The Jet Stream:
Jets QB Mark Sanchez has been named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month, the league announced today. He became the first player in the Jets history to receive the honor, which has been handed out since 1996. LB David Harris won the defensive version in 2007.
It was a better-than-expected month for Sanchez, who won his first three starts (the first rookie QB in history to start a season that way) and compiled a solid 87.7 passer rating. He committed only three turnovers.
Who was his competition?
I'd say Vikings WR Percy Harvin (12 catches, 128 yards, 2 TDs) was the primary competition. Harvin also scored on a kickoff return, but, remember, this was the offensive award. Interestingly, the Jets tried to draft Harvin after grabbing Sanchez, attempting to move back into the first round.
Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno (46 rushes, 184 yards, 4.0 average, 1 TD) and Eagles RB LeSean McCoy (34 rushes, 148 yards, 4.4, 1) also had very good months.
