Tyreke Evans leaning in Villanova's direction

Tyreke Evans, the super-talented American Christian Academy guard and MVP of the McDonald's All- American Game, said last night that he was leaning heavily toward picking Villanova after making an official visit with the basketball coaching staff Tuesday night.

"After eating with Jay and talking to Jay, he kept it real with me," Evans said of the meeting with Villanova coach Jay Wright. "He told me the things I wanted to hear and some things I didn't want to hear but will make me a better player."

Evans, the nation's top unsigned basketball recruit, and several relatives and a family friend attended a two-hour meeting with Wildcats staff at Wright's Main Line residence.

"He showed me the respect he has for the players and how much of a family they are," Evans said.

Villanova's strong pitch made a strong impression. "They pretty much wanted 'Reke's undivided attention," said Reggie Evans, Tyreke Evans' older brother and legal guardian.

"It was a very thorough, detailed visit," said Lamont Peterson, an assistant coach at American Christian. "They went over how they planned to use him, how they could help him" in his quest to reach the NBA.

In addition to Evans, his older brothers - Reggie, Doc and Pooh - cousin Meek Evans, and Peterson visited with Wright and his staff.

Evans has said his list of college choices is narrowed to Villanova, Memphis, Texas and Connecticut. The 6-foot-6 Evans said he would announce his decision on April 16, the first day of the spring signing period.

ESPNU and ESPN News both plan to carry the press conference live.

Evans also made an official visit to Memphis and unofficial stops at Texas, Connecticut, Seton Hall and Louisville. Evans will not make any more visits.

"For me, it's about who can take 'Reke, break him down and build him back up," Reggie Evans said of the decision. "There are good and bad perks about staying close to home and playing. . . . People say I will have [a major influence on the decision], but this is 'Reke's decision."

Evans, a Parade All-American, will compete in the 11th annual Nike Hoop Summit on April 12 in Portland, Ore. While there, he and his brothers will go over his options, Reggie Evans said. He said they hope to come close to having a decision before they head back home.

"We are going to sit down and say, 'This [current college player] is leaving' " for the NBA, Reggie Evans said. 'This is who is staying.' "

At least one person close to Tyreke is pulling for the Wildcats. Peterson, who wore a Villanova T-shirt on Evans' visit to Memphis, would love for him to stay home.

"Jay is a great coach," Peterson said, referring to Wright. He pointed out that Wright's former guards - Kyle Lowry and Randy Foye - are both in the NBA. Another former 'Nova guard, Allan Ray, is playing professionally in Italy after a season with the Boston Celtics.

"He's proven to be a great guard coach," Peterson said of Wright. "If Tyreke stayed home, it would be great for the community."

Evans averaged 29 points, eight rebounds, six assists and 4.3 steals per game this season. After the Nike Hoop Summit, the 18-year-old will play in the Jordan Brand All-American Game on April 19 at Madison Square Garden.

I'm sure Dewey aka D-Man will be happy to hear this

You know it, TC! Tyreke is talented, though I will say this: I heard he carried himself very poorly at the McDonald's All-American game. Hogging the ball and sulking when the coach pulled him out. Did anyone watch the game? I was working late and missed it, unfortunately.

TC, did you hear that Taylor King is considering Villanova, too? He's leaving Duke and it's down to 'Nova and Gonzaga.

it really doesn't matter cuz he sucks

C'mon... he's not THAT bad! Is he? Come to think of it, he did spend a lot of time on the bench this season.

The only thing he was good for was shooting 3's and he was bad at that too

Taylor King really isnt bad... He will be good where somebody really needs him to perform... Tyreke would not be on my team... Just from watching the all american game.. I bet one of the things Jay told him was he wasnt going to be able to hog the ball... That probably made him upset... He will be good, but I have a feeling that when the season roles around that if he is scoring 25 plus nova will be losing... when ever he starts puttin 18 ppg, 5 assist, and 5 boards, you will see nova start winnin a lot more games... He is an athlete though...

Honestly, everyone was playing for themselves in the All-American game: Brandon Jennings was unabashedly going for the assist record, and when he realized he wasn't going to get it, he shot literally every time he had the ball within 25 feet of the hoop.

Dajuan Blair will stuff this kid

DaJuan Blair is a beast, nuff said

damn TC...I actually agree with you for once haha

We shall see...

I'm happy Villanova got him...I've never figured out why but I like Villanova a lot...every time March Madness rolls around, I favor them...so I'm glad a player I've never heard of went to a team that I like but don't know why

Well, he's not going there yet. Just rumored to be leaning toward Villanova. It's on his short list, and his H.S. coach wants him to go to 'Nova.

Leaning HEAVILY towards Nova. His brother and legal guardian is Reggie Evans, who plays for the Sixers, and he wants him at Nova. Look at the guards Jay Wright has developed. This would be unbelievable if he went here. It was basically 100% he was going to Memphis. This could make Nova a legitimate title contender in two years definitely, if not next year.

In two years? What do you think he is going to donate a new practice facility in 2010 off his signing bonus in the NBA? This kids not going to be in college for two years!

Yeah, for real. JffMol is right.

The plan is for TE to be in for two years and then leave. Jay will break him down next year and he will dominate in his soph year and then turn pro.

Is Scottie Reynolds coming back next year?

probably...hes nowhere near NBA ready

I agree 100% but apparently he's considering it... crazy.

next Sixer point guard anyone? Thaddues Young's gonnabe huge, he posted numbes better than KG when they played against each other...in less time. TIme for our 4th ring yall.
