With the July evaluation periods upon there is no better time than now to update the new rankings at Scout.com.

Last week the 2013 rankings were released, with Jabari Parker holding on to the No. 1 spot. Julius Randle checked in at No. 2, Aaron Gordon at No. 3, Nerlens Noel at No. 4 and Chris Walker rounded out the top five.

Tuesday morning we released our new 2012 rankings and there's a new name at the top.

Shabazz Muhammad took over the No. 1 spot, passing Andre Drummond and Isaiah Austin. Muhammad has been consistently more dominant than any player in the country and he seems to get better every time out.

Anthony Bennett was among the biggest movers in the new 2012 rankings. He jumped 55 spots to No. 11 overall.

Led by Jabari Parker, who took home the tournament MVP, and Aaron Gordon USA won the Fiba Americas U16's championship.

USA rolled through the tournament winning by 21 or more in every game. The knocked off Argentina in the championship 104-64.

Parker averaged 15.4 points and 6.4 per game. Gordon surged as the event went on and went for 17 points, 11.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists through their five games.

Jahlil Okafor played a major role in the teams success, as he anchored the middle and averaged 14.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per contest.

The U16 squad had used a combination of Larry Austin, Tyus Jones and Conner Frankamp to handle the ball. They combined for 68 assists. Jones had the most with 28 per game.

One of the top events of the year -- NBA Camp -- will begin on Thursday.

The action tips off Thursday morning and will run through Saturday night on University of Virginia's campus in Charlottesville (Va.). There will be two game sessions each day and the tournament on Saturday.

Transfers in the news

It’s been a relatively quiet week in the world of high school basketball recruiting. There has a been a handful of commitments (listed below), but there weren’t any more commitments.

In fact the biggest news came by way of transfers. Ryan Harrow to Kentucky was arguably the top transfer news of the week. With the lack point guards, picking up Harrow was a exactly what the Cats needed to do.

Now full attention has turned to Juwan Staten, who has left Dayton. A former four-star and top 100 prospect, Staten is certainly a talent and a guy that led the A-10 in assists at 5.4 per contest. Toss in 8.5 points and 2.1 rebounds and he had a solid season at Dayton.

At this point four schools – Texas, Louisville, South Carolina and Miami – have managed to get out in front for the talented guard. He’s set to visit Louisville on Tuesday, then take a trip to Miami the very next day.

Daniels, Ware still undecided

There are now only three top 100 prospects available – DeAndre Daniels, Joseph Uchebu and Kevin Ware. Daniels and Ware are still figuring out their recruitments, while Uchebu is set to go to JUCO per a pair of sources.

Here’s where things stand with Daniels & Ware:

Daniels: The up and downs continue with Daniels. He was set to decide last week and then that was put to a halt … again. Since Daniels missed the signing period we may not find out where he’s headed to school until he shows up on somebody’s campus. Texas and Kansas seem to be the most talked about names, but word is Daniels may be looking around again.

Ware: After parting ways with Central Florida, Georgia and Louisville quickly became the two to beat for Ware. Ware has already taken a trip to Athens and he’s set to visit Louisville on Sunday for an official visit. Other schools have attempted to get involved, but from the sounds of it the Cardinals and the Bulldogs are the two he will choose from. As far as I know there isn’t a timetable on his college decision.

Impressive field for Best Buy

A new event has been added to the Memorial Day weekend schedule. Mike Fox has put together an impressive field this time around at the Chicago Best Buy tournament.

While all of the Nike teams will be in Los Angeles for the EYBL, Indiana Elite, Florida Rams, Nashville Celtics, Texas Pro, Houston Hoopstars, Kansas Pray and Play, TP Elite, SYF Players, Wisconsin Swing, Michigan Mustangs and Ohio Basketball Club will all be in Chicago.

Among the top prospects expected at the Chicago Best Buy are Isaiah Austin, Joell James, Malik Price-Martin, Yogi Ferrell, Jeremy Hollowell, Emanuel Mudiay, Cameron Ridley, Perry Ellis, Deonte Burton, Glenn Robinson Jr. and Luke Fischer. Action tips off Friday evening, but the super pools don’t tip off until early Saturday morning at the Joy of the Game facility in Deerfield (Ill.).

Daniels saga drags on

DeAndre Daniels still hasn’t come to a decision.

While most believe he’ll eventually select Texas, Daniels and his father are still holding out.

It has been an interesting year for Daniels, as he’s been rumored to be close to committing Kentucky, Kansas, Duke and now Texas at different points in the year.

To top it off he thought about going in the 2010 class. Then possibly at the semester break. Now he’s slipped passed the signing period and isn’t bound to going anywhere.

