Ronda Rousey slams Michael Phelps for snobby behavior
Ronda Rousey is rapidly developing a reputation for being unafraid to say what's on her mind. The current Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion and former Olympics bronze medalist recently made headlines when she said she wanted to beat the crap out of Kim Kardashian. Rousey is back at it again, only this time she's taking aim at Michael Phelps.
In an interview with reporter Elie Seckbach (seen above), Rousey discussed her experience as a judo fighter at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. Rousey advised athletes to use lots of condoms while they're in London (the secret about the Olympic Village has been exposed!), talked about athletes gone wild with partying, and she suggested they pack lightly. She also dished on one of the athletes who she felt was stuck up.
"Michael Phelps kind of annoyed me a little bit," Rousey told Seckbach. "We had this club thing for the US team and all the Olympians are hanging out together, all the NBA players are hanging out, and Michael Phelps needed his own private section of the club," she ranted.
"All these NBA players are a bigger deal than this guy and they're hanging out with the rest of us. We're like, 'Hello, we're your teammates! We're not a bunch of groupies! Come hang out with us! Who are you?'"
Rousey also shared a story about the time several US medalists visited "The Oprah Winfrey Show." She says all the NBA players including Kobe Bryant were hanging out with everyone else, but Phelps wasn't.
"Michael Phelps had to be kept separate in a different backstage area so he wouldn't be harassed by the other Olympians," Rousey said.
"I don't like being somebody's teammate and being treated like I'm their groupie. I didn't even want to go out of my way to go and say hi to that guy. Just get over yourself," she said of Phelps. "All you do is swim. If somebody slapped you every single time you jumped in the pool, then I'd have a little bit more respect. But I was a swimmer before, so you can't tell me that swimming is 'oh my god' because it's not."
Yikes! Tell us how you really feel about him, Ronda. And between Rousey's criticism and teammate Tyler Clary's harsh words, it sure seems like "Bash Michael Phelps Month."
Phelps won eight gold medals in Beijing and was the standout athlete at the Olympics. He arguably was the biggest story in Beijing. But does that mean he should have been big-timing his Olympic teammates? Definitely not, though given the way his reputation was tarnished when his privacy was violated in the past, it's understandable why he might be inclined to keep to himself.

While Phelps was counting his eight gold medals, Rousey was counting condoms. Phelps made millions of dollars post-Olympics, Rousey has to get punched in the face to make chump change. Who do you think had the better approach at the Olympics?
-
Ronda Rousey is clearly a gossip *****. If not worse. Perhaps she is like the mantis, who after "getting" the male to have sex with her, EATS HIM! SO FOR ALL OF YOU WRITERS OUT THERE, HERE IT IS... THE NAME FOR HER:(Drum Roll Please)

Does anyone really care about what Ronda thinks. Michael has always been shy, not really one for attention like the Me Me Look @ Me !! NBA !! Perhaps he is Ronda, on the World(Olympic) Stage even a bigger deal than the NBA !!Perhaps he merely wanted some down time away from the limelight!! You do not know the Man, so your opinion of him reeks of Jealousy!! It's a shame you think so highly of yourself..and that he doesn't fawn over you!!! You ever think about walking up and saying Hi to him, perhaps he would give you the time of Day.Around Baltimore, he always has time for a kind word when he is approached!!Look how he acts around the Pool in his element, especially in the Relay Events..It's always Team USA not Me, I'm better than..Like The current NBA Stooges who have proclaimed themselves better more talented than the Dream team ('92). In Baltimore Phelpps swims and trains w/Elites, Wannabe's, Aspiring Young Athletes !! he is probably the greatest Olympian ever!! To Tyler Clary..shut up Douche..you cry he doesn't train like you after he blows you away in the Pool..Jealoust all over again.
Go Team USA !! -
Rousey is an embarrasment for anyone that represent the US in the Olympics or any sports. Michael Phelps should not even entertain the idea of responding to such embecile moronic lash-out coming from this idiot. So she is saying to the world if you don't socialize in such fashion as she or her peers you must now wear the scarlet letter of being "CONCEITED". I'm a 24 year USA Junior Volleyball Olympic coach and how Mr. Phelps conducted himself is the way most athelete should always conduct themselves. Screaming to the world to pack more condoms is not the way to start. Your going there to compete with the best olympians the world can offer, and you start out by being nothing short of a loud mouth un-educated idiot. Ms. Rousey, please if you have nothing positive to say, keep it to yourself.
