College basketball fans, what is up! I know you guys are feeling it right now. If the grass is growing and the weather's getting warmer and we all simultaneously lose an hour of sleep, then you know that March Madness is here. This is my favorite time of the year in sports. Who will win it all, seriously no one knows this year. Hey bracket guy? Uh Oh! #1 seed Syracuse is without Fab Melo, dude just got ruled ineligible to play in the tournament, better change that bracket now.
I love this tournament, the tournament of 64 teams not the cash grab errrr I mean play in games tonight and tomorrow before the real event begins Thursday. The NIT is going on right now. Has there ever been an invitation you dread receiving more than the National Invitational. Basically if you win that you're the 65th best team in the country because you weren't good enough for the NCAA Tournament.
Well I am writing about Georgia Tech who has kicked Glen Rice Jr. off the basketball team less than a week after a shooting incident outside an Atlanta nightclub led to criminal charges.
Head coach Brian Gregory said, "It's an honor and a privlege to represent Georgia Tech and be part of this basketball program. There are certain standards that have to be met both on and off the court, and there has to be accountability when those standards aren't met. I'm disappointed that we have to take this action."
Rice will remain at Georgia Tech and complete his academic requirements for the spring semester.
Gregory also said, "Glen has done well in school, and we want to make sure he finishes the semester strong, and then we'll assist him in any way we can with his next steps as a student-athlete."
Rice Jr. (son of former NBA star Glen Rice) led Georgia Tech in scoring and rebounding this season but had numerous disciplinary issues.
According to Atlanta police, an officer received a call of a shot being fired near a nightclub. The officer pulled over a Cadillac Escalade and received two handguns from inside the vehicle.
Student manager London Warren "had glossy eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath" according to reports. He was charged with DUI. Steven Pryor was charged with discharging a firearm while under the influence. He claimed the gun went off accidentally while he was trying to remove it from between two seats.
Has there ever been a guy who has received more chances than Glen Rice Jr.? Guess four strikes and you're out right Georgia Tech? And I understand why, without this guy Georgia Tech couldn't beat half of the high schools in the country. Before I get any comments GT fans let me remind you of that 54-36 beat down you suffered against Miami, the same Miami that wasn't even good enough to get into the NCAA Tournament.
This is sad, but I honestly believe dude feels he's entitled. He's the son of a former NBA player, he was probably told he was the man all of his life. Hell he was the man at Georgia Tech and it all caught up with him. Yeah the police and the law are funny that way, they don't care how many triple doubles you average or who's son you are when it comes to busting caps and getting liquored up then hopping behind the wheel.
Head coach Brian Gregory said that manager London Warren is no longer with the team either. Good luck rebuilding a program that finished the season 11-20.
