Nashville is getting into deep trouble in the hyper-competitive Western Conference.
The Predators have won just two of seven games since Nov. 17. Goaltender Pekka Rinne struggled during that span, allowing back-up Anders Lindback to gain more playing time.
But Lindback sprung a leak as the Preds fell to Buffalo 3-2 on their home ice.
“Really, we made probably six mistakes, and three of them ended up in our net,” coach Barry Trotz told reporters. “We did everything but win the game.”
Indeed, Nashville outshot Buffalo 34-14 in the defeat. The Preds also won 63 percent of the faceoffs.
And still they lost.
The team could get more bad news on the suspension front. Agitator Jordin Tootoo faces possible NHL sanctions for taking a run at Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller. Tootoo had played some of his best hockey of late, scoring six points in six games.
On the other hand, Sergei Kostitsyn produced just three assists during an 11-game span before suffering an “upper body” injury. Trotz didn’t seem to be sweating a return date for him.
“Don’t know and don’t care right now. I just care about tonight,” he told the Tennesseean.