-
Coach get off your high horse. She was just telling like it has been said many times before her. The crap these athletes pull at the Olympics is not a hidden secret anymore. And Phelps could have shown some comaraderie with his fellow Olympians nobody said he has to get drunk and grope women just be little cordial
-
Rousey is an idiot. A little research and she would have found that Michael has an issue that belongs with 1 out of 105 boys/girls today. Mild form but it does make them not social butterflies. And he probably does not give a flying you know what, what Rhousy thinks. Doubt if he even notices. And she will never attain the level of "perfectionj" that he did, no matter what she does.
-
SIT DOWN Ronda Rousey. How many gold medals do YOU have? Oh, that's right - ZERO.
-
Ronda Rousey, maybe he didn't need the gossip and PR BS that flows from the mouths of idiots like yourself? Maybe the fact that the guy won .......whats that? 8 medals comparied to your 0????? Maybe you could have learned a bit from Phelps by not being some party animal and getting tied up into the "getting laid" enviornment with the NBA guys. We in America know darn well that the NBA and college ball players are involved in sex fests beyond most imaginations and being that your telling the world how you were "hanging out" makes me wonder, was the comment about condom usage really for Team USA of more about you letting all the NBA guys know how to be prepared upon talking to you? Rousey, just because you can "choke" some 120lb little girl and just because you are now in a sport where what? 5 females compete and you happen to outweigh them all doesn't make you much of anything. Had it not been for your cheesy photo shoots you would be a nobody just like every other female fighter that tried to show her roar to the world...................
-
"We in America know". Speak for yourself. I have never heard this. Do NBA, and college players have sex...of course, but SEX FESTS??? That's a whole different level of sex. And since you can't speak for all NBA players, no more than you can speak for all of America, what you say "we" know is really just assumptions on your part. So, I'm going to correct you, and assume that at least some NBA, and college ball players believe in monogamy. BTW, your "wondering" if Ms. Rousey is a ***** who sleeps around, because she was hanging out with NBA players, who also happen to be fellow olympians, says more about you than her.
-
Seriously? So it's all about medals or money? I won eight gold medals so anything I do is OK. If you win eight gold medals you can't be an ass. Eight gold medals makes any action accceptable.
Why do you people think like this? Ronda stated her opinion, gave examples of why she felt that way, and that was it. Do we all really need to protect Phelps from this? -
you didn't get it. What he's saying is the guy won the most gold in history and got a lot of attention - A LOT. Most of it was trying to catch him doing something wrong. Chicks that want to go get tag teamed by the NBA players isn't the kind of attention the guy needs - or wants probably. Yeah - he might be an arrogant dick at times - who knows but he knows problems when he sees them coming by now - trailer park chicks with man hands that like to fight other chicks & scrog every NBA player (double the condoms please) probably isn't the best move - probably a good call. Can you get his point?
-
You missed the point. If a person prefer to be by himself or choose people around him, it is his prerogative. No one shold fault him from not mingling with this girl. This girl should not be offended if Michael chose not to associate with her. Seems like this girl is using Michael to be in the news. She is an olympian and she can do better than using someone's name to be in the news. Zarchon, don't you want to choose people around you?
-
So because he didn't want to "hang" in the Olympic Village with all the party animals, and wanted to concentrate on WINNING, he's an ass? He was't mean to her, he didn't insult her, and he certainly hasn't given an interview putting her down. Perhaps if Ms Rousey had spent more time in solitude in Bejing, she might have something better than a Bronze medal that she SHARES with another Olympian. How many does the "snob" have? 16.
I personally care less about who Phelps spent time with and more about his swimming, which is undeniably amazin. Ronda Rousey shouldn't even be giving interviews. What the hell has she done for us? Do a search for Ronda Rousey. You'll find her bashing Kim Kardashian and bashing Michael Phelps. YAY, lets give this idiot more air time. -
I agree we should give her more air time she is an amazing athlete. Once Hollywood notices this gal Michael Phelp's money will pall. She's beautiful and moves like a panther, awesome.
-
She is not the only one that has noticed Ms. Phelps son is a little off.
