The Texas Rangers have placed starting pitcher Scott Feldman on outright waivers. Feldman is coming off of microfracture knee surgery, going 3-1 with a 4.03 ERA during a rehab stint in Triple A.
Waivers expire at 1 p.m. ET today, and if Feldman, The Rangers’ Opening Day starter in 2010, goes unclaimed, he will get assigned to Triple A.
The righty is set to earn $4.4M in 2011, $6.5M in 2012 with an club option in 2013 worth $9.25M. A buyout of the option would cost $600,000.
The $6.5M salary for next year gives many teams pause, however, Feldman could be a reasonable gamble for a team in need of starting pitching.
