Dolphins GM admits having draft before free agency affects strategy
With the NFL Draft set to be held before free agency this year, there’s no question that strategy will have to be altered a bit.
Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland discussed the situation in his pre-draft press conference on Thursday.
“In preparation with the draft board, it hasn’t changed too much. You still put up the board pretty much the same way I have always put it up. Free agency doesn’t affect how you evaluate these players. It affects your strategy,” Ireland said. “I think that is the most important thing that it affects your strategy going into the draft. Normally by this time, you have hit some musts or some needs or some things that you needed to put on your team. Now it is kind of wide open. Your musts, your wants and your needs are all there and you just have to supplement it with free agency after the draft.”