-
Michael Phelps is not a snob he is a damn good swimmer and is confident in what he does best. If you can't handle it join the peace core.
-
Maybe they were describing themselves through their name. It's not like they have a question mark at the end of their name lol.
-
Oh yeah? Well you're a dumb pigmenou. How about that?!
-
good point i must say DerbyD.
-
Yeah, You knew that guy was something other than "regular", right after he Won all the Medals in the last Olympics, the first time that he was being interviewed, when instead of responding to the glory of all the Winnings and the ultimate feeling that it must be......all he could talk about, was how he was going to get back at all the past students who were mean to him in the past (words to that effect). That was a Red Flag, for all you heard about him later, were negatives......gambling and weed. Not really much more about him since the last games.....that I saw, anyway..........
-
come on - the reason you only heard bad things was because that's what the media fed you. The guy was "just hanging out' when people took pictures of him taking a hit on a dooby. If I won 8 gold medals andwant to smoke a joint, let me smoke a f*ckin joint! Who knows who he is and who really cares but passing judgement off the evidence you have here is pretty weak, don't you agree.
-
Duh, "f*ckin" No....where else would I draw my info from ?
-
Never tell evil of a man, if you do not know it for certainty, and if you know it for a certainty, then ask yourself, 'Why should I tell it?'
--Johann K. Lavater -
Michael Phelps is a hellofa swimmer but smoking pot is illegal no matter who you are. That speaks to his character right there. Of course, I couldnt give a damn less if he smokes a pound of weed a day but it is what it is.
-
Have to agree, all the medals in the world will not give this guy any character.
-
I never was a fan of Michael Phelps before and if what she says is true, I am now even less a fan. He is only a swimmer, get over yourself, once you retire from this sport you will disappear into history that no one will care about any longer. You have not invented a cure for cancer or made excellent music or art. You can swim well. Big deal, you still could not outswim a shark who wants to eat you. Once you can do that, then maybe you are justified in acting this way (of course a decent human being would still not see himself as more special than other teammates!). I cannot wait until he retires so i do not have to see his awkward face ever again!
-
"You couldn't outswim a shark"Really? When did he see himself as more special than his teammates? Get a life, moron!
-
You should be careful how you throw around name calling, it shows your IQ
-
I did not throw anything around. I throw it right at his face.
-
Really and you are who oh that's right a nobody and you will die a nobody. Michale Phelps will be in the history books and will go down as the greatest olympian ever and once again you will and are a nobody.
-
How is that going to happen? He's not the greatest now!
-
Yeah pretty much he is, who else has 8 Gold medals from 1 Olympics, NO ONE, and he got 8 medals in his second Olympics 6 Gold, 2 Bronze, so lets see 8 + 8 = 16, he is in 7 events this time and that is 7 more medals so 16+7=23, old record 19 think he is the greatest.
-
Good post.
-
Shut your mouth little girl! Who the are you? You are acting like the groupie that you claim not to be. Enough of you already! Please, just shut up and beat the crap out of yourself because that is all that's been coming out of your mouth!
-
Well - I think she should beat up the Kardashian first. Then she can kick her own a$$.
-
Michael Phelps is having mental health issues and is trying to stay healthy to get through these Olympics, after which he will retire, the most decorated Olympian in history. Everyone needs to respect that. Some choose to live their life on a stage while others work quietly behind the scenes....he has a right to mingle, or NOT...remember, this is not his first rodeo, and it is HIS choice what he does outside the pool. Michael Phelps won't be one of the ones we read about (thanks to Hope Solo) at the Olympic Village giving America a bad name....Michael, if you are reading this, thank-you for being a class act and being true to yourself.
-
First off you should never bash a teammate that makes you look just as bad as that pot head I mean great role model of a person. 8 Medals because they have a stroke for every day of the week and then some. Really what they need to do is make where no matter how you get to the other end of the pool the fastest person is the fastest person just like track. But I agree with most way to show team unity going to London.
-
M. Phelps is a champ and he is representing the greatest country of all. He has already given and devoted his talent to his profession for OUR country. If M. Phelps (a.k.a. the champ) wants to be left alone, so be it. What Rousey might be missing is that Phelps may be keeping his mind mentally prepared and out of the spotlight so that he stays focused. Heck yea I want Phelps to be focused on competition day, he is headed toward more gold medals, for him, us, and most importantly, the Great U.S.A.!!!!! So good luck to Rousey during her turn, but don't knock Phelps for doing what he does best. If you really want to get to know the guy, do it after the olympics. Heck, send him chocolates, we don't care, we just want him and all the rest to be at their best during the Olympics whether it be social or anti-social.
