Imagine if the Patriots trade their 7th pick to the Eagles for Lito Sheppard. That would give the Eagles the ability to parlay the 7th and 19th picks for Jake Long, Vernon Gholston, Chris Long, or Darren McFadden. Let's play a little what if....

It would take the 19th pick and Lito to get the 7th overall pick. They would ONLY do this if they had the chance to get Vernon Gholston. I highly doubt it, but it COULD happen. Also, they might move up to select CB Leodis McKelvin if they really like the kid. These are the only 3 players I see the Eagles really wanting if they trade up to spots 7-10.

Even with the 19th pick and Lito, there is no way New England makes that trade. The 7th pick is more valuable than that package. Sorry, Philly fans.

Agreed, you don't trade into the top 10 that easily.
      • my head hurts and it's only 6:50 am. on good friday morning

I still think there is a chance. After Jake Long, Chris Long, Gholston, McFadden, and Dorsey there is a huge drop off in talent. The reason I think there is a good chance that a straight up Lito for 7th trade could be made is because the Pats are forced to pick a CB at 7 and if I'm Belichick, I go with a proven 2 time Pro-Bowler Sheppard over an unproven rookie like McKelvin or Jenkins.

One thing you're forgetting is the fact that, if indeed Lito is upset with his contract, the Patriots would be inheriting that problem. And knowing how Belichick is...he'll want to pick the guy HE wants, whether its McKelvin, Jenkins, or Rodgers-Cromartie

It's a Catch-22. If there is a huge drop-off in talent, why trade up? If there is someone there worth taking with the #7 pick, then there's no huge drop-off in talent.

Because the Eagles could address 2 needs in the 1st round. With the #7 they can take a guy like Clady and then with the #19 pick they have their option of addressing S with Kenny Phillips or WR with Limas Sweed, James Hardy, or Malcolm Kelly.

no zzawarski.... your not very smart
  • Jateagles
You know with the Love affair Big Red has with O-Line Men you would think he would find away to get up their to grab Jake Long we need a Tackle and this guy is All-World.

      Placard_complete_small
don't need a tackle that badly
      • WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!! tre thomas and jon runyan are on the brink of retirement, how can you honestly sit there and say that? whos supposed to replace them? winston-justice, the guy who gave up 64 sacks in 1 game against the giants? i know hell get better but thats only one, we need another? dont need a tackle that badly, no knowledge fuckin eagles fan, you should be ashamed of yourself.

I'll respond to your childish rant against my better judgement. Herremans will replace WILLIAM thomas...his name isn't TRA anymore, so know your shit. MJG will be our LG and they're grooming Justice for RT...his natural position. That being said...I never said we didn't deep to draft for depth...just not for the sake of needing to get a guy in round 1. Do you know anything about the upcoming draft class this year??? It is absolutely LOADED with talented lineman and they can pick up a stud in rounds 2-4. We don't need a lineman desperately enough to have to trade into the top 10....so calm down jackass.

Again, your post lacks any useful knowledge/insight/facts and so on. You wasted the entire paragraph on insults and attempts to discredit me and said nothing. You remind me of a young Freddie Mitchell at the podium being interviewed. He had so much to say, yet so little to back it up on the field.

I agree he loved Line men but if jake long doesent go at least top 8 then there is a possibility of reid trading to get him.

Jake long will go top 5 probably top3
  • we trade lito to the bills for their # 11 pick and draft Malcom Kelly, the best WR in the draft. we keep our draft pick at 19 and draft ryan clady the 2nd best OT in the draft. we get the best talent at our biggest needs in the draft.... no pats involved, i wish people would use their brains when posting shit, at least make logical sense, there is NOTHING logical about moving up to 7, the bills just signed sorry ass william james, i hardly doubt thats their permanent fix at CB. lito is a pro-bowl CB and the bills play in a division with the pass happy pats, rookies wont help them, lito is perfect fit.
  • pecophilly
You have to look at the Draft chart. To trade up into the top 10 takes A LOT, not a LITO.

Be realistic, Birds will stay at 19, possible move up a FEW spots. I have faith in our Drafting abilities.

    Go Birds!

