Knicks Guard Fined $1,000,000
February 23, 2012
J.R. Smith is a shooting guard with the currently 'Lin-sane' New York Knicks. Dude is a former Mc Donald's All American (he earned MVP in that game) and participated in the Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk Contest which he lost to Josh Smith. He has played for the New Orleans Hornets, Denver Nuggets, Zhejang Golden Bulls (China), and currently with the Knicks.
Smith is a good player but his attitude often gets him traded and into trouble. The Zhejang Golden Bulls fined Smith $1.06 million during their season for missing practices. Golden Bulls General Manager Zhao Bing said that the team was enforcing a clause in Smith's signed contract and that the team warned him throughout the season.
Bing said, "This was the arrangement when he came to the team. Every practice we let him know. If he expressed to us that he wasn't going to come to practice, we'd tell him that in accordance with our contract, we're deducting money from your salary. And he'd always get back to us with, 'Whatever. If you're going to take it, then just take it."
It's that attitude right there that's the problem with this dude. I mean he's a good player which is why teams keep giving him another chance to play but when I heard that J.R. Smith was coming to the Knicks I was like uh oh! I love his quote, "If you're going to take it, then just take it." Who do you think you are Bill Gates? Didn't know you had bank like that J.R. and you might want to be careful with your money, I just did a report about Allen Iverson blowing through his millions.
J.R. has had his issues with car accidents and incidents. Dude had two accidents within months of each other in 2007 one of which he jacked up Carmelo Anthony's ride. The accident in June was more serious as both Smith and his passenger Andre Bell were ejected from a car and Bell was pronounced dead two days later. A grand jury declined to indict Smith but he pled guilty a few weeks after the accident. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail but 60 of those days were suspended on condition that Smith completed 500 hours of community service. The Denver Post reported that Smith was released after 24 days of his sentence.
To say this guy brings a ton of baggage wherever he plays is an understatement. His abstract must look like a phone book. Dude's license was suspended five times in eight months! The fact that he received two more speeding tickets and his license was suspended three more times after the accident that killed his friend is telling.
I don't even have time to get into why he cancelled his 'Twitter' account, lets just say he was either writing to Blood gangs members or writing about Blood gang members...allegedly.
The Golden Bulls finished their season 15 -17 and didn't make the playoffs which allowed Smith to come back to the NBA since he didn't have an opt out clause. He has a one year $2.5 million contract with the N.Y. Knicks that comes with a second option. Like I said J.R. and cars don't mix and only Los Angeles has more cars than New York City, here's to hoping he hires a driver or hails a cab in the future.