-
Well said. He didn't have to go to the village with her dumb a$$. But he was showing unity by watching others enjoy themselves while all the media were trying to get a shot of him taking a condom from her or downing a hit from the keg. They wouldn't give a rats a$$ about her doing it but he would be crucified. 8 gold medals makes you a little more famous than a fat fighter with a future head like Joe Frazier doesn't exactly help the tabloids like Phelps - sorry Rousey.
-
I guess this little 'reverse snob' forgets that after the last Olympics, Michael Phelps went to a party at a friend's house, just trying to be a normal kid, and SOME pos video'd him with their cell phone and posted it on line (and I believe Michael was using a bong!)
So is it any wonder that he is careful about who he parties with?
And when she is ignorant enough to say "all he does is swim" I do hope she doesn't think I HAVE a lot of respect for someone who "all they do is get their brains beat out."
Also, I seem to recall that Michael has some kind of learning disabilty, and has risen above that through his swimming. -
I can't believe you have nothing more to say except bash a truly great olympian. Maybe Michael was getting into the right "head" to stay prepared for his next swim. Maybe he just had a headache & wanted to be left alone. I don't remember reading anything about your accomplishments or about all the medals you won. I have a feeling that maybe you came on to Michael & he wasn't interested so to fluff your ego you must put someone down and try to hurt "who they are". You have no right to bash Michael or anyone . Did someone make you the "garbage mouth" of the olympics? Why don't you just try to be nice....you'll feel better...honest..
-
It has been my understanding the people representing the USA are referred to as the USA Olympic Team or Team USA!
Lets see what TEAM is defined as.
TEAM:
A group of people working together on a task.
A group to participate or assist in a joint effort to accomplish an end.
A number of persons associated together in an activity.
A group on one side.
It is not necessary to verbally beat up on some one. Ronda Rousey frustrated comments,I believe, were related to people bonding, supporting each other as a group representing the USA and hopefully the USA TEAM will have won the top spot in the 2012 Summer Olympics. -
You don't get it. He was bonding the last time the media made him look like a troubled teenager with a drug problem. Whether a dumba$$ like you realizes it or not, it cost him millions in endorsements and was probably off base - but everyone saw it so they made themselves judge and jury. Who are you to say he isn't part of the team because he doesn't go party up with the team and sign their gear every 5 seconds. He probably wanted to get out and stay loose but not too loose, since, yeah - he does have a chance to WIN ANOTHER GOLD MEDAL idiot. This chick is going to win what - an arm wrestling match with a truck driver from Wisconsin and beat up a Kardashian. You go stand in the Kardashian line TEAM loser. Let Phelps stand in the gold medal line and make millions afterward - dumba$$.
-
Maybe what Rousey is more upset about is that Michael didnt use a condom on her. man has 8 gold medals...almost ruined his career not long after the last olympics ended with that 'bong' issue. maybe he thought with his head and decided to pick and choose whom he parties with..certainly not the likes of Rousey. What ever happened to being a team player..and keeping your mouth shut. your representing your country Rousey...do it with dignityand respect for your fellow US Olympians as well as yourself. your comments about condoms and being snobby have only showed your ignorance.what you really have to say means nothing. take a lesson from Michael and many other olympians who take pride in what they do, not only for themselves but how they represent themselves to the world in the name of being American, and on the US Olympic team. only an idiot like yourself, will bring this kind of limelight to our olympic athletes, because you are dateless on a saturday night, or you ran through a box of condoms in world record time. have respect for yourself and the people your respresenting. the NBA? Oh yes..that's right..the opitimy of how not to behave with all their sex and drugs and whores...., and your right in the middle of it all..worrying if Michael is keeping to himself to stay out of the limelight..concentrating on what he's there for, and making sure his name is kept out of the newspapers and tabloids since he learned his lesson the hard way. he and his mom/family, didnt work as hard as they did to bring Michael up front and center in all this. and he is humble enough to want to finally retire and live a normal life. do the US Olympic team a favor....give up your spot to some very well talented and deserving athlete who would give their eye teeth to be there. Go home to whatever hole you crawled out of and apologize first since im certain the broadcasters will relentlessly hang onto this for dear life taking the focus off of what these althletes are there for and their talents. but oh you wouldnot know that...except for this..what have you done lately? oh thats right..nothing. guess you had to do something to get your name in the papers.
