McClendon interviews for Marlins’ managerial job
Detroit Tigers batting coach Lloyd McClendon has interviewed for the Miami Marlins’ managerial vacancy, a major-league source confirmed to FOXSports.com.
McClendon, current Toronto Blue Jays minor league manager Mike Redmond, and former Philadelphia Phillies manager Larry Bowa are believed to be the remaining candidates for the Miami job. The Marlins would like to have their new manager in place before baseball’s general managers meet next week in Indian Wells, Calif.
McClendon went 336-446 over five seasons as the Pittsburgh Pirates manager, from 2001 through 2005. His experience and calm demeanor would have appeal to the Marlins, following the tumultuous 2012 season under Ozzie Guillen.