Having missed the signing period, we may not know Daniels true decision until his shows up on a college campus and enrolls. Outside of Texas, Kansas is the other school still in the mix.

Alabama’s big weekend

It was good to be Anthony Grant this week.

The Alabama head coach kept Trevor Lacey, Scout.com’s No. 59 prospect, home and added him to an already solid class that includes Levi Randolph, Rodney Cooper and Moussa Gueye.

Then Friday morning news broke that Retin Omojoh will also join their 2011 class. He’s a 6-foot-1, 205-pound lead guard out of Belgium.

It was clear the goal was to add some scorers to their 2011 class, and they did just that. Randolph is a highly regarded two-guard that can score it at a high rate, while Lacey is known for his ability to shoot the basket.

Throw in Cooper, who had a very good senior year, and the Crimson Tide have a deep back court for years to come.

Maryland starts strong

Mark Turgeon is off to a strong start.

Within days of being named the head coach at Maryland, Turgeon picked up an underrated recruit – Seth Allen – out of the 2012 class, secured local ties by rounding out his staff and kept Nick Faust in the program.

Turgeon was on Allen and Texas A&M and had recently evaluated him during the last period. Although he’s not known nationally, by taking a quick look at this video it’s clear he has some talent.

For every coach the staff is important, and for Turgeon securing a staff that could recruit the Baltimore/D.C. area was extremely important.

Dalonte Hill has the connections with the DC Assault program and others in the area, while Bino Ranson is tied in, in Baltimore. With these two guys on board the Terps won’t have any issues recruiting locally.

To top it all off, Maryland was able to keep Nick Faust on board. He had originally signed with the Terps, but had asked for a release when Gary Williams left the program.

However, Faust, who was recruited by Ranson, met with the new staff and opted to stay home.

Arguably the most interesting prospect in the 2013 class is Baltimore native Aquille Carr.

A lightning quick and freaky athletic guard, Carr electrifies crowds because of his raw ability and the fact that he stands 5-foot-6.

Currently Carr is not ranked by Scout.com, nor Rivals.com or ESPN. But he's certainly drawn attention from people across the country and has become a highlight tape sensation.

On Wednesday morning news broke from Cameron Smith, of Yahoo Sports, that Lottomatica Virtus Roma offered Carr a $750,000 contract to play for their Italian club. This is the same club that had Brandon Jennings for a year.

An offer of that magnitude is hard to believe for a junior in high school. However, Carr confirmed it to Scout Focus' Joe Davis in a video and his high school coach confirmed it to Smith.

What makes the offer even more difficult to comprehend is the amount of varying opinions on Carr.

He's an impressive talent and he's certainly fun to watch, as their isn't a faster guard in high school basketball and his vertical is ridiculous for a guy his size. He's also quite the scorer, despite not being known for his shooting ability.

On the other hand, Carr stands just 5-foot-6 and plays much more like a shooting guard than a point guard. He's wired to score and he has that mentality. He also tends to get a wild at times and is somewhat turnover prone.

So there's pluses and minuses with a prospect like Carr.

But with this news the real question is whether Carr, 17, can legitimately be effective at that size against grown men in Italy?

Hoop Group has a strong slate of events coming up.

With nearly 10 events from end of June until August 7th, there is plenty of opportunities for potential prospects to develop a reputation with college coaches and scouts.

Also new this year is their Future All American Camp which is available to players going into the 5th grade through 10th grade.

The past three MVP's for the Elite Camp Session 1 have been Maurice Harkless (St. John's) , Melsahn Basabe (Iowa) and Kyrie Irving (Duke).

“Hoop Group Elite Camps are dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of high school basketball players,” said Chad Babel, Director of Hoop Group Elite. “Each session is intended for the serious player who aspires to take his game to the next level. I am looking forward to bringing players from all over the Country back to Albright College this summer and our 7 Air Conditioned Indoor Courts.”

Reebok camp is back. .

After a year hiatus, Pat Coombs and company at Reebok are set to run the Reebok Breakout Challenge during the first week of the July evaluation period.

Leading up to the camp they will hold 14 Headliner camps, where prospects can earn invites to the main camp. Half of the invites will come from the Headliner events, with the other half being selected.

Reebok's goal is to honor the event where John Wall was discovered. He was an unknown, unranked player from North Carolina with virtually no reputation.

After driving 18 hours to try out and eventually make the Reebok All-American Camp, Wall's reputation grew across the high school basketball seen. The rest is history, as Wall eventually became the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft.

Reebok's goal is to bring in a number of worthy prospects and give them a chance to take a similar path as Wall.