-
well said!
-
Like Michael Phelps is a snob and like he wouldn't hang out with us and like now I am going to watch Teen Mom and like learn how to use proper English.
-
perfect. Like that guy wouldn't take my condoms and I offered to give him a bl0wjob, and he still wouldn't do it. Like who does he think he is - like the NBA players took them right away. He is sooooooooo uncool. Like 8 gold medals means he is better than me? like really?
-
These Olympic athletes need to get over themselves. Enough complaining about each other. Who really cares? I certainly don't. Is Rousey now going to write a book about her adventures at the Olympics? Recently, we heard from another member of the Olympic team from 2008 who stated she and her team mates were drunk when they were interviewed on the Today Show. Time to grow up and start acting like professional athletes. Is that to much to ask?
TMI about there sexual escapades at the Olympics. Keep it in house.....why do you need to share it with the rest of us? Is a form of bragging rights. Again, I don't care! -
Just told on yourself! You want to spend time with Michael - Michael does not want to spend time with you.
Phelps probably is interested in A LADY. Ladies don't give out these kinds of details in public. In fact, They both are shaking their heads at this article right now. -
also well put.
-
Rousey tries to make a name for herself by talking trash. She must be taking a cue from the tabloid media on how to do it. She informs us she wanted to hit Kim Kardashian. That in itself shows how low she will go. I don't care about reality tv shows. The Kardashians are not worth talking about, and Rousey needs to get a life, a real one!
-
I can't speak as to Michael Phelp's character because I've never met him. But I do believe that publicly speaking about others in an unkind way is NOT a sign of high moral character, and that Ms. Rousey (like all of us) ought to look a bit inward before being so critical of a teammate.
I am nowhere near any competitive level of any of these Olympians, but I can say that when I used to compete musically I became very introspective at competitions and spent a lot of private time centering myself. Partying and socializing absolutely would be been disastrous for me, and frankly I was too shy to party it up with others.
How sad for her to have displayed herself this way. But she is young, talented, and we all make mistakes. I hope she learns from this one. -
..how to get your name in the news. link your name to somebody famous.self-promotion 101 by ronda rousey. WHO ?
-
Look lady if you ever get good enough for one gold medal then just maybe anything you say might be worth listening to. So far I see you with zero and phelps with eight and counting. Clearly he is world class and you are a wanna be with a mouth.
-
Honestly I'm not suprised that M.Phelps did that if you're a swimmer in Maryland you know M.Phelps can come off as a jerk and a bit of a snob. i'm not saying that this makes him less of an american hero or a amazing athlete but it is true so..yeah
-
I live near B'more and heard the same thing along with the fact that he acted that way while drinking and playing poker at a casino in DE he was the same way.. Also I know that in the winter he was training at the Olympic Center and a bunch of Wounded Warriiors that were going to compete in the Warrior games were visiting and swimming and Phelps had the pool closed to them so he could swim he didn't even bother meeting them and they are the REAL HEROES in my book. To me that makes him an ass.
-
He was just looking out for his fellow Olympians - didn't want to them to get suspended from second-hand pot smoke. He seems like kind of a butt plug to me.
-
Once again you Americans proving yourselves to be the "Ugly American". Why can't you take pride in yourselves and act like a standup team - hold yourselves to some morals for pete sake!! Hope Solo was an embarrassment talking about being drunk and all the sex etc going on in the Olympic Village - now this total non class person talking about Michael Phelps! Who cares if he keeps to himself??!! Worry about your own conduct! Once again - GROW UP you bunch of spoiled brats! The rest of the world thinks far less of you then you think of yourselves that's for sure!! Any medals you win - you have to tarnish them with this trash talk!! Take pride in being winning those medals - the rest of us would surely think a lot more of you!
-
You sound jealous. And pathetic.
-
LOL - jealous of what?? Low class people on your Olympic team? Ahh - not so much! :)
-
so do you gdgates - I mean Rousey's little sister. Now go watch that Peter North video that your big sister gave you so you can be prepared for her next fight party!
