Kobe Bryant says he has nothing to learn from his Team USA teammates

Kobe Bryant has the type of sarcastic attitude where you can never tell if he’s joking or serious. He’s one of the cockiest players in the history of the NBA, which is also why he is one of the most successful and a lock for the Hall of Fame. To many players, Olympic basketball is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a learning experience. Kobe, on the other hand, is too good for all that.
According to USA TODAY Sports, Bryant says he is in a place in his career that everyone else on the team wants to get to. He also says there is no player on the Team USA roster that can teach him anything.
“I’m where everybody wants to get to,” Kobe said when asked what it’s like to be the old guy on the team. “I just happen to be still playing.”
He was then asked if he can learn anything form the younger players on the team.
“No,” he replied. ”I don’t know if I know it all, but I know more than they do.”
Oh yeah, and he is also the self-proclaimed best post player on the team — ahead of lone center Tyson Chandler.
“No, no, no,” Kobe interrupted when asked if he was the second-best post player behind Chandler. “Not other than Tyson Chandler. I’m the best post player on this team, period. Tyson Chandler is not in that conversation.”
Maybe Bill Plaschke is right about this guy. In terms of NBA accomplishments, you really can’t argue with him. We know how he feels about dumb questions, so it’s also possible he felt the aforementioned questions weren’t worthy of genuine responses. I don’t know about you, but I think game of two-on-two between Kobe, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Carmelo Anthony is in order.

Over the hill and a rocking chair is awaiting his sorry attitude of an ass.
-
Love him or hate him, Kobe is still one of the best players in the NBA! NOBODY has outworked Kobe Bryant, while other players were at home nursing injuries and watching Sports Center... He was still at the gym working on his game.
Kobe is cocky as hell which can be a major flaw... I am a Kobe fan and admire his committment to the game. I do wish he was more down to eath..... -
If he is all that good as he say's he is then why doesn't he just play 5 on 1 He thinks he is the grandest thing since Dipped Snuff. That is what is wrong with most of these players they think they are better than every body. I agree with ctcsme that you can not teach someone class. My Grandmother said it best If your great at something, anything , You will not have to Toot your own Horn! It will get tooted by others. Bragging just shows he is Classless. Rich but Classless
-
Dude, your just a hater...you probably can't play a lick of basketball!!!
-
Most people and I am for one Don't like or hate him as a player but this dude just let crab shoots out of his mouth too much.
-
You haven't seen Kobe play, he will play 5vs 1 sometimes and still think he's a Dipped Snuff.
I wish Kobe would shut his mouth. I love the Lakers but someone need to accuse him of rape again. -

Well said! I love Kobe, he's one of my all-time favorite player in the game.
-
FYI: Hate or love hime... KOBE Bryant is as good as he says... EVERYONE is tooting his horn... 5 NBA Championships, 2-time Finals MVP, Olympic GOLD Medal (about to be two), currently 3rd all-time post-season scoring, 5th all-time in regular season scoring. 14 All-NBA Team (10 All-NBA First Team) 12 All-Defensive Team (9 All-Defensive First Team). 14 time NBA All-Star Game, 4 All-Star MVP Awards, NBA Slam Dunk Champ... As of April 2012, he has had 5 sixty-point games, 25 fifty-point games, and 112 forty-point games... NOW honestly...what can any of them teach him... HE is the oldest and most accomplished on TEAM USA. They are learning from him... Ask Lebron, Durant, Melo, Chris Paul, ...each stated experience and knowledge leard from Bryant at World Championships made each a better player...
-
I am Kobe fan too....he attitude goes with the territory...if you were a basketball player that is as good as he is with the committment to be great at it like he is, you would be cocky too. If being confident is cocky then so be it...there are alot of great basketball players in the game but he will go down as one of the best basketball players in the game of his time...trust me on that!!
-
You obviously don't know the difference between cockiness and confidence. Look it up. Also, i agree kobe is ONE of the best now. Not the best, LeBron james, you may hate him, is the best. Yeah, Kobe has more championships, but he also had a great supporting cast!! LeBron has the most triple doubles in history and back to back MVP's. He also went to the finals his rookie year i believe. With the caviliers, who had no one to back up LeBron. So yes, kobe is good, but i would not say the best.

