Since Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson’s bout in December last year, it has been one controversy after another. First it was referee Joseph Cooper’s deduction of points from Khan in the first round, a decision that caused Khan to loose his WBA and IBF titles to Peterson. Then the sinister Mustafa Ameen, who appeared on the ringside and played around with the scoresheets, manipulating figures in favour of Peterson. It took a protest from CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, Richard Schaefer to make the WBA leadership aware of how Ameen’s conduct affected the outcome of the bout. The WBA immediately ordered a rematch to be staged within 180 days last month. Now it’s official. The date (May 19) and venue (Mandalay Bay Hotel, Las Vegas) is set for the much awaited rematch between Khan and Peterson.
