Punto, Uribe could be on way out with Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers, after acquiring utility man Skip Schumaker, began clearing the logjam on their roster Wednesday by designating outfielder/first baseman Scott Van Slyke for assignment.
But the team isn’t finished yet.
Including Schumaker, the Dodgers still feature seven reserve infielders on their 40-man roster. And Nick Punto and Juan Uribe are the two most likely to go, according to a major-league source.
Punto, 35, could be an attractive trade candidate — he is a respected role player who will earn a relatively modest $1.5 million next season.
Uribe, 33, is more likely to be released; no team will want to take on his $7 million salary, not when he is coming off two injury-marred seasons and a sub-.560 OPS in both.
The Dodgers’ other utility candidates include Schumaker, Jerry Hairston, Elian Herrera, Dee Gordon and Justin Sellers.
Gordon remains a candidate to be traded. Hairston is coming off hip surgery, Sellers back surgery. Both are expected back for the start of spring training.

FIrst off, get rid of Juan Uribe FIRST!!! He can sure no purpose to helping the Dodgers win the pennant. Just let him go! Second. Didn't the Dodgers already trade Justin Sellers to the Boston Red Sox in that big trade last year? Third. Trading Dee Gordon for relief pitching or a powerhouse hitter who also happens to be a 3rd Baseman sounds right to me. Fourth. Nick Punto is a great addition for the Dodgers. He's a great defensive player and the price of his contract is very very low. It would be completely wrong and a big mistake for the Dodgers to let Punto go. KEEP PUNTO!!! If the Dodgers have to let players go, get rid of Justin Sellers, Juan Uribe and Jerry Hairston and trade Dee Gordon.

I read the Dodger are going to release Punto and Uribe. Why did they not release one (Uribe) of them instesd of Van Slykes when they had to make room on the 40 man roster for Schumaker? Van Slykes is and OF with 1st base experance. Might could filled in till Carwford is out till possible May.

Sorry folks but there is no way trading Dee Gordon for a powerhouse hitting 3rd baseman is going to happen. Gordon being part of a deal that includes about the only good pitching prospects the Dodgers have left is highly more likely. Also better options than dealing Gordon would be dealing Capuano, Harang, Lilly (Dodgers would have to Eat a lot of his contract) or John Ely. You're not going to get much in return but you free up spots on the 40 man. And there's no reason to keep Scott Hairston, Justin Sellers, and Elian Herrera, that's essentially 3 players who all offer the same skill set though Herrera is younger and was the most impressive of the 3 IMO last year. The Dodgers aren't done dealing this off season it will be interesting to see what happens next.