LeBron didn't just get his latest ring all by himself, he had to work with his team to achieve the title, so in essence he needed help to capture a championship. All of the greatest basketball players need to have their supporting cast to assist them in capturing a title.
-
Indeed he will!
-
this guy only makes people hate him more and more everytime he opens his mouth. idiot!
-
I have to disagree with you, every-time he opens his mouth I like him more and more.
-
Very well put Novalondon..
-
Agreed! Kobe might be a great BB player, but he is like all the other black punks in the game. The fact is he doesn't even come close to Jordon and few other players. He can make a basket, but there's a hell of alot more that goes along with being an NBA star than scoring points. In the eyes of the public, he is a punk, (cheater) cheated on his wife, talks way too much s.h.i.t. I hope he fades away along with Tiger Woods.
-
Hater white boy...LOL. Hang yourself.
-
aint nobody gonna hang themself...let da white boy speek, he an american like da rest of us. anyhow, da mo he talk, da mo he will step on his own tongue.
-
Jeebus Crise you do an aweful impersonation of an undereducated stereotypical black person. I guess you don't watch Hillbilly handfishin, Swamp Wars, or any number of reality shows featuring some of the most colorful whites speaking in what could never be considered proper English. Now you have Honey Boo Boo Child and her family representing the finest European Americans.
Seems you need to spend more time educating your own family members on the proper use of the English Language than posting to threads on the web in what you consider speaking in stereotyped black dialects. -
The fact that someone uses a racist term should not be used as an excuse to retaliate with the same. As a race we have a long history of being disparaged by whites, but that is not all whites. In fact, it is getting pretty tough to be a racist since most of their kids play with ours and sleep over our homes invited not as guest, but family.
The term white boy is no less derrogatory as black boy if speaking to a man. If speaking of or to an actual boy then its cool. Prove your intellectual superiority to this person by insulting him along more intimate lines rather than resort to racism. I would gather "vervpiprvagina" is more upset with his own lack of a life with meaning to anyone outside of his facebook friends, than at Kobe.
Kobe is young, black and super rich and could no doubt bang verv's wife and daughters while he sat in a corner chair weeping longingly to switch with even one of them for a second. Ah it must hurt to be this angry and unfulfilled by another man. He sounds as if Kobe is supposed to be his role model and failed him. Poor poor vervpipe. I will be your big brother. I will be your hero if you need one. -

Why did this have to turn into a race thing?? It is so sad to see there are still ignorant folks in today's day!! I hope you fade away- how about that!!! And for the record I am white and you are disgrace!

What defines one as a punk is that a punk is quick to make racist comments at the drop of a hat. A punk would also be quick to call someone a punk that they don't know personally nor ever will. A punk makes assumptions about unknowns and relies heavily on the media for his facts.
In the eyes of what public is he a punk based upon his relationship with his wife? Over 75% of married men cheat or have, the numbers of wives that have cheated is a scant 10% less than men and gaining ground.
In a Harvard study of 2000 married couples over a 10 year period in those couples married at least 23 years one partner had cheated in 78% of those couples. If you are still faithful, odds are your wife is a slut vervpipevagina. -

