Missouri had a head coach for the 2012 season, until Mike Anderson decide to return to his roots and head coach at Arkansas. Missouri thought they found their guy to replace Anderson when Matt Painter from Purdue expressed some interest in the job. He decided to stay at Purdue. Now they have been sitting around waiting for THAT guy, but have yet to find him even though they wanted to hire someone before the Final Four (which is this weekend).
NC State on the other hand, fired (he resigned) their coach Sidney Lowe for a fresh start at boosting their basketball program back to the top. NC State has not gone public with any of their candidates unlike Missouri's candidates have been. The only candidate that was found out was Josh Pastner (Memphis coach), who turned down the job. NC State may also be holding out for Brad Stevens or Shaka Smart, but their program is in too much disarray. Unlike Missouri, they did not have a certain time they wish to hire a new coach.
