You know Roger Goodell and the suits at the NFL front office have a countdown clock to the regular season kicking off. Not necessarily to get the games underway but more so to get the horrendous off season over with. What hasn't happened this off season to give the NFL a black eye?
From 'Deflategate' and all the covering up and lying going on with that debacle, to a player involved in a high speed chase with his kids in the car. Players blowing off their fingers celebrating the fourth of July and then hiding errrr I mean not letting the NY Giants know about your medical condition. It happened to a Tampa Bay Bucs player as well. Pittsburgh vs New England is Thursday night with the return of the golden boy Tom Brady but the Cleveland Browns have one more negative thing to add just before the season starts...a coach trying to choke out his fiance...allegedly.
Cleveland Browns offensive line coach Andy Moeller is under investigation for assaulting his fiance. Berea, Ohio prosecutor Jim Walters said the "investigation is ongoing and is likely to continue for a couple of days" before he decides whether or not to press charges.
Browns head coach Mike Pettine said he would not comment on the incident but the team issued a press release:
"Over the weekend, Andy was involved in an incident, involving allegations that we take very seriously," the team's release stated. "We have followed our internal protocol, determining that right now it is best for the team and for Andy to take time away from the organization to focus on his personal matters. We are going to respect the process of investigation on this personal matter and will have no further comment at this time."
Moeller has been suspended indefinitely pending the results of the case. Left tackle Joe Thomas said he saw Moeller in the building Monday morning. "Moeller just told us he was dealing with some personal things and might be gone for a while," Thomas said. "That's all we heard."
Like I said, the games can't start soon enough, don't get me wrong the vast majority of players are excellent mentors doing great things everyday, the problem is each week a new knucklehead rises up with some criminally stupid behavior and this time it was a coach. Cleveland plays the equally embarrassing NY Jets on Sunday... Sorry Jets fans blame your front office not me...
