“I would have liked to see him get a chance.”
New York Jets defensive end Mike DeVito said those words in a radio interview with WFAN. Who was he referring to? Of course he was speaking of his teammate, unused Jets quarterback Tim Tebow.
“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel for Tim and how it went down,” DeVito continued. “Tim has such an intangible in the type of leader and the type of person that he is. I feel like it makes everybody around him play at a higher level.”
“I think he’s a great leader, I think he’s a guy that could have won games for us, and I think that’s why we had him here,” DeVito added.
I agree with everything that DeVito said. And I am thankful that he said it. Tebow, a two time NCAA national champion, Heisman trophy winner, NFL starter and playoff winning quarterback for the Denver Broncos last season deserves a chance. He has more than earned at least that much.
My only gripe with DeVito is why did he wait until now to say it? Why didn’t he have the guts to say it during the season, when it might have made a difference.
