The Arizona Cardinals have placed No. 3 WR Early Doucet (hip) on injured reserve. To replace him on the 53-man roster, the team signed LB Curtis Gatewood off the practice squad.
Gatewood (6-3, 250) has spent 12 weeks on the Cardinals practice squad this season after originally joining the team on September 6 following preseason and training camp with the Washington Redskins. He has appeared in six career games with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2008 and collected two tackles on defense and four special teams stops. He originally entered the NFL with the Redskins as a rookie free agent from Vanderbilt University in 2008.
The team is expected to use rookie WR Andre Roberts in the No. 3 role with Doucet out for the rest of the season.
In addition, the Cardinals have signed LB Brandon Sharpe to the practice squad.
Sharpe (6-2, 254) entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the New Orleans Saints out of Texas Tech University this past April. He was released by the Saints and signed by the Cowboys on Jul. 25. He spent preseason with the Cowboys until being released on Sept. 4. He played in 23 games in three seasons with Texas Tech at defensive end and was a first-team All-Big 12 selection as senior when he set a school record with 15 sacks.
A source confirmed the Cardinals worked out Sharpe and Brandon Long on Wednesday.
