Drama continues in Bloomington

According to three sources close to the program, Indiana basketball players Armon Bassett and Jamarcus Ellis have been kicked off the team by IU's interim head coach Dan Dakich. The sources say that Bassett and Ellis were required to run at 6am the day after the two missed an arranged meeting with coach Dakich and never showed.

According to ESPN.com's Andy Katz, Tom Crean has been hired to clean up the mess in Bloomington.

If it wasn't for bad luck, Indiana wouldn't have any. STAY TUNED....

I know. Can it get any uglier?

Well, Sampson screwed up our program at OU, now his ghost will doom Indiana. They should find a coach soon. They will be shopping at the Final Four.

Tom Crean

Fiverings - We actually just updated the post. According to Andy Katz they are on the verge of signing Tom Crean.

Cool......he's a good coach with a clean resume. Good hire.

Are you happy with Jeff Caple as your coach now?

Very happy. He had his work cut out for him with the mess Sampson left. We had Scottie Reynolds, Damian James and another big recruit and they all left when Sampson did. OU just gave Capel an extension. I heard South Carolina was courting him. We have one of the best point guards in the country coming in Willie Warren next season along with some sizeable junior college players. I think Capel will have them back to being very competitive in the Big 12 very soon.

That was key giving him that extension he might have been enticed to go to S.C to be closer to his VA roots, good job by OU.

I agree. He's a good young coach. Another couple of years will tell the story. With Blake Griffin there and the players they have coming in, he should be fine.

I wonder if Indiana University liked the fact that an interim coach dismissed two of their players

They can't like that.

it's not the fact that he dismissed them, it's the fact that the administration allowed him the authority to do so. they handled the situation wrong from the time they put together a hiring committee while the team was preparing for Arkansas for the first round of the tourney. In his position, Dakich HAD to let them go, but it's my guess that Bassett is 75% likely to return to the squad and Ellis 50%.

If Bob Knight was still there i know for a fact bassett wouldn't even be allowed to walk into Assembly Hall. The kid couldn't count rocks if they were numbered. Thats how stupid he is. He shouldn't be allowed to play anyway. And if they can't show up for a meeting, and then take the punishment for it, then they don't deserve to wear the jersey.

Kind of like the same thing that happened here in Dallas when Bill Parcells kicked someone off the team for falling asleep in a meeting. You have to send a message to the rest of the team that crap like this won't be toleterated.
