U.S. Army All-American Bowl High School Player of the Week: Maty Mauk
11/8/11: The U.S. Army All-American Bowl High School Player of the Week is Maty Mauk of Kenton High School in Kenton, Ohio. The Missouri bound quarterback achieved almost all that is possible at the high school level on Friday night in a 74-22 Division IV playoff win over Wellington, yet it is not his performance in this single game that has earned him Player of the Week honors.
Mauk's impressive play against Wellington marked something much bigger. He broke his brother Ben's national record of 17,364 passing yards in just the third play of the game. With up to four playoff games remaining, Mauk now holds the national record for passing yards (17,869), total yards (21,046), passing attempts (1,974), completions (1,272) and touchdown passes (208).
Mauk began the game against Wellington with 19 consecutive pass completions, an Ohio record. He went 27 of 29 for 505 yard and nine touchdowns on the night, tying another Ohio single game record. On the ground, he added 93 yards on 11 carries to finish with almost 600 yards of total offense. (With 7:04 left in the third quarter, he exited the game for the night after throwing his ninth TD pass and having secured victory for Kenton.)
Only the state championship remains for Maty Mauk and he looks to accomplish that with his Kenton teammates in their remaining four games.