-
So, liliy, you speak for the rest of the world? Do you ever get dizzy looking down youe nose at the rest of us? Idon't know where you're from but i'm sure there are some idiots there.Oh, yeah, you've proevn it! have a good day.
-
Lily36, you say YOU Americans. I noticed you claim to live in NM. So does that mean you aren't American? Which then leads us to ask, are you illegal?
-
Ronda is a bit jealous perhaps,is trying to prove something probably, and of dubious intelligence absolutely. I mean what person goes into boxing unless they are a penniless immigrant. We all know the mental toll it takes yet still this woman wants to prizefight for next to nothing. Name one boxer who has gotten rich our of all those in history. Being a former judoka, I know her mindset, having taught martial arts myself. It fosters a loaded gun mindset. She displays that in spades. A fight looking for a place to happen. And as often is the case, her mouth is working before her brain. Naybe Phelps is shy and doesn''t WANT to be your buddy or in your company. Maybe he doesn't want to have sex with you. Considering your advice on condoms, he is probably best to stay clear of an apparent **** jar like you. Go shag some roided up muscle head on the lifting team, or another female boxer. You don't apparently know the meaning of "team".
-
Rhonda, you need to learn some class and proper behavior. SHUT UP already. Maybe Michael is not the socializing type? Maybe he likes to keep to himself? Maybe he is introverted? There is nothing wrong in my opinion for someone to not want to engage in the hoopla and social aspects of the Olympics. What is wrong is someone like yourself being a negative big mouth and slamming someone because their behavior is not what YOU want or expect. Who the heck do you think you are making such judgements?
It appears to me that you are an opinionated BRAT! Good Luck in the Olympics but geeze learn some manners and when to keep your opinions to yourself.
-
Help me, Ronda! Help! Help me Ronda!
-
I think it's about time Ms. Ronda took the time to look at her own life and leave Michael's alone. He is a great Olympian and doesn't need her snotty comments intruding into his space. Act like a team member and you might be considered part of the team. Michael is a team player when it counts. He's proved it in 2008 and is going to try to prove it again this year. You don't need to "party hardy" to be a team member. YOU GO, MICHAEL!! WE'RE ALL BEHIND YOU. If you (Ronda) come home with any medals we might say "yeah" for you too.
-
Thanks for sharing, my respect for Michael Phelps has grown exponentially knowing he doesn't choose to associate with the likes of you!
-
an a$$ for what? Not hanging out at parties and giving cameramen the opportunity to snap a photo of you with some tramp that bends over or all the NBA players and hands out condoms? The guy wins because he knows how to prepare to swim, not to party. That's his business anyway - Anyone can get a table - he probably said hi to some and didn't want to get the group hug and be forced to suck down a few shots for "team unity" partying. Who the hell are you to judge him for keeping to himself. Get back to your Enquirer with one hand and do whatever you want with the other - In other words - Learn from Michael and keep your tripe to yourself too.
-
Phelps drilled Rousey and moved on one and done and Ronda is mad.
-
Ronda could be 100% correct, Phelps could be a dick premadonna, close himself off from other athletes, and deserve all their animosity.
But, uh...
How about after the games? Why throw distractions in as we APPROACH the olympics.
Idiot boxer... -
Typical media "story:" it's (a) misleading and (b) not really a story. The title of this article should be (but conveniently isn't, in order to make it seem like it's current "news"), "Ronda Rousey slams Michael Phelps for snobby behavior....IN 2008." And, as for Ms. Rousey, considering this is the first time I've ever heard your name and Michael Phelps has been a household name to just about everyone on the planet for years, please shut up and fade into oblivion where you and your big mouth belong. I hate holier-than-thou behavior just as much as anyone else, but it's one thing to be like that with no justification and totally another when you have EIGHT Olympic medals hanging around your neck. You win eight gold medals, Ms. Rousey, and we'll see where your head is.
-
It sounds like he shot her down. Those NBA guys will do anybody.
-
Phelps is cocky, he is demanding, but he is an amazing athlete, he knows what he needs to be that amazing, thats just it, if he wants to focus on why he is at the Olympics and nerves get to him, being by himself may help ease those nerves, don't judge, most people will never understand the pressure or what its like with all eyes on you whenever you succeed and fail.