Lito's value is dropping due to the Deangelo Hall trade to the raiders. Supposedly, according to ESPN the Raiders are offering a 2nd and a 6th round pick for the young, speedy DB. On top of all of that he's apparantly going to be signing a contract that will almost mirror what we signed Asante to. Lito is a good player, even great at times when healthy but we will not get a 1st round pick for him bottom line. Seems like a 2nd or 3rd will be the going rate for a player that has missed as many games as he has. No team is going to just give up a 1st rounder for Lito. Personally I would like to keep him around. He has never said that he didn't want to play in Philly anymore. Let the DB competition begin! We'll have one of the nastiest secondaries in the league if everyone plays their abilities and stays healthy. Now on that ever so popular WR front, if we make a trade and get a No. 1 then great I'm all for it but realistically if we get a WR it will be through the draft and will not be the 19th pick. Malcolm Kelly will most likely be gone at that point and besides no WR that we draft will automatically make this team "THAT" much better..

Doesn't supply and demand come into play at some point? I understand where you're going with that and teams will use that in bargaining talks...but who else is available? If, and I'm not saying there, there is a team out there that desperately wants a game tested CB badly enough...what other options do they have?
    • zzawarski
      Placard_complete_small
Plus the DeAngelo situation is very different and the 2nd round pick is an EARLY 2nd round pick... What is is number 36 or something? There will be plenty of 1st round talent still available at 36.
  • anyone who suggests that the patriots will give up the seventh overall choice for lito sheppard is dumb.....did u hear me....DUMB........that is one of the more ridiculous sports suggestions I have ever heard.
    • zzawarski
      Placard_complete_small
Relax there, it's just a little wishful thinking.
  • It's never gonna happen! New England isn't that dumb. Plus Eagles need stud receiver not someone who is gonna take 3 to 5 years to develop such as a lineman or backup. It will be to late by then.
  • lucky to get a 3rd for lito...sux but jsut the reality of how trades work these days in nfl...a package deal would be nice....ocho-cinco def not going to be in cincy next year...though the bengals have addresed some 2ndary needs in recent years...
  • phillyfanpat5
Lucky to get a third? D-Hall went for a high second and I believe a 5th round for next years draft. Lito has a better attitude and plays at a higher level. I dont know about Lito going for a one, but we could deffinitly get a second round draft pick for him.
    • hope ur right pat...keep in mind hall was traded to arguably the worst franchise in football, with the worst front office.....not every team is going to "bite" that hard for the bait...you also can't ignore the injury issues, valid or not as they may be...
  • you cant simply compare lito to hall as far as what the RAIDERS are trading for him because we all know Al Davis is the worst owner in sports and he overpays for everything, they obviously made the best deal with the falcons and are willing to take on his attitude as well as abilities. hall doesnt have injury problems either, and with the raiders not in the trade market for lito the only way we could get a first round pick would be if we traded him for a teams first rounder next year, to a team that feels it is on the rise and that it would be a late first round pick. the patriots would not trade straight up for the 7th pick, our best bet would be to use lito for a proven nfl player at a need position , to the bills for lee evans for example, each team fills a need. or we could use him with our 19th pick to trade down to pick mid 20's in the first round and also get a teams 2nd round pick so we can draft kenny phillips then take an OT and WR with our 2 picks in the 2nd round or if we love a player we can package our 2 2nd rounders to move up and get someone, either early 2nd round or a late first round pick.
    or
keep lito and draft phillips, have the best secondary in the nfl and have 4 proven db's in dawk lito brown and samuel to show phillips the ropes, and while he gets his PT his mistakes wont be earth shattering due to the help he would have in the backfield? just a thought
    • like the idea--what i've been preachin'...lito's gonna work hard and have a helluva year regardless...he wants that 9 or 10 that asante and hall got nxt year...for all that to work we need to make sure we really do haev the players we think we do in regards to getting pressure on qb...the idea does bring back the feeling of those defenses from the beginning of the decade--the true reason we won all those games anyway
  • we need to trade lito for a first round pick doesnt matter which one, a perfect first round to me would be getting kenny phillips and limas sweed. then we get an OT in the 2nd round.

