing technology. New suits, new blades, new skies ect....What do you think? Is this a worthwhile argument or not? My thoughts......well the key to sport is an even playing field. Both of these seem to be uneven and both seem to be uncontrollable. So what are we to do? Let the athletes loose and enjoy the ride, or continue cracking down and monitoring as best we can? I guess I'll have to wait until next week have my argument, because I am really not sure.
I am off for the night, and will check in again next week keeping you posted on how we did in Edmonton. Before I leave you, I will add that I am reading Theo Fleury's book "Playing with Fire" and I simply cannot put it down!! What an interesting read.
See you all next week,
