Theo Ratliff, who played for the Sixers from 1997 to 2001 and has since played with five different franchises, is coming back to Philly after signing a one year deal with the Sixers. Ratliff is 35 years old, but is still a decent big man with good shot blocking abilities. While this isn't an earth shattering move, signing another big man became a necessity after the Sixers learned they may be without Jason Smith for the year, and Ratliff makes a good veteran compliment to Samuel Dalembert at the center position.
This signing completes your 2008-2009 Sixers roster. Here is the team that will take the floor next season:

SG Andre Iguodala

That's a deep team, it has all the makings of a team that can make a run in the playoffs with their nice mix of vets and youngsters.

Welcome back Theo. I like the move

I don't think that they'll have to trade Willie. Iggy can easily move to the SF position when they go to a true 2 guard set. Ideally Iggy isn't a 2 guard anyway but he's probably their best player for the position because of his scoring ability--mostly going to the lane and not jumpers but that's okay. Besides all of that Willie provides depth/experience/scoring ability off of the bench if one of our main guys gets into foul trouble or gets injured. I'm not quite sure what to expect from Rush or Ivey just yet. Either way I do like this team alot, they've done alot to improve during the offseason. Now, we have all 4 Philly teams that can be competitive for quite some time.

I just don't think there's enough minutes to go around for Green, Ivey and Rush to all play shooting guard, along with the starter, Iggy. Plus, Lou Williams can play shooting guard, too. They aren't going to trade Rush or Ivey, so I think Green might have to go.

haha NICE...definitely called that one last week!

You sure did! I think you called it right after they signed Iggy.

Wow. He will be a nice addition.

Don't Call Him Iggy, He Doesn't Like It
"I don't like 'Iggy,' I don't mind 'The Other A.I.,' " Andre Iguodala said in an interview with the Phialdelphia Daily News. "It just shows the fans are watching basketball and know what I do. I want to be 'Dre, that's it." Great article on 'Dre, including getting to the Olympics in 2012 and his new 6-year deal.

Remembrance of Stiffs Past
The Sixers have signed 35-year-old contract punchline Theo Ratliff to a one-year deal. When last seen, the Rattler was providing deep bench minutes for the Pistons in their playoff with Boston, and he's not, you know, good. Plus, at 35, he's not getting better, or less brittle. But at least he does something (weak side shot blocking -- note, not on the ball defense) well...
Celtics Update Time!
It's been a while since we've written about the 17 time NBA Champion Boston Celtics, so I thought I'd share a couple of interesting items for your enjoyment.
The first is about our Dirt Dog of the Hardwood, Leon Powe. Hoops Addict is running their "Floor Burn Tournament" which was created to give credit to the hardest working, albeit lesser-known NBA players...