Who the heck is this woman........thats right an unknown who wants another 5 minutes of fame, his talent speaks for itself, he is on his way to another olympics to win more medals, he doesn't owe anybody an apology for doing his work. Having been a swimmer for years and a coach for more, her comment about swimming being nothing big is rediculous, obviously she must have sucked at that too. -
Yeah. Stay classy, cupcake.
-
Rhonda, you need to grow up and smell the roses. Obviously you don't know the meaning of team player. there are no I's in team player. So why are you trying to trash such a great athlete as Michael. Maybe because you are an I player and not a team player. Nobody even knows you and really we don't care. Bring home the gold for team USA and maybe someone will acknowledge you, fat chance of that. You sound more like a ***** at the Olympics then an athlete. Michael had to overcome a lot in his life to get to where he is. If you were a swimmer you should know about all the hard work that goes into becoming a great swimmer. As for retirement, there are many former Olympians who continure with this great sport and are helping those who are beginning to become just like them and make USA proud. As for you , you wouldn't make me proud if hell froze. You remind me of white trash. so go home and get laid. We need athletes who care not ones who try to demolish others. Michael you will always be America's hero. You go Michael. We are behind you 100%.

Sounds like a childish little needs to just shut up.
-
He wasn't being a snob...the back room is where the bong is!
-
Excuse me I left out a word. Not enough coffee yet. I meant to say " sounds like a childish little girl just needs to shut up".

Get real, Ronda, if NBA players are hanging out, it is to meet young women. Remember the word player is an athletic term but is also diplomatic for sexual predator. These guys are not in London just to play basketball. Hitting on young girls, including Olympic athletes, and impressing them with all their fame and fortune is standard operating procedure for these guys and would probably get them less notoriety than hitting the local strip clubs and brothels. They are away from home.which usually means away from wives and regular girlfriends.
-
Do you know that for sure? From what I have heard many of the wives and girlfriends generally make the trip to the Olympics, so the "players", are not away from everyone as much as you seem to think.
You may be correct, some of these players may be "players" as well. There may be some who have the simple goal of getting some action besides the playing kind. There are also members of the Olympic Basketball teams (yes teams, because the NBA is very well represented), who are not trying to get extra action and are there for the same reason most people are.
I suspect more of them will shy away from any extra activities rather than engage in them. Why? The words rape alligations come to mind. The last thing anyone needs to is for NBA players to be accused of raping athletes either from the United States or from other countries. -
Rousey got a big mouth and a big body. Ronda seems lie white trash and ghetto white.
-
Well at least I dont see Rhonda being pulled over for DUI like Phelps..some example he is!
-
Mike is a shy guy. He never been very talkative.
-
Rhonda....you are suppose to put your foot in your opponents face not in your mouth. You talk too much...keep your mouth shut and focus on your game.
-
First time I met Michael Phelps he had come to our local pool to support a young swimmer who was dying from a brain tumor and who idolized Phelps. He stayed for our swim meet, participated in a parents relay and stayed to take pictures with every kid there. My kids also swam for a while at the same pool as he did and he was never anything less than friendly.
It is easy for those who know nothing to bash those who acheive greatness. It must be a sad existence to carry such envy and venom. -
I totally agree with your comments jbowers. Phelps has done these types of charitable acts a number of times and by all accounts is a very good person. To have someone like Rouse trash him because he choses to stay away from the nonsense that apparently goes on at the Olympics is ridiculous.
-
Rhonda......you are suppose to put your foot in your opponents face not in your mouth. You talk too much. Keep your mouth shut and focus on your game and you might win a medal.
-
Ok, who is this Rhonda Rouse anyways? I think she just wanted her 15 minutes of fame and now has it. Michael got burned by being too open - burned by this sensationalist media that has posted this stupid rant by this trailer trash "athlete" in this non-traditional made up sport. (ok, that was harsh, sorry, I respect her talent). Point is, Michael learned his lesson the hard way and now NEEDS to stay out of the spot light which he deserved to be in by virtue of his talent and representation of our country. I for one dont give a crap that he smoked pot. Good for him! He showed that he is a normal human being as well as a bigger than life star athlete! I wish I was the one smoking that bong w/ him celebrating! Anyone that looks down on Michael for being private and being a snob due to this article is un-educated and non-deserving of calling themselves American!
