New York Giants second-year WR Hakeem Nicks is expected to miss roughly three weeks, the team said Monday.
Nicks is suffering from compartment syndrome after a hit to his lower right leg during Sunday night’s game against the host Philadelphia Eagles.
Nicks is undergoing a procedure now to treat condition. Former Giants S Jack Brewer missed three weeks with the same injury back in the 2004 season.
The Giants are now without both of their starting wide receivers. Fourth-year pro Steve Smith is still dealing with a partially torn pectoral muscle.
Backup WR Mario Manningham will continue to start until Smith is able to return to the lineup. WR Derek Hagan, who signed with the team last Tuesday, will likely start opposite Manningham. Undrafted rookie Duke Calhoun will temporarily handle the No. 3 role.
The team has worked out nine receivers this season. Veteran WR Kevin Curtis worked out for the team last week.