Wow! sounds to me like maybe your significant other cheated on you and that is why you are lashing out at Kobe and Tiger. Just remember that we all live in a world where no one is perfect!
-
He happened to speak the truth in my opinion... Since when did showing self-confidence and praising oneself become a "sorry attitude"? He didn't diss anyone, he merely showed the elevated image he holds of himself. In the corporate world we call that "brash, ambitious, confident"... you go Kobe! Haters can talk, but can't walk in your shoes.
-
Your forgetting the biggest item in the game. There are five players on the court, not just one with a super sized ego. Sure he makes more money than all of us writing here but it remains the same. He is a plain ass for talking like he does instead of talking how others have helped out along the way. HE is NOT the team only a player who does well for his age.
-
You are right about being the only person on the team but we know that already..and he is not the only person that hogs that ball....there are alot of ball players that do but because he is Kobe, he is always going to have haters like yourself!! Tell us something that we don't know. Every conversation is an individual one and like JulieH said he didn't diss anyone, he is merely talking about how he holds himself... Now ask him a question a different question!! DUH!!
-
You are forgetting the biggest point as well. A team is made up of individuals with personal drive and sacrifice. No team is an amalgum. Each player brings his own talent and drive to the game. Kobe as an individual has often scored half of the lakers points to win games. You don't have a 100 point game where each of the five guarantees to make 20 points each. Kobe may, in fact, take charge in tough spots and earn 40 of the 100 and assist others as well.
Kobe is a leader and others can learn from him, but if you the leader are looking to the follower for dierection, you are lost and will lose.
Kobe is arguably the greatest in the game today and in recent history. Has he had personal set backs? Have any of us whose lives are not played out in the media, of course.
Lebron calls himself the King and has only one ring..... ego. Carmelo and every player in the NBA are all strong type A personalities and the lack of a substantial superego is pervasive throughout the team and not just Kobe.
Trash talk is a part of the sport and Kobe is keenly aware he will face these guys as competitors soon enough and just because they are on this team does not mean they can let their guards
Without individual effort there would be no team.Remember, there is no I in team, but there are three in millionaire and that is what he is as a result of his individual drive to win when others on the team give up. -
You just shut all the Laker haters up'''' I would love to see who dares to give negative feedback on this one GO LAKERS'''''
-
Well put.
-
My sentiments exactly!!
-
Well said!!
-
Its only the people that accept status qou that talks bad about the second greatest player in Bball history. Kobe should have his own Locker room when he comes to town!!
-
Agreed. Love him or hate him without the stand out players like Byrd, Bryant, Jordan, Nash, would the sport be worth watching? The difficult part of being a franchise player is you must always be on. Those on the bencdh get a paycheck and a ring even if they know they did not contribute equally to Kobe.
There are players that will retire rich with few injuries because they rode the pine and let Kobe win the games. Kobe puts it all out the all the time and when he knows he can no longer do that, he will quit and not languish on the pine. -

well said....
-
Sorry you feel that way.
-
He's 100% correct, as you can't teach someone class.
-
who needs class when you're making millions? given a choice of the two, I'll take the latter please...
-
you probably never went to class
-
A huge part of sports is bravado and convencing your opponents you are as good as you say you are. Trash talking about a game and how good you are is not classless but a part of the sport itself. Class is not directly related to ones chosen profession or the customs that come with it. Would you consider it classless for a fan to show up to a game shirtless with his teams logo painted on his stomach or would you call that a part of the nature and culture of the event?
Class and culture can be confusing if you don't know the difference. I am sure there are a lot of weekend rednecks at NASCAR events swilling beer on top of an RV that in their real lives are some of the classiest people you would ever have the pleasure of knowing.
What we do for fun is let it hang loose and free and that does not mean we lack class. Maybe you are British and play polo and remain in those riding pants as you sip starbucks with father. Some of us put on a pair of short pants and flip flops and enjoy life on our own terms. -
Well i beg to differ because Kobe can learn from LeBron on how to include other teamates something kobe does not do!!! because he feels that he can take on all 5 players on a team!!! And watching the games he doesnt even post up! when he does he doesn't do anything period!!! Kobe needs to get off that pedestal he puts himself on!!! learn how to involve your teamates and be a better ballplayer instead of a selfish one!!!!!
-
This whole thing about Kobe being a ballhog is ignorant at best... I will admit that Kobe did take a step backwards last year and started jacking up too many shots again. Really watch a Lakers game instead of Sports Center and whenever Kobe and the Lakers plays your team. I watch the Lakers every chance I get here in SoCal.....
People who KEEP calling Kobe a ballhog actually don't know what they are talking about, Kobe can go a full half taking 5 shots or less to get his TEAMMATES in the game. It is up to his TEAMMATES to follow through. But again since you really don't know what your talking about you will say the same thing other say (who don't know what their talking about).... -

ahhh, come again... I think the number of rings Kobe holds is a testament to his ability to be a team player and leader simultaneously... and let's not forget that Lebron was not much of a team player himself during his Cavs days...don't let your personal dislike of the man blind you to the facts... yes Kobe is cocky, but there is nothing Lebron can teach Kobe that Kobe doesn't already know or hasn't already heard.

