This Tim Thomas is some activist.
The Bruins goaltender took a withering stand against the U.S. Government by refusing to go with his teammates for their White House fete from President Barack Obama. Then he backed up his defiance by hiding behind this prepared statement:
I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.
This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.
Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.
This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT.
Here is what some folks had to write about this on Twitter:
Jeff Passan: “Is it too late for Tim Thomas to join the Republican presidential field? U.S.-born, older than 35 and just as loopy as the rest of 'em.”
Nick Cotsonika: "I would tweet something about Tim Thomas, but I believe Twitter has grown too big.”
Jouni Nieminen: “Oh well, at least President Obama doesnt have to pretend that he knows who Tim Thomas is.”
David Hodge: “Don't know if it's fair to point this out, but Tim Thomas has three children named Kiley, Kelsey and Keegan.”
Mark Whicker: “Tim Thomas could have shown up wearing his mask. But then Obama wouldl have known who he was.”
Dan Steinberg: “Explaining Tim Thomas situation to the 4 year old. She thinks the Bruins need to give him a chart and stickers.”
Mark Whicker: “Same thing happened when the Braves won the World Series and several players refused to go to Richmond to visit Jefferson Davis.”
Chris Botta: “Tim Thomas wanted people talking about his politics and Tim Thomas. Mission Accomplished.”
Mark Whicker: “If Thomas has that big a problem with The President, he should demand a trade to a non-US team, like Toronto or Dallas.”
Craig Button: “Certain that Tim Thomas has team mates that don't share his political or ideological beliefs. Will he not show up for games because of that?”
Mark Whicker: “Obama could have avoided this, and gotten Thomas to come, if he had made it ‘The Bruins' White House Visit - Presented By Discover Card.’”
