The Washington Wizards have fired coach Flip Saunders today after a 2-15 start to the season.
Saunders coached the Wizards for a shade over two seasons and compiled a record of 51-130. Even with the drafting of John Wall, Saunders and the Wizards could never seem to get it together and Saunders had to get the ax.
Wizards assistant coach Randy Wittman will take over as coach for the remainder of the season. Wittman last coached the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2008-09 season and was fired after a 4-15 start. Wittman, who also coached the Cleveland Cavaliers, has coached for five seasons and has never had a winning record as coach with a 32-50 mark as his best season in 1999-2000 with Cleveland.
Wittman will make his Wizards coaching debut tomorrow night at home against the 3-14 Charlotte Bobcats.
