Remember that one movie "Dumb and Dumber"? The one where one guy would do something stupid and the other guy would do something stupider! I think you know where I'm going with that.
Remember the 2010 college football season? You know the one where Arkansas was 5-1 and ranked #12 and Auburn was 6-0 and ranked #7; you know, the last time Arkansas and Auburn played at Jordan Hare stadium in Auburn, Alabama. The same season where Auburn and Cam Newton shocked the college football world by going 14-0 and winning the BCS National Championship.
Don't remember that? Seems like a distant memory right. This time around Arkansas sits at 1-4 while Auburn is 1-3 and both are begging the football Gods for a victory. Arkansas' fall from grace has been very publicized. Auburn's has been a bit more under the radar.
Arkansas boasts one of the worst defenses in the country(14th in the SEC and 116th in the NCAA) and Auburn boasts one of the worst offenses in the country(14th in the SEC and 113th in the NCAA). This one sets up to be a very intriguing match up, that is if you like futility. On paper this game seems to be so bad that it might actually be good.
Let's just compare numbers shall we.......Arkansas averages 417 yards/game on offense while Auburn's defense allows 419 yards/game. Auburn's offense averages 297 yards/game while Arkansas' defense allows 510 yards/game. The Razorbacks passing game is what drives them averaging 310 yards/game. While Auburn's running game has carried them to the tune of 153 yards/game. The Tigers passing offense has been abysmal averaging 145 yards/game. The Hogs passing defense has been abysmal'er allowing 349 yards/game. To tell the truth the Tiger passing game and the Hog passing defense have been much, much worse to watch than even the numbers show.
I don't really expect much out of this game and the loser is well on its way to what probably could be called one of, if not the, worst seasons in the school's history. I'm basing my pick on the fact that:
- Auburn is at home
- While a good offense sells tickets, a good defense tends to win games; Auburn's defense is way better than Arkansas.
- Offensive woes can be tweaked and fixed, while defensive woes are what they are.
Arkansas 27, Auburn 48