for this year we dont need O linemen...but for the future we do, but why mcfadden? we dont need a star RB
  • phillyboy36
toobigpeck do u think that lito sheppard is enought for the 11th pick? i think they would have to throw in another player or somethin or cash
  • Stop belittling Lito, it is amazing.Lito is a two time pro bowler in one of the if not the greatest secondary this decade, yeah i said it. Lito is definitely worth the 7th I would take it as New England, but as Philly I would just draft Cromartie, Kelly, or Sedrick Elliis. I mean giving up Lito basically means finding som1 to cover, i love Mikell but we need a pro bowl strong safety, Sheldon Brown is it. I dont think u guys remember the one year Sheldon SS,Weapon FS, Lito and Vincent. Mikell is great but he just serves as depth, like Reed. I hate talking about secondary cus i get too into it. Ask me, ill tell we need to give Tanard Davis a chance. He is a former Hurricane, they work wonders for us.If we trade lito well prob get Cromartie to cover. WE HAVE TOO MANY DBS, Here are the non starters, most likely Sean Considine, J.R. Reed, Joselio Hanson, CJ Gaddis, Therrian Fontenot, Nick Graham, Tanard Davis. The list is crazy. Joselio and Nick along wiith a 2nd and 3rd prove a great package. (Trust me, teams are eager to get our DBs) Getting lito means getting cromartie, and Mikell is great but i cant rely on him after his first int which he fumbled. I dont know Its tricky, I REALLY like Hardy, Great size just a prototype all around. I wouldnt mind Philips and Hardy as first. rounders, but giving Lito to new england doesnt make sense. To New Orleans it does, but i doubt it. Lito is our problem no one really wants him (imagine the day we wouldbe saying that) Lito could be inline to having a breakout season for Philly 9 ints to prove us wrong. Come on, cowboy killa
  • Tblitz25
If the Pats wanted Lito they would not have signed Fernando Bryant yesterday. They will surely draft a corner or Lb They will get a player they want and need. If this trade does happen It will have to include Lito and at a minimum and Second rounder.

We need tot rade lito , I love the way he plays and I think he is great but we need a wr..Bad.... We need to push why we can our Oline is getting older by the day... and we need to run with this why we can.. I am a die hard eagles fan, and I have heard the rumors of lee evans, reggie wayne, roy williams, fitzgerald, bouldin, chad johnson... I love that the eagle sare being agressive.. Lito is our bait as well as our draft pick we need a big name player... I mean if we could get the 7th pick who could we grab.. Our last reciever drafter in the first round if we all remember was from Ucla Named Freddie Mitchel... Who has the biggest catch in eagles History!!!4th and 26
    • reds---i know ur not speaking favorably about fred-ex...please tell me there's saracasm there cuz i failed to detect any...

I love my Birds, and we need to get everything into check, as The Giants came from nowhere and took the Superbowl. That means the Giants are the team to beat... They let Usi Umenyiora abuse Winston Justice. That tackle spot is what concerns me...

I mean the real question is, would the cheating Patriots play foul? Would they see how much this scenario helps the Eagles and not even bother? With this proposition we would be in the best position to fix our team in ALL our offseason needs, and why help a team beat the team that could beat them? Ultimately in a scenario where we'd face off again, they'd be for the taking. We know Lito's strnghts and weakness, our offense would be fixed, and it would be a far more aggressive game with a healthy starting QB... The first team of the season to be within 3 of the Pats... and with Feely...
  • Not gonna happen, Pats have already signed 2 CB's
  • phillyboy36
but the 2 cbs arent as good as lito...
  • EaglesAllDay
fuck dis old bullshyt keep LITO.. we need him!! y get a great corner if u gonna trade your other great corner away?? WTF?? we straight @ #19
  • JSoupy023
Yep as I said earlier in my post on this article.. they should keep Lito and continue to explore other options IF the value is there. With Lito, Asante, and Sheldon(extremely underrated) we have one of the best defensive backfields in the NFL. That accompanied with our improved pass rush our defense is going to be straight up NASTY!! We'll most likely go OT/DL with our 1st.. but I'm hoping that we look at the best receiver still on the board when we pick.. personally I like Devin Thomas, but we'll see what happens.. Let's go BIRDS!!