You mean the same Lebron that up until this season refused to shake the hand or congratulate an opponent that beat his team? That Lebron James? He even tried to justify it as not being a poor sport. The same Lebron that walks off the court and refuses to honor his contract to address media win lose or draw? That Lebron?
Kobe did not put himself on a pedestal, His contract with the lakers did. The fans that pay for seats to see him take elbows to the mouth and strain muscles and tendons each night for the love of his livelyhood put him there. No one gave him his championshp rings, he took them out of the hands of his opponents.
There is only one other player in the history of the game that can claim he is better than Kobe and that is his Airness himself and even he has a great respect for Kobe. -
He said it so many times I believe him
-
He has PROVEN it so many... I think that is what you meant to say....
-
The game vs. Australia was a disgrace. They're up by more than 25 points, with about 3 minutes and they're still making three-pointers?!? The coach and players should be ashamed of themselves. At the very least the 2nd team should have come in; or the coach should have called time and reprimanded these guys. It's too bad Howard Cosell is not around, because he would have let Kobe Bryant have it in the post-game interview. What a disgrace and shameful group of guys we present to the world.
-
Ha!! Kobe is right, he's been in the league 17 plus years..he has 5 count em 5 championships, and there is noone in the league right now who has his low post game....if anyone thinks that's not true...then ask yourself, WHY WHY does Every team in the NBA bar none STILL send double teams at Kobe Bryant???
Secondly, Kobe has only had a select few teammates that he trust's to step up and make shots when the Lakers need to score and that's why he doesn't pass the ball as much to his teammates! He Doesn't trust them!!!!! Kinda reminds me of a certain player who wore the number "23"???
Remember, when Jordan didn't trust his teammates to step up and make shots what is was he supposed to do? keep passing the ball to them anyway????
Is that what Kobe should do? Keep passing the ball to people who can't score?? Why would he do that' To prove he's not quote selfish? Screw that, if you pass the ball to your teammates and they don't convert you quit giving them the ball!!! Jordan did it, so why is Not ok for Kobe to? Kinda hypocritical!! As to Kobe is a champion love him or hate his guts, that will NEVER change.. ! -
Thank you Mrs. Bryant. Perhaps when you were raising your son, you should have taught him a little bit of humility and better judgement in his personal life. You are correct though, he is a straight up baller.
-
lET ME GUESS yOU sIR DIDE ON THE CROSS AND COMMITTEDnO SINS RIGHT/ YOUR PERFECT RIGHT? YOUVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE RIGHT??? PLEASE.....
-
GKC512 - what you teach a child about fairness at some point has to be seen as the groundwork. Once he is a man you teach him more about the real world or he will be a nice loser, but still a loser. Why play a game if not to win?
-
You are so right! Finally, somebody on this post shows real b-ball knowledge...lots of people sipping on Kobe hater-ade that are unwilling to admit that he is one of the top 5 greatest in the sport! So many in denial about his superior skills, just because they don't like the man.

You're so right. Love ya :D
-
I agree...what can he learn though. He shouldn’t have said it but unfortunately it is true. The question was a trap question. Like Lebron is better than Kobe question if he answers one way and you’re an idiot if you answer the other. Kobe caught it. Personally who cares? You can’t take away the 5 rings or the 17 years NBA EXP. Why didn’t they ask Lebron this question? The question was designed to belittle Kobe no matter the answer. I am sure they all are having fun together playing together and winning. Think the media needs to let us do the same as a spectator and quit stirring up the soup. Sports media is as dumb as the crap they start.
-
Preach my Brotha Preach!!! I love it!! Straight up truth!!!
-
You need to get your facts staight! If you want to compare Michael to kobe know that Jordan has played for 2 less years already than bryant. Jordan still has more points(2800ish), rebounds(500ish), assits(200ish), blocks(299) and championships. The only category that kobe has a higher number in is in turnovers (500+ more). When kobe learns how to play with and lead a team the way Jordan did maybe he'll get close to Jordans numbers and maybe then he will understand that he needs to learn from and play with his teammates.
-
Strange......did anyone read my posts??? There is No where in my post that I Compared Jordan to Kobe!!!! What I did was, draw a parallel between the two with regard to thier mistrust of their respective teammates!!! Read before you respond...apparently you didn't!!
-
So, I will say it again Jordan was the GOAT!! And ouit of Jordan's OWN mouth, Kobe is the best basketball player of THIS generation according to Jordan!! He voiced on 3 different occasions!!! so, since you respect the G O A T so much....respect his opinion as well...and his quote was ' Kobe Bryant" is the closest thing to him of this current BB generation!!
-
AND, I am aware of ALL of MJ's And KB's stats and have been for quite some time and know full well that Kobe's stats Don't match up to MJ's!!

