Too White Hype?
When you check out sports websites you never know what you might read. Actually this time it wasn’t a purely sports website’s article that caught my eye. This one came from Yahoo!’s front page.
Interesting stuff about how the Minnesota Timberwolves roster defies the typical NBA roster in that it’s only 33% black, where as in 2011 75% of the NBA rosters as a whole were made up of black players.
Yes, it appears as if a mostly white roster in Minnesota has ruffled a few civil-rights activists’ feathers in the twin cities. They seem to think its “strategy” and not “happenstance” considering how the team has a mostly white fan base. They almost got me for a second; almost had me thinking “you know what, maybe they have a point,” but I thought better of it. In the words of the famous Monday Night Football Pre-Game segment, C’Mon Man! Are they seriously whining about a roster being mostly white? Not to mention the fact that 5 of the 10 “white” players on the Timberwolves roster are actually born outside of America, this would make their roster quite diverse. And shouldn’t civil-rights activists advocate for diversity?
