• My All-Star break to do list

  I am really worried about the NBA All-Star break. My team, the Sacramento Kings, doesn’t play for 5 straight nights. I am definitely going to go into withdrawals. To help occupy my time, I have come up with a to do list. Feel free to add your suggestions.

  1. Write a novel.
  2. Finish my “honey do” list.
  3. Solve the Middle East crisis.
  4. Lose 50 pounds.
  5. Fix Charlie Sheen’s personal problems.
  6. Start up a Fortune 500 company.
  7. Win a Nobel Peace Prize.
  8. Brainwash Stephen A. Smith to agree with Skip Bayless on ESPN’s First  Take.
  9. Help Michael Jordan celebrate his 50^th birthday.
  10. Get Donald Trump to fire Woody Johnson and Rex Ryan.

• Love me some Lolo

  This morning I went go-go for Lolo. Olympic gold medalist in track and new competitor to the sport of  bobsledding, Lolo Jones appeared on ESPN’s First Take today. She addressed the controversy surrounding Ray Lewis openly sharing his faith and his belief that it is God’s will for the Baltimore Ravens to win Sunday’s Super Bowl. She responded with maturity and humility. Here are some of the things she had to say.

  “There have been times for me where I felt like it was God’s will for me to have a successful season. But I also felt like it was God’s will, as well, to help me to learn from certain losses.“

  “I just know that God is a huge factor in my life and whether He wants to promote me or humble me that is in His hands. I don’t think God cares about a certain game or race or performance but He does care about the condition of our heart. So I hope that whether we have success or we have failures that we always rely on Him for our strength during the whole process.”

  “This was the first year that I experienced getting scrutinized for my beliefs. I thought that people would be more accepting of me coming out and talking about me waiting to have sex before marriage. And little did I know that it’s actually easier for you to release a sex tape in nowadays society than to tell people that you do not want to have sex before marriage.”

  “If it’s something that you’re passionate about you definitely have to stand strong for what you believe in. “

  I am proud of her. I appreciated her strong Christian testimony. It takes guts to talk about abstinence and live it out in the real world. Rather than being scrutinized, Jones needs to be celebrated. Way to go Lolo!

• eXcellent X Games

  We are addicted to sports in our house. Not a single calendar day goes by without some sporting event being watched. In between sporting events we are glued to ESPN and the NFL Network for the latest sports news.

  Since this is sort of a slow time for sports with football phasing out, we are experimenting with new types of sports programming, the X Games. So far, it has been a lot of fun. Earlier this week on ESPN we caught the Men’s Ski Slopestyle Elimination round and the Snowboard Street event from Aspen, Colorado.

  Wow! Those stunts are amazing. I have never been skiing or snowboarding in my entire life. I am convinced I would break every bone in my body. These competitors don’t just ski, they do it at high speeds while flipping and twisting through the cold, thin air. It is such fun to watch. My six year old is fascinated by the acrobatics. Truth be told, he giggles some when they fall, too. Thankfully that hasn’t happened much since we’ve been watching. The ones who have crashed have not been seriously injured. I am actually surprised that we haven’t seen more carnage since the stunts are so advanced.

  The Winter X Games have been a nice change of pace. I can easily see us getting addicted to these sports as well. Just what we need, more sports and athletes to follow. Oh well, it could be worse. At least we don’t have to worry about getting injured. We’re just watching.

• Topsy-turvy Tebow

  It was a topsy-turvy football season for Tim Tebow. At least it felt that way for his fans. I am one of them. Will he get to start this week? Will he even get to play?

  Now that the offseason is upon us, it remains topsy-turvy. Will the New York Jets release him? Will they keep him? Will they trade him? Who wants him? It is enough to make this fan’s head spin more than that famous wheel that makes Vanna White clap.

  There is recent speculation that he might join his former coach Mike McCoy in his new gig with the San Diego Chargers. Some say he’d be a good fit for Chip Kelly’s offense with the Philadelphia Eagles. And there are of course the naysayers, like ESPN’s resident Grinch, Merril Hoge, who say he doesn’t belong in the NFL.

  What’s going to happen? I wish I knew. It feels to me, though, that the Jets are going to keep him. That isn’t what I want to have happen. I want him to go to a new team that will use him, respect him and START him. The Jets, after the way they treated him last season, don’t deserve Tim Tebow. Right now, however, they have him and I don’t think they are going to let him go. Maybe for no other reason than that they can keep him. Maybe to be spiteful to all of the Tebow fans who have loathed the Jets ownership and coaching staff. It doesn’t make any sense, but that is the Jets’ organization. They don’t make any sense.

  I think Tim Tebow is going to stay in New York. I must begin to prepare myself for another disappointing and topsy-turvy year.

• First Take fan

  I watch almost every day now. I guess you could say I have “embraced debate.” That’s the theme of one of my new favorite shows, ESPN’s First Take. For two hours, five days a week, two sports reporters debate the latest games and gambles of the NFL, NBA and MLB.

  Skip Bayless is my favorite debater. I usually find myself agreeing with him. He is older, wiser and a Tim Tebow fan. That’s why I originally started watching, because Bayless was and still is one of the only sports media personalities who support Tebow’s quest to become, once again, a starting NFL quarterback.

  Bayless’ debate opponent is Stephen A. Smith. I’m not a big fan of Smith. It is sort of like the way I felt about the old Fox News Channel show Hannity & Colmes. I loved Sean Hannity, couldn’t stand Alan Colmes. On First Take, Smith is more urban and bombastic than his fellow debater. He is probably a good foil for Bayless but he doesn’t believe in Tebow so I can’t officially warm up to him.

  But why should he care, I’m still watching.