-
Bottomline.....Michael Phelps is an incredible athlete who has represented the USA very well in competition. As much as I like him for his competitive nature aspect and love him as a role model in that aspecti he tarnished his image with the smoking incident. I like many others will be cheering him on as he attempts to win gold once again for the Good Ole ' USA. I hope he has learned from his out of the pool indiscretions and understands he is not above the law or above being judged for poor choices. He does deserve a second chance to show he truly is a good role model for young kids and fans. A little arrogance etc is not uncommon for this level of competition and segregating himself from others well who knows why he did it but I agree it does not embrace being part of the team.
Now why are we bashing on the NBA players because it seems people are saying all NBA players are part of the US team simply to hang with other athletes for sex etc that their money fame breed. Give it all a break folks and focus on the essence of Olympics games, allowing great athletes to represent their country in a series of competitive sports waging battle against other great athletes from around the globe in a global event that happens every 4 years.
As for Ronda Rousey, save your trash talking for your next title defense versus trash talking one of your former US Olympic team mates (whether you like them or not), and by Olympic record etc, that Michael Phelps is the one of the greatest competitors of all time . -
You all sound like a bunch of babies haha calm down....Michael Phelps sucks ass
-
Not really everybody else sucks his ass because he so far ahead in his races they only see his ass, RETARD.
-
I've never heard of Rhonda Rouse...who is she? Honestly, who really cares what some random former athlete thinks about Phelps or any other Olympic athlete? It's unbelievable that we give almost anyone a platform these days. If these comments had come from someone of relevance, I guess I would care. From her...I could care less!
-
I don't know Micheal Phelps, never met him but, maybe he has a case of social anxiety? maybe his confidence hasn't caught up with his accomplishments/medals?
Just because someone doesn't interact w/you/others on YOUR timetable, or the way you think they should doesn't mean they are 'stuck up' or anti social...
You sound like a c**t Rouse... -
Why would anyone care what she has to say? She hasn't even won a gold medal.
-
Who's this dude Ronda? And why is he spouting off about Phelps? Oh, I get it, publicity for herself and sport. Maybe phelpsy didn't want to use one of the condoms Lousy...oops, Rousy gave him.
-
WHO CARES!
-
Michael Phelps is a SNOB!!. He did not want to take a picture with the Cuban Defector Swimmer who is missing his right arm and right leg. I guess Mr. Phelps is afraid of other swimmer winning GOLD MEDALS.
-
Yeah, that must be it. Idiot.
-
I am a former swimmer, not at the elite level, but at the college level. I currently work as an official and have worked with many officials who have worked elite level meets. I tend to take the opinions of those people, as well as people like Tyler Clary over some MMA fighter who spent two weeks as a team mate of Phelps 4 years ago. Phelps is a 4 time U.S. Olympian, having made the team in the 2000 butterfly in 2000 (did not medal), winning 6 gold and two bronze in 2004, 8 golds in 2008, and now being favored to win more golds in 2012.
With all of that said, I think the source is nothing credible, but I have heard from other people that what she says is somewhat truthful. I don't know if saying he is a snob is correct, but his personality is not that of an open, friendly, easily approachable and likeable person (from people who what been around him, including people who swam with him in Ann Arbor).
Phelps and Lochte are polar opposites when it comes to personality. Phelps tends to want to keep to himself, and shy away from the overt attention that 8 gold medals will draw. Lochte is very approachable and easy to talk to. They are very different people with different personalities.
One thing I do find interesting about Rouse's comments is the way she interjects the NBA players into it. One thing to remember about this. The NBA players who were on that team spend the majority of their time acting in a manner similar to the way she says Phelps acted. Why? A lot has to do with control. They have to spend time in control of who is around them and what is going on around them. When they don't have control bad things tend to happen. When out with the rest of the Olympic team, in a place like China, they are not the center of attention they way they would be in Europe or the United States. Different places mean different attitudes.
Now as for Phelps and his away from the pool issues. I think that goes to what he fully admitted. He did let down on his training compared with what he had done previously. That happens when you have spent 8 plus years training at an elite level. I have no problem with him letting the training go some, he earned that. His away from the pool legal issues were something he should have been smarter about, but he was still somewhat of a kid. Let's not forget he was only at the Olympics in China. Many 23 year olds make stupid decisions. The important question, did he learn from them? - See more comments >>