Lebron is also Now a Champion, but he still has lot's of basketball to play to really be on the same level as Kobe and just because you pass the ball to your teammates and jump out of the building doesn;t dictate your overall accomplishments...give Lebron a few more years....just as Kobe had to put in his time and as jordan had to put in his time....you can't be the best basketball player jsut because you win a 1 title.....
-
Amen.
-
I am a Lakers fan, and I don't agree with what he said. He has been an outstanding player and all that. However, he shouldn't be degrading his teammates by saying, "he doesn't have to learn anything from his teammates."
-
He's a veteran... he can say that with all honesty. He didn't criticize anyone else's game, he just showed his own confidence. And I'm also a Lakers fan...
-
AAAAAAAAAMEN!!!!!
-
Don't take it that far, it is just a conversation...people are taking this out of context.
-
They are his teammates for a second in time, but in the real world they are his competitors and he has to be mindful of his obligations to the Lakers franchise and his sponsors to at all times reflect that he is who they are paying him to be, the best bar none.
As for learning from them. At this point his career is not about learning or proving he can win. He is a master of the sport in his prime and he is not in it to learn from players or coaches but fro his own mistakes. We all get to a place in our lives and careers where we are no longer there to learn, but to perfect. Perfection does not come from without, but from looking within.
There is no one on that team that can perfect another person. Lebron can still learn because he is in that phase of his development. One day he will be able to say he has arrived and can only learn from himself what will get him to his ultimate zen. -

