Jim Tressel had planned on fighting for his job and retained a lawyer for the upcoming NCAA hearing. This morning, Memorial Day, Tressel has instead resigned as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Less than 13 weeks from the start of the 2011 season, the Buckeyes will be led by assistant coach Luke Fickell who was already going to serve as interim coach while Tressel was suspended for the first five games of the season.
The NCAA is certainly not done with the Buckeyes. Ohio State is likely trying to make the violations appear to be Tressel's doing and not their own. It won't matter to the NCAA.
