Everybody's Working for the Weekend!
This past weekend it was nice to return to Philadelphia specifically to host my kids football clinic. It was nice to be in South Jersey. It was nice to see familiar faces. It was nice to have teammates - former and current - come our and help. And yes, It was nice to see some members of the media. But most of all it was nice to see the smiles on the faces of all the kids. That what makes it all worthwhile.
I think the media did a great job of portraying how much fun and how excited the kids were. They also did a nice job of publicizing the NFL players in attendance. Most of them explained the mission of the Donovan McNabb Fund - how in general we raise money for the American Diabetes Association but that this year's clinic was raising money for the new Virtua hospital in Voorhees, NJ, set to open in the Spring of 2011.
However what always seems to get lost publicly is the support that goes into putting on an event like this. I'll do role call.....
Of course, an event of this magnitude cannot take place without the help of the many volunteers and sponsors. That starts with Virtua Hospital and the Virtua Foundation partnering with us. The NFL players received the press but we could not have coached 325 kids without the help of the athletes from Temple, and the coaches from Cherokee HS, Camden Catholic, the Marlton Rec League, and our friends from NASA.
I can't say enough about Company 20, the hospitality and marketing company hired with running the event. I've worked with them for 7 years now and they always manage to run a first-class event. I must thank Evesham Township Mayor Randy Brown and his staff for allowing us to use their beautiful, brand new state-of-the-art facility. I have to thank all the sponsors that provided financial and in-kind support. They are: Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, Northern Trust, EA Sports, Modell's, Powerade and Coca-Cola, Campbell's, Jay Roberts Jewelers, 97.5 the Fanatic, Philadelphia Inquirer, USA Football, US Army, Papa Johns, Chick-Fil-A, Aloft Mt. Laurel, Marriott, Family Limo, and Packaging Graphics.
I must give special recognition to Sonny DiCrecchio and the Philadelphia Regional Produce Market; they not only have supported my clinic year in and year out but have supported many of the events hosted by my foundation.
Moving forward I hope to have that continued support from sponsors, teammates, teams, communities, volunteers, and the media so we can host more kids and try to make a difference in their lives.
On a final note, Saturday night's White Party for the adults was a success as well. I must give a big shout out to M&S Events Group, Octo, DJ Biz Markie, and all the people that attended. That money raised helps support the goals of the DM5 Fund including the Kids Clinic.

Donovan...we miss you here in Philly no matter how much critics and some stupid/oblivious fans say we don't. I had the pleasure of talking to you a couple years ago about your basketball career and it made me like you as a person even more then I did before. If you wanted to read the article here is the link: http://www.hoopstvonline.com/news/mcnabbinterview.html
It still stands as one of the brightest moments of my career as a journalist. I love your work ethic and it's something which I try to follow in my own life. No matter what injury, what criticism, or what obstacle came your way you were always ready to battle it head on and become a better person/teammate because of it. I wish you the best of luck in Washington and I'm planning to go to either the Eagles vs. Redskins at home or away next season. My e-mail is jeffmcmenamin@temple.edu if you wanted to reply to this post. Best of luck next season. -

its nice what you're doing for the kids donovan, there is nothing more important then giving back to people who are less fortunate and more importantly, nothing more important than showing kids love...you do an awesome job of that and you always have...but do you really have to take a shot at the media in the first paragraph of this article??? ("and yes, it was nice to see "SOME MEMBERS" of the media") you need psych therapy man !!! shanahan needs to give you a hug !!!

Donnie, I read something today that made me think of you. IF I KNEW YOU AND YOU KNEW ME, IF BOTH OF US COULD CLEARLY SEE, AND WITH AN INNER SIGHT DIVINE, THE MEANING OF YOUR HEART AND MINE, I'M SURE THAT WE WOULD DIFFER LESS, AND CLASP OUR HANDS IN FRIENDLINESS, OUR THOUGHTS WOULD PLEASANTLY AGREE IF I KNEW YOU AND YOU KNEW ME :)

Donnie, about a week ago today, I got the opportunity to watch the highlights of your first preseason game. Your ability to adapt to new surroundings is impressive. However, I recognized in the way that you play a knowledge and a love for the game that that cannot be ignored. This recognition is no doubt a gift from our Creator. So today I offer you a little encouragement for tonight's game. I stumbled upon this piece a few hours ago: "Oh, how skillful grows the hand that obeyeth Love's command! It is the heart, and not the brain, that to the highest doth attain, and he who followeth Love's behest far excelleth all the rest." I thought of you when I read this because I know that you are intelligent but your brain comes in second to your heart :)

Donnie, I hope that your ankle feels better. I could hardly watch the footage of the incident. However, I would like to share a story with you and your fans that I like to call "The Optimistic Frog". Two frogs fell into a deep cream bowl, One was an optimistic soul. But the other took a gloomy view; "we shall drown." he cried without more ado. So, with a last despairing cry, He flung up his legs and said, "Goodbye." The other frog, with a merry grin, said, "I can't get out, but I won't give in. I'll swim around till my strength is spent, Then I will die with more content." Bravely he swam till, it would seem, his struggles began to churn the cream. On top of the cream at last he popped, the bowl did not defeat him, he gradually rose to its top. He kept swimming and swimming, he did not stop. He conquered the bowl and out of it, he easily hopped. What of the moral? 'Tis easily found! If you can't hop, keep swimming around: )

Congratulations on your first regular season win with the Washington Redskins. I read this today and thought of you.- Our God, He sees thee. Shine thy best. Fling up thy balls of gold. Till every cubit play with thee and every crescent hold. Elate the acre at your feet. Run at your every whim. Gain yardage through the pass and rush. Run your race with Him.

Hi Dmac, I will always be an Eagles fan, but you a greatly missed. I was watching NFL network this weekend and they were talking about QB and WR combos and it just drives me batty to know that the Eagles organization didn't even give you the time to realize your ability to bring a lombardi trophy hime to Philly after they finally brought in some talent in the receiving core. Troy Aikman had Michael Irwin, Brady has Moss, Peyton had Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, Montana had Jerry Rice, etc. etc. I don't know how they expected you to succeed with 2nd rate receivers for a majority of your career and they let you go after DeSean and Maclin are finally assimilated into pro football. You've always been a good sport and carried yourself with pouse. I wish you the best in Washington and I hope they give you the recognition and appreciation you deserve.