Funny part is.....some of the same people that WORSHIP the ground MJ walks on just can't seem to remember how cocky, brash and sarcastic MJ really was.....I love MJ and his is TGOAT however, Kobe is acting no differently than Jordan did when Jordan stepped on that court...if you doubt that I suggest you go back and watch some of the Bulls vs Ny or Bulls Vs Detroit or Bulls Vs The Trailblazers i have those games and pretty much ALL of MJ's games on DVD And VHS MJ WAS COCKY ARROGANT AND IN YOUR FACE AND DIDN'T give a flip who didn't like it. he even punched on of his Own teammates in practice...is that ok because it's MJ???
-
thanks for the reminder, and you are so right...MJ was just as cocky, if not even more so and we've placed him on a pedestal that he can never fall from... it's what great players do... show their self confidence by being cocky, in-your-face... if Kobe acted passive, soft-spoken and wimped out when the going got rough there would still be plenty of critics questioning his manhood, or saying "grow a pair"...
-
What would that game of two on two prove? Bryant and James would eat Durant and Anthony a live! Bryant and James are two of the best defenders in the NBA. Durant and Anthony's size advantage would not be a plus for them, because they both prefer the perimeter.
-
What do you expect from an egotistical prick?
-
Egotistical pricks usually think they are in a position of perfection that allows them the roon to call others egotistical pricks. Hmmmmm....... think you committed this error bud. Difference is you know Kobes name and have watched him play many times, he wouldn't know you from a hole in the wall nor has he seen you play.......... sounds like you might need to be more focused on your failures and shore up your game before you call someone doing what you will die never having done a prick.
I am sure most of us guys would trade one night of the level of groupies and millions this guy has seen for a decade of ours. I am sure most of us would love to know what its like to defeat the best at what we do in our daily grind with half as much success.
Judge your failures and you can get where you need to go in life. Judge others and you are as far as you can go. -
He's right. Intelligence can not be learned
-
WTF?? You serious?
-
Spoken like a true idiot. Did you read that in a gum wrapper? Intelligence is not just inherited but also acquired through learning and developed through learning. We aren't born with every tool we will need to live well. Most of what we need we pick up in stages of our development. Learning helps us recognise what we need and what we can live without.
If you are intelligent, it is because you learned of this through experience or testing of some sort. You learned what the color red was in order to describe an apple and were not just born with the knowledge of color or how to make associations.
If you failed to learn from this session, then you are probably not intelligent yourself. -
Sounds to me like Bryant has a serious ego problem, along with an attitude that doesn't match well with his teammates. Time to push the "humble" button, Kobe, and start realizing that the basketball world doesn't revolve around you. I wish Coach K would speak up and teach him a little humility!! Coach K knows how to get his point across!!!!
-
I believe most of you mean he has an id problem but either way its incorrect. Its a sport and an ego driven sport. When you dunk you hope your nuts are in someone face and when you land you don't let out a rawr........... but GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Some of you men sound like you never trash talked or maybe you never played sports to win. The spirit of winning is not touchy feely but pure adrenaline rushing through your veins.
Next time you play a game of anything with another adult where millions of dollars are on the line play nice and see how it works out.
Thousands of jobs connected to these team sports depend on having a winning record. Kobe and his attitude good or bad, keeps vendors in business in LA and I am sure they are grateful even if they don't know to be. A franchose like the lakers feeds homeless, sheltors battered women, and hundreds charities between the many players and sponsors. That is a huge contribution to society for one individual to claim honor to and if it means his nuts are larger than normal when he describes then, so be it. I maybe give 9 grand a year in donations to chairty. Kobe does that hundreds of thousands of times over. If he has the nere to think highly of himself, how dare he? -
Though I've never been a Kobe fan, you cant deny he's one of the best ever. Of course he would probably lose in a one-on-one with James or Durant. They are both young and/or in their prime. Kobe has a lot of miles on his legs and isnt as explosive as once was. I think he could take Melo though. Melo is overrated. Wade would have a better chance. In Kobe's prime? Only Michael Jordan could take Kobe to school.
-
well said... only difference, I'm a Kobe fan... :-)
-
Debated often, yet personally I believe as probably most sports fans do that the NBA shouldn't be in the Olympics at all. Years back it was entertaining to watch a bunch of US colleges boys battle the "professional" Ruskies and simply cheer for a good game. Byrant is certainly one of best to play in the NBA where arrogance is a way of life, and I really would have enjoyed watching him play in the Olympics before he was drafted into the NBA coming out of Lower Merion High School, if that could have been possible!
-
Why shouldn't Kobi be arrogant? He and Jordan undoubtably had the best coach ever and have forgotten more than most superstars will ever learn. As far as the Olympics, the organizers either have to outlaw all professionals or set an age limit on athletes. They will not do either so it is the way it is and everyone like it or not had better get used to it. So athletes get better with age. Case in point the gold medal skeet shooter who I think is over 50 and some of aquestrians over 40. What is it they say at the closing ceremonies, "Let the youth of the world gather in 4 years". That is the joke.
-
LOL... good rhetoric
-
How many different way can yu dribble a basketball, drive to the basket, get a rebound, Kobe be around a long time I agree with who can teach anymore?
-
Kobe is so full of him self. I never liked him, and never will. And he will never win another championship again. Not even with Steve Nash. Sorry Kobe your time is done. Start planning your retiring vacation bro. I know you're going to try and prove that you still got it. But you're getting old bro and u cant change that. Its Lebron and Durant time now.
-
How many different ways can you dribble a basketball, drive to the basket, get a rebound, Kobe been around a long time I agree with him who can teach him anymore?
-
He' *Kobe Bryant*. What do You think he did?
-
Right Kobe, most of your team went to college!
-
Kobe is a "Richard Cranium" why is it these guys forget it's called a basketball team, there is NO I in team; just like a football team, baseball team, hockey team.......one player does not do it all.. It's a TEAM effort. He should be proud that he is there representing his country and leave his cocky arrogance at the airport!
