Tweet Treat: NHL All-Star Game In 140 Characters
Hockey fans got their usual spectacle at the NHL All-Star Game. The players didn’t check or hit.
They players did score, however, and they had lots of fun as Team Chara put a 12-9 beating on Team Alfredsson.
There were many highlights to chat about, but that Tim “Free Citizen” Thomas save on Daniel Alfredsson to prevent a hat trick was memorable. That save also helped Marian Gaborik cop the MVP award instead, a development that did not please the citizens of Ottawa.
Here is how the game unfolded in the Twitterverse:
James Mirtle: “Don Cherry on all-star weekend: ‘It's the best one that I've ever seen.’ Ron: ‘You've only been to three!’”
Pierre LeBrun: “Pretty good buzz in this place right now. Hopefully the 47 goals that are about to be scored won't kill it.”
Bruce Garrioch: “Looks like Team Alfredsson had a better time than Team Chara Saturday night in Ottawa.”
Ryan Classic: “Note to self: don't let Daniel Alfredsson become a GM.”
James Mirtle: “Hartnell: ‘Suck it Phaneuf woo!’ And the subtleties of trash talk are revealed.’”
Greg Wyshynski: “I just told Shanahan to keep an eye out because I saw two players get within 5 feet of each other out there.”
Mike Brophy: “Completely understand no hitting in All-Star Game, but wish players would pick up pace a bit. That would make game better.”
Dennis Dodd: “A bunch of NHL players wearing blue 5, a bunch of NHL players wearing red 4. The drama continues.”
Greg Wyshynski: “Some of the players are back on the ice to watch Drake. What, not between periods adjustments?”
Bruce Garrioch: “This just in: I'm a bigger fan of the Drake Hotel in Chicago than I am of Drake the entertainer.”
Doug West: “Tim Thomas decided to exercise his right to not come out to see Drake.”
Mike Brophy: “Who's the guy on stage with Drake? John Oates?”
Greg Wyshynski: “It would be the greatest thing ever if 100 screaming girls ran out on the ice for Drake like at the Super Bowl and then fell on their asses.”
YakovMironov: “Looks like Thomas doesn't show up in either nations capital.”
Mike Brophy: “Obama just cheered for Claude Giroux and said, ‘In your face Tim Thomas!!!’”
Greg Wyshynski: “Someone on the Alfie bench just stopped the puck with their stick. Everyone laughed.’
Bruce Garrioch: “‘We're going to get him one more goal and then he'll have it locked up.’ McLellan on Alfredsson being MVP.”
Mike Brophy: “If Doug MacLean was coaching Team Chara, he'd shortened his bench now. This game needs Doug MacLean!”
Greg Wyshynski: “Damnit, Sedin, I bet the under.”
Mike Brophy: “I still say this game should be played between players 29 and younger vs. 30 and older. I think players might try a little harder.”
Mike Brophy: “Gaborik deserving of MVP. Torts hopes he can win Conn Smythe.”
