Roberto Luongo enjoyed his time in South Florida. He has star value in that market.
So it’s only natural that the rumor mill would churn out a lot of Luongo-to-the-Panthers speculation. If Vancouver could add goaltending prospect Jacob Markstrom for Luongo – gaining a safety net under Cory Schneider – then that could be a win-win deal for these teams.
Panthers GM Dale Tallon is known for making bold moves, so nobody would be surprised if he won the Luongo sweepstakes.
The Lightning, Bruins, Maple Leagues and Blue Jackets are also seeking new goaltenders. Tampa Bay seems to be a great fit for young Kings netminder Jonathan Bernier, currently trapped behind Jonathan Quick.
The Bruins or Maple Leafs could take a run at exiting Wild goaltender Josh Harding, who could break out after finally getting healthy. Should the Flyers deal young goaltender Sergei Bobrobsky, the Blue Jackets might take a run at that.
The odds of a veteran like Luongo being happy with a trade to a place like Columbus are not good.
